Server :: Custom - Advanced - DNS Settings - BIND ?

I'm having some problems properly configuring my DNS settings on my Zimbra Server.
I am running Zimbra collaboration suite on Ubuntu Server which is configured at 192.168.1.11 on DMZ. A BIND9 server is also running on the same machine (192.168.1.11). This machine serves as a mail server.
The following is how i have my DNS configured at mail.domain.com and i also have a shared hosting account at domain.com

Can i change to the following without any effects on my mail server?
I'm trying to create a user account for my children in Ubuntu 10.04
When creating their account, I have turned off the 'Connect to ethernet and wireless' option of the Advanced Settings.
However, when I log into their accounts, they still have full access to the internet through both the wireless and ethernet connections. Is this option for some other purpose?
Is there an alternate way to limit internet access for childrens' accounts in Ubuntu? (I'm used to MS Family Safety as a filter for internet access - is there an eqivalent for Ubuntu?)
I am trying to use the Device Actions under System Settings > Advanced to automatically copy image files from my CF-card from my camera. I home someone has a few minutes to help me. I am not sure how do identify my device.

there is no System > Preferences > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings .im runnig compiz with lynx and im trying to access the advanced desktop effects but i can find it.
Basically I got Windows 7 installed on my laptop and it's been doing nothing but slowing down more and more even though it isn't used for much more than basic internet use and I realized the hard drive was the cause, I did a bunch of stuff to try to fix it that I won't get into here, and in basic I'm to the point I'm just going to reinstall Windows 7, but this time with the help of Ubuntu's partitioning utilities.
I've already had the first ~5GB of the drive overwritten with zero's (thanks to DBAN) and now I'm booted on the Ubuntu LiveCD and trying to learn the command line stuff for formatting a drive. What I want to achieve is use the smallest amount of space possible for the MBR and that's also a point I don't quite understand. After some research on Google I read that the MBR is on one sector only the very first one, yet the first partition on a hard drive starts anywhere from 63 to 4096. Why are they so far apart? And can I force the partition to be moved closer? I know I know their is pretty much no purpose to this but it bugs me knowing that their might be 31MB (64 512byte sectors minus 1 (MBR) and 64 (beginning of partition)) just going to waste when I could put the NTFS MFT there. Then the second and last part I want to understand is I want to make the NTFS partition have a 512byte allocation unit size and have it lined with the 512sectors on the hard drive so it can have the max performance. Does anyone know how to do this stuff or could find better info than I have on the internet?
I've installed last Debian Stable with Gnome 3 environment and after added my enterprise account into the Gnome Online Accounts it apear into Evolution (but only after i've manually installed evolution-ews package) the problem is that i can't change any adevanced settings like "local synchronisation" into Evolution.
It's like Gnome Online Accounts revert back the settings each time i change it.
I am experiencing a similar problem as this thread but I do not use the fusion-icon.[URL].. Compiz will not save custom settings when compiz-settings-manager is used. It will save setting thru "Simple-settings-manager". In addition, some settings will not take effect immediately. Example: The "viewport switcher" in "Desktop-wall". Color changes will not take effect unless I change the "preview scale".Quote:

I recently bought one K3806 Vodafone Mobile Broadband usb stick. My pc is a Dell Latidude D620 notebook (Bios A0 running Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal). I downloaded (from Betavine) and installed without any error/warning the 3 packages ozerocdoff, usb-medeswitch and vodafone-mobile-connect. Then I plug the K3806 in one usb slot. this isn't so much slackware specific as it is general linux related, but using the default huge slackware kernel included with 13.1, acpi reports cpu temps of about 55 celsius i always like to run my own kernels though, and using the latest stable kernel, i have compiled one using what i believe is necessary for my hardware, and everything works as expected except that acpi reports my cpu temp as 80 celsius at idle, causing my fan to be running constantly
so without simply using the generic config included with slack in the newer kernel, what do you think might be causing the thermal issues? i used diff on the two configs and the output is over 5,000 lines, so thats not a huge help, and im really not even sure what to be looking for the cpu is an intel i7 720qm, so if anyone might know any specific settings for that processor type needed for acpi to interface with it properly that would be much obliged here is my config for potential review: [URL] also, if i disable acpi entirely, the fan operates as normal but i cannot get readings obviously
This is sort of mixed between hardware and software but it seemed more appropriate to me here. I'm building a server for very fast disk access. We have 8x32GB SSD SATA drives and 4x300GB SSD SATA MFT drives. The 300GB SSD drives are the slow kind of flash that writes slowly, and strangely is limited to 10K writes per sector. Long term data integrity isn't a big deal because it is backed up continuously but fast access to data is desired. Additionally the filesystem that contains this data deletes about 2.5 - 4 gigs of data per day, and adds about 2.5-4 gigs of data per day.
My plan is to create a hybrid drive of sorts, where the smaller 32G drives, lined up in RAID0, create a fast "buffer" disk, and on some increment what is in the buffer is written in bulk to the slower writing 300GB SSDs. I had two thoughts on how to achieve this, but ultimately I think that LVM snapshots are the best way to achieve this, put the read only "snapshot" on the big SSD drive and the other "differencing" part of the snapshot on the faster raid0. I'd much prefer a simpler solution where there is one block device to mount and all this is handled in the background.
I'm working hard with Nagios 3.0.4 on Debian Lenny. I have some questions. I can't find any information about these issues. I have hosts with a first_notification_delay of 60 minutes.And I have the whole day a Nagios controlling the same hosts. It's good to know if the same host is turned on during the night, but my work period begins at 10:00 am and it finish at 22:00 pm, I'm not a lucky boy I have configured a notification Period to 10:00 am to 22:00 pm.
Question 1: If a host goes into hard state CRITICAL, I know that Nagios waits 60 minutes to send a notification, but What happens if the host recovers before the first_notification_delay period ( for example, 30 min before)?Does it send the recovery notification or not?
Question 2: If a hard state happens at 21:59. Does Nagios wait until the 10:00 am of the day after to send the notification? If the host recovers at 9:00 am of the day after is the notification message cancelled?
I've been told to setup a first ubuntu sw development pc in my office. Our network domain server is Windows 2000 Advanced. Are there any issues or limitations that would prevent this marriage? Will it be apparent when I crack open ubuntu? Maybe a link to this procedure? Is joining a workgroup equally simple?
I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 7730ZG laptop with: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1) I have kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64-195.36.31-1.fc13.2.x86_64 installed from rpmfuison when I plug in the hdmi cable to the tv, my tv says the resoultion is at 720p, and I can not get any of the resolutions settings to look right on seperate x screen with the nvidia X server settings gui. my tv is a vizo 42inch. also another question is their a way to set the video card to output at 1080? this might be part of my problem?
I've been using Ubuntu on and off for the past few years, however since the release of Ubuntu 10.04 I have decided to dedicate my Dell laptop to Ubuntu. Everything is up and running smoothly with one exception: my screen resolution. My graphics card is an NVidia Geforce Go 7300, and as such I am using the "NVidia accelerated graphics driver (version current)." Compiz is working properly and the only issue I'm having with this setup is that my screen resolution is way too large for me to be able to see it. The screen is a 15.4 inch and the native resolution of 1680x1050 is exceptionally difficult to read. In the NVidia settings I am looking for a resolution of 1280x800, a resolution which I have used before on this laptop in a different operating system, however the closest I can come without stretching the image is 1440x900. I have searched both this forum and google religiously in search of an answer to this problem - not just today, but many times in the past; once for each version of Ubuntu that was released. Each attempt mutilating the xorg.conf file in a different manner, yet all to no avail. I have spent a woeful amount of my life trying to fix this issue, however I have succumb to failure and futility each time. I am willing to try a vast number of things that I have not already attempted in order to fix this, as well as a few tried methods that I may have executed incorrectly; as I would like to have a readable screen with which to use my laptop. I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.
I and setting up a home web server using Ubuntu 10.04 server (local only). I am currently using Webmin 1.53 to access it remotely all is going great very easy to use. Webmin - Check, ftps-fileZilla - Check, Apache -It Works BUT I cant seam to set up Apache as a named server using Bind DSN. Tried most of the help in the fourms and ..... I think my problems is in the master server selection, do i have to use [URL]... or can i just use myservername. I have tryed both with no luck. First time with the server addition.
I am configuring bind9 on fedora 9(sulphur).I have configured /etc/named.conf and created zone file in /var/named/I have started the service but when I am executing the command nslookup mydomain.com it is not able to resolve the name.Another problem I am facing when I do telnet localhost 53,I am able to connect.but when I do telnet myip 53 it does not connect.Seems to be a firewall problem but I ve disabled iptables selinux completely even I ve disabled dnsmasq but still not working.
I have a BIND server that I'm setting up with different views. There is another server out on the public Internet that currently handles all inquiries for this domain. I had installed the Yum packages, chroot, etc. and edited the config files by hand. When that didn't work, I erased the server and started over using Webmin to build everything for me. Same result. I'm trying to setup DNS server. But i'm getting this strange problem.normally nslookup and workin for other sites.problem only with my local setup. can't see what i'm doing wrong.i've had setted up DNS server before but had no problems.can't see any solution on google.
