Ubuntu Networking :: Recognize Intranet Host Server Name?

Feb 19, 2010

I am using Ubuntu on a Windows network.

One of the computers have apache server (working), it has 192.168.1.6 IP, and the name of the computer on the network is "servidor"

I can't access from ubuntu, if I type http://servidor or 192.168.1.6, it goes to [URL], but I can access shared folders, just the host intranet server I can't

I have vmware with windows xp, and I can access http://servidor from there, but not from Firefox in Ubuntu.

General :: Domain Not Available - Taken Over By Host Company

May 4, 2011

I have a domain I have never used for some years, the registrar put some adds in it, now I have hosted and configured this domain as a VPS and have started to put files in it but when I enter the domain in the browser, it still displays the adds index of the registrar although I have my own index file in /var/www/. I thought the domain was automatically "taken over" (I do not know the correct technical expression) by the hosting company when my hosting is accepted by the host after they install a bare distro. Obviously, my expectation was incorrect and there is something else I need to do.

Debian :: Intranet Server With LAMP - Mail Server ?

Aug 23, 2011

I am completely new to Debian . My aim is to get one of my machines to run this system as the intranet server including www server, mailing server, intranet server and LAMP at the same time on the small network. I have found some resources including how-to's how to install Debian as the normal operative OS not as the intranet server. I have also found this: [url].However that is applicable for the 'Mandrake' distribution (Mandriva). Now, I would like to ask few questions that will be applicable not only for me but for more users and if someone could answer them .

1.What installation source shall I choose, CD/DVD/Network Install CD?
2.I have found this: [url] ... troduction is that applicable?
3.How to install web server, mail server, LAMP and configure them, link above describes mail server installation not configuration itself.
4.How to configure intranet on Debian to work as the server serving the Windows clients (using Samba?)

If someone could propose a set of the sources or the instructions how to achieve all of the steps I would really appreciate that. Also, if sources will be given by the users I shall try to achieve what I want and write up 'how-to' for this problem. Therefore, me and other users would benefit from that.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setup A Server For The Company?

Jan 11, 2011

I need to set up a server for my company. There are only 4 people working here and we want a server that will allow us to run a cloud-like system. We want to be able to log in and use programs and have our files available from within the office and at home. I've used Citrix in the past and would like something similar, but free/open source if possible.I want an Ubuntu based server that gives the user a windows compatible environment. What I mean is it needs to be able to run windows software. What kind of hardware do I need? We want to run fairly resource hungry software like GIS and mapping software. I want to run Ubuntu server but what other software will I need?

Server :: VERY Simple CMS Needed For Intranet

Aug 17, 2011

I work for an organization with a few hundred employees. We need a very simple CMS for posting basic organizational documentation such has step-by-step instructions, as well as pdf and MS Office documents. We would prefer something that would organize content hierarchically, so we can structure the info into departments and functional areas. A MySQL or similar database is preferred, but flat file is okay as long as it does not limit content/structure too much.We would probably have about 15 to 20 content authors/editors. No workflow, authentication (except authors/editors) or secure content areas are required.

The only limitation would be that the content could only be accessed from a particular range of IPs. (I assume that would be set in Apache.)

OpenSUSE Network :: Install A Mail Server For The Company?

Aug 18, 2010

I was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.

Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)

Bit of an odd one, this. I've migrated a website from my old server to a new machine. Both servers run Ubuntu + Apache2. Both only serve a single site, apart from the default site.I've flipped the domain name to the new IP address. The trouble is that after moving the virtual host config over into sites-available, with the necessary link in sites-enabled, Apache attempts to serve from the default web root (/var/www) rather than the actual site content (in /var/www/technology). Server :: Rsync Files And Directories From A RedHat Host To A Windows Server 2003R2?

Jun 9, 2011

I'm trying to rsync files and directories from a RedHat linux host(v 4.5 & 4.7) to a Windows server 2003R2 Standard Edition with cygwin running. I'm executing the rsync command from the cygwin shell. The transfer involves rsync'ing approximately 1 TB of data from the linux server to the windows server. After about 280+GB of data transfer, the transfer just dies.

There seems to be no particular file or directory that the transfer stops at. I'm able to rsync GB's of data from other linux hosts to this cygwin server with no problem. Files and directories rsync fine. The network infrastructure is essentially the same regardless of the server being rsync'ed in that it is GB Ethernet running through Cisco GB switches. There appear to be no glitches or hiccups across the network path.

I've asked the folks at rsync.samba.org if they know of any problems or issues. Their response has been neutral in that if the version of rsync that cygwin has ported is within standards then there is no rsync reason this problem should happen.I've asked the cygwin support site if they know of any issues and they have yet to reply. So, my question is whether the version of rsync that is ported to cygwin is standard. If so, is there any reason cygwin & rsync keep failing like this?

I've asked the local rsync on linux guru's and they can't see any reason this should fail from a linux perspective. Apparently I am our company cygwin knowledge base by default.

Networking :: Bonded NICs At Host OS - Ubuntu Server - Bridged To Virtual OS - UServ - In VMware Server

Jul 19, 2009

Just something that struck me while working on our virtual servers today.

I have bonded 3 NICs at the host in Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS. They are using mode 0 for Round-robin. Point is to increase the speed/performance of all the servers, but mainly the fileserver. The fileserver is a virtual server running Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS on VMware Server 2.0.

1) I noticed the NIC in the slave OS reported link speed as 1000 and Im unable to change it as the NIC (virtual one) doesnt support it. Does this not really matter, as the NIC doesnt exist, and it will run at higher speeds anyway? Or do I have to remove the bond on the host, bridge all 3 interfaces from the host to the slave OS, and then make a bond in the slave OS?

2) While at it, does mode 0 only increase performance on data being sent from the host or does it also increase the available incoming bandwidth?

Server :: SUA On Win2k3R2 Server Rsync Pull From Linux Host

Jun 10, 2011

Has anyone had any experience on using SUA(Services for UNIX Applications) rsync to "pull" files down to the Win2k3R2 server from a linux rsync host?I was trying to use cygwin rsync before until I found out from cygwin that the cygwin port of rsync was "flakey" and would fail intermittently for no apparent reason. cygwin suggested I use SUA or SFU for rsync services.

I've looked for/ am looking for any experience using SUA rsync to copy files down from a linux rsync host to the Windows host via rsync on the Windows host. Also, if you have done this successfully, do you have any pointers/caveats you can share on how you got it working? What I am basically looking to do is copy files and subdirectories of files from a linux host using rsync to some static location on a Windows server on a scheduled basis so that I can backup the windows server to tape using Symantec's Backup Exec application.

I'm doing it this way to avoid deploying the Remote Agents for either linux or Windows on the target hosts. As an alternative I've seen reference to a product called DeltaCopy that uses a native Windows rsync port with the native linux port of rsync to do what I need also.I realize this is not a strictly linux question, but more of a hybrid as I'm moving data to and from Windows and linux hosts. So, if this is too Windows-y a question, please say so and I'll withdraw my question.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Company Sharepoint Via Vpn?

When I enter the URL into firefox, it tries for a few seconds then displays the "connection was reset" error page (see attached). I don't even get the normal pop-up dialog asking for my credentials! The URL is resolvable to an IP, and the server can be pinged successfully.
