General :: Domain Not Available - Taken Over By Host Company
May 4, 2011I have a domain I have never used for some years, the registrar put some adds in it, now I have hosted and configured this domain as a VPS and have started to put files in it but when I enter the domain in the browser, it still displays the adds index of the registrar although I have my own index file in /var/www/. I thought the domain was automatically "taken over" (I do not know the correct technical expression) by the hosting company when my hosting is accepted by the host after they install a bare distro. Obviously, my expectation was incorrect and there is something else I need to do.

Jul 11, 2011I created an archlinux vm guest using virtualbox on my windows desktop at work. I'm planning to use it for django development because there are no unix machines available to use as a workstation at work.
From the vm guest I can ping/ssh to other machines in the network, but not the other way around. It's like even though the guest machine has an ip address on the network and a hostname, neither is recognizable.

May 24, 2011I am planning to start a new business where I will get satellite internet as my backbone @ however I need have some questions since my company will be "fully open source" or " Linux-ish" first of all I would like to know which billing software is the best for the job , I came a cross "Optigold isp " and it seems awsome in its features especially the affiliate programs (eg. customer forward 5 more customer and get free month of internet access).
second , I would like to know how the network should be created @ because I will start in one city first and then I will extend to another cities basically in every city there will be one ground station to receive the satellite signal @ but I want to make the billing server and the router in one city only @ what router should I consider @ I dont have that much of knowldge to decide (gentoo , centos , ubuntu ....) even redhat is ok I wold just like to know if there are any pre-packaged solutions , I would like to know
Server :: "advertise" The Need For Beta Testers?
Jul 25, 2011I have a CentOS server set up and have created a service for it. I have looked all over the place, but am unable to find where I am "allowed" to post the need for beta testers. The service is for those who have servers of their own.
It would be soooo easy to just let it out, but I don't want to break the rules.

Feb 24, 2011I work for a large company & have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a PC to run a CNC machine. The problem is I cannot connect to the internet to complete the Ubuntu install.
The PC is Win Vista 32-bit & the internet is working fine on the Vista side. It is a wired network. I do have proxy info but can't find where that needs to be in Ubuntu.

Oct 5, 2010I am attempting to setup my home ubuntu-box (10.04, 64bit) to vpn into work (cisco).My attempt has been partially successful - connecting successfully to shared drives - but I can't access the internal company sharepoint site (using network-manager-vpnc). When I enter the URL into firefox, it tries for a few seconds then displays the "connection was reset" error page (see attached). I don't even get the normal pop-up dialog asking for my credentials! The URL is resolvable to an IP, and the server can be pinged successfully.
So, to make sure my home network wasn't to blame, I brought home a work laptop with a windows vpn client. This worked fine.I then went to work with Ubuntu-NR on a USB stick and booted up into ubuntu to make sure ubuntu wasn't to blame. This worked fine

Mar 8, 2011I am trying to access my company VPN using my Centos 5.5 laptop. I have the vpn client certificate issued by my company's IT dept. I am able to access the webmail using the same certificate which I installed in firefox. But I would like to know how to use this certificate to sign in to the VPN. Some of my colleagues use the Cisco VPN client v5.0.? software and the vpn client certificate to login. It works fine. But I would like to do the same with Centos.I tried connecting using vpnc. I converted the pcf file to conf using pcf2conf. Converted the certificate to .pem file. I replaced the /etc/vpnc/default.conf file with the pcf2conf converted file. Following is the converted conf file:

Aug 18, 2010I was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.
Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)

Basicaly on windows xp, or 7, I just plug this into any USB then it automatically installs a software, then program will popup that has "Connect" buttom, I click on that and i'm online, but in linux/ubuntu that auto installation is not coming.

Dec 3, 2010When I try to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco VPN client, I get a kernel panic. Please don't suggest I should Cisco's client, it only works with Kernels older than 2.6.24 (I have 2.6.35).
So I use vpnc. The error message is:

Dec 20, 2010I have the problem with Ubuntu to access the local site within my company network. This network has access to Internet, but the company's site does not have a public address. It is like "http:e-learning.local". I can access this site from any windows machine, but I can't access it from ubuntu. Only if I use IP address, I can access it. However, I have normal access to other sites on the Internet.

Feb 22, 2011I have a need to create a virtual directory in Apache for one of my company's internal websites. I have confirmed that I can create an alias for a local directory: Alias /vdir/ "/usr/share/somefolder/"
So I would get to this virtual directory by going to http://server.domain.com/vdir/. But when I attempt to point it to a shared folder on another server:
Alias /vdir/ "//servername/share/"
or
Alias /vdir/ "//servername/share/somefolder/"
Both return the 404 Not Found error, which I would expect if it is not connecting to the share. I've searched but can't seem to find the correct syntax and I know I am missing something basic. I have searched google and these forums but can't seem to locate the exact syntax. Are there other lines in the config file I need? Permissions should be no problem the shared is EVERYONE has access (for now).

Nov 29, 2010We've had reports of websites that don't work with Linux. Most could be used by setting a suitable UserAgent string but this one is extreme.
BSNL is India's national telecommunications utility and ISP. The same one that apparently injected HTTP packets to take newly authenticated users to one of their advertising sites as described in this LQ thread.
Now they have introduced a new site where ADSL customers can review their usage. A useful facility when the cost of exceeding monthly transfer is punitive and average incomes are low. But it is not useful for everyone. It is not useful for Linux users. The currently supported OS and browser combinations are "Internet Explorer on PC" and "Safari and FireFox on Mac".
I tried with Firefox, Opera and SeaMonkey on Linux. In Firefox I tried a variety of UserAgent strings but none of them got the logon page to work.
Technically speaking, how can this be happening? If Firefox works on Mac (IDK which versions of either) why would it not work on Linux? Where/how might the OS get involved in a browser rendering HTTP/HTTPS data?
Here's how the three browsers behaveFirefox with JavaScript turned off: the site displays "Scripting is used to manage data interactions between the Siebel server/Web Server and the User Interface. This requires JavaScript to be enabled in the web browser". Firefox with JavaScript enabled and SeaMonkey: both display the URL SWEHo=selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in but go into an infinite wait. Opera doesn't display anything.
