I'm the opensource nut at my company (which services MS networks) and I've been asked to set up an internal forum for our tech's to use to sever much like a knowledge base. I've never set up any forums before and was wondering what YOU guys recommend to use. I've briefly looked at Joomla and it seems nice and fairly easy to use.
View 1 RepliesI have a need to create a virtual directory in Apache for one of my company's internal websites. I have confirmed that I can create an alias for a local directory: Alias /vdir/ "/usr/share/somefolder/"
So I would get to this virtual directory by going to http://server.domain.com/vdir/. But when I attempt to point it to a shared folder on another server:
Alias /vdir/ "//servername/share/"
or
Alias /vdir/ "//servername/share/somefolder/"
Both return the 404 Not Found error, which I would expect if it is not connecting to the share. I've searched but can't seem to find the correct syntax and I know I am missing something basic. I have searched google and these forums but can't seem to locate the exact syntax. Are there other lines in the config file I need? Permissions should be no problem the shared is EVERYONE has access (for now).
I am configuring bind9 on fedora 9(sulphur).I have configured /etc/named.conf and created zone file in /var/named/I have started the service but when I am executing the command nslookup mydomain.com it is not able to resolve the name.Another problem I am facing when I do telnet localhost 53,I am able to connect.but when I do telnet myip 53 it does not connect.Seems to be a firewall problem but I ve disabled iptables selinux completely even I ve disabled dnsmasq but still not working.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am installing a cluster which is hidden from the rest of the world and there is no router either froma general login node. I would therefore require a local repository of the updates to CentOS5.4. When I checked I only found instructions for a full mirror. As I have no room and neither the human resources to setup and maintain a full-blown mirror, this is not a solution. However if I try to find updates for 5.4 to download in a repository-type of way I fail to find a solution. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI work for a large company & have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a PC to run a CNC machine. The problem is I cannot connect to the internet to complete the Ubuntu install.
The PC is Win Vista 32-bit & the internet is working fine on the Vista side. It is a wired network. I do have proxy info but can't find where that needs to be in Ubuntu.
I know Ubuntu is opensource and free to use and develope, but can one start a company and install Ubuntu Server on a server and sell it, as one complete package?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to setup my home ubuntu-box (10.04, 64bit) to vpn into work (cisco).My attempt has been partially successful - connecting successfully to shared drives - but I can't access the internal company sharepoint site (using network-manager-vpnc). When I enter the URL into firefox, it tries for a few seconds then displays the "connection was reset" error page (see attached). I don't even get the normal pop-up dialog asking for my credentials! The URL is resolvable to an IP, and the server can be pinged successfully.
So, to make sure my home network wasn't to blame, I brought home a work laptop with a windows vpn client. This worked fine.I then went to work with Ubuntu-NR on a USB stick and booted up into ubuntu to make sure ubuntu wasn't to blame. This worked fine
I need to set up a server for my company.There are only 4 people working here and we want a server that will allow us to run a cloud-like system. We want to be able to log in and use programs and have our files available from within the office and at home. I've used Citrix in the past and would like something similar, but free/open source if possible.I want an Ubuntu based server that gives the user a windows compatible environment. What I mean is it needs to be able to run windows software.What kind of hardware do I need? We want to run fairly resource hungry software like GIS and mapping software. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an internet from my mobile company, it isn't ethernet or a usb thats connected to a phone or anything. its basicaly a device that has my mobile card/chip inside and it connects to the internet, here's a picture of the device to give more information.

Basicaly on windows xp, or 7, I just plug this into any USB then it automatically installs a software, then program will popup that has "Connect" buttom, I click on that and i'm online, but in linux/ubuntu that auto installation is not coming.
When I try to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco VPN client, I get a kernel panic. Please don't suggest I should Cisco's client, it only works with Kernels older than 2.6.24 (I have 2.6.35).
So I use vpnc. The error message is:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a domain I have never used for some years, the registrar put some adds in it, now I have hosted and configured this domain as a VPS and have started to put files in it but when I enter the domain in the browser, it still displays the adds index of the registrar although I have my own index file in /var/www/. I thought the domain was automatically "taken over" (I do not know the correct technical expression) by the hosting company when my hosting is accepted by the host after they install a bare distro. Obviously, my expectation was incorrect and there is something else I need to do.

I tried since yesterday to get a VPN-connection but it seems that until now I'm not able to reach the Company-network. Our company use the pptp connection. I tried many different setup's but without sucess. I use Ubuntu 9.10 and installed the pptp-manager.

This network has access to Internet, but the company's site does not have a public address. It is like "http:e-learning.local". I can access this site from any windows machine, but I can't access it from ubuntu. Only if I use IP address, I can access it. However, I have normal access to other sites on the Internet.
Do you have any suggestion how to solve this problem?
I'm trying to setup an SMF forum on a server running Ubuntu Hardy. The problem is that the website on the server was built using Django. So considering that Django uses Python and SMF uses PHP, would it be possible for both of these to coexist on the same server? If so, how? If this can't be done, I'm more than willing to rebuild the website in PHP. If I were to do this, then what do I need to do to reconfigure Apache? As of right now it's using mod_wsgi, but I'm assuming I would need mod_php. How would I set this up?

I've used the forums infrequently, being more of a mailing list kind of guy. But I'm currently tinkering with an old laptop I got as a "gift" which doesn't have an ethernet port, And if I wanted to use my cable modems usb connection to apt-get etc for the installed Ubuntu Lucid, I had to disconnect my router. This pc isn't yet configured with my mail client etc... So I thought I'd try the forum again...I noticed that using: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3 Which has not been modified yet (except to add the scroogle search bar) I keep timing out.
IEI logged in to ubuntu forums, found an existing thread related to something I'd like to do with it.clicked on quote, and began composing a followup. When I was ready to preview the thread I got an error that said I wasn't logged in. and suggested I use some included form to try again. The form looked like it wanted my username and password but wouldn't let me enter the required info into the blank fields... I had to simply log in again with the login link at the top of the forum page, and use the back button (alt+leftarrow) several times until my reply was recovered so that I could preview, fix typos & submit..I searched the forum for "forum login timeout" and found one relevant post which appeared to say the only reason it's OP had a problem was do to making changes to his copy of firefox but that it was fixed ([solved]) without saying how he fixed it. There was a reference to using about:config which is beyond my skill level...How does one keep the from login session from timing out while one's browser still has an open window to what was a logged in forum page anyway
