I installed exim4 package on my debian server as MTA. Now I want to send mail with this by SMTP. But when I connect to this via telnet, it returns this banner:

And when I try to execute a command like EHLO, it says:

Here is the senario...
2 round robin dns servers
x.x.x.1 mydomain.com (hostname)
x.x.x.2 mydomain.com (hostname)
My problem is that when I try and send an email that is part of the domain, it ends up trying to deliver it locally. I realize it is supposed to, but I don't want that for non-users of the server.
I want to be able to deliver certain emails []@mydomain.com remotely. (info@mydomain.com)
exim4 setup "internet site; mail is sent and received directly using SMTP". This works well as long as it is not an email from mydomain.com.
Is there a way to have exim check the users first and then deliver based on local user or not?
Next question. Is having the domain name as the hostname the best way to setup a round robin? (web server)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dedicated server running CentOS 5, Plesk 9.2.2, SMTP Postfix and Courier-IMAP.The issue I have is that on all domains on the server receiving email works fine however sending email never seems to work. This is from email programs, my phone, webmail and PHP. None of them seem to be able to send email. If it is of worth Spam Assassin is running however I don't feel it is causing any problems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.04 with working wlan. I had to restart router & wap. It doesn't seem to ever retry to connect. I know my router & wap are good, I have wireless working on other laptop (running Puppy) I had to go into 'edit connections' in drop down and use 'wireless' tab then edit 'wireless connection 1' and hit 'apply' is there a better way to do this? also, no connections show up with command 'iwconfig' edit: with ifconfig, eth1 si showing data my ip address and packets sent & rcvd. I think I'll try do duplicate this event and use 'ifconfig eth1 down' and then up again to see if it reconnects.

Everything was fine at first, but now, instead of the partition label I've chosen, I see this: 120 GB Unrecognized Everything works fine, I just don't understand what this is all about.
EDIT 1:I don't understand something else too, which might be related. First time, I didn't need to enter root password for things like Synaptic and so, is this somehow related? (Now I'm being asked for, like normal way)

This started happening about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed our backups weren't running anymore. whenever i try to run ANY type of scp command I get the following error: warning: Unrecognized configuration parameter permitlocalcommand ssh: FATAL: Illegal -o parameter "PermitLocalCommand no" lost connection
I checked the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file and there was a command PermitLocalCommand commented out, but for testing I even totally removed that line and then in scp forced the use of that file via scp -F /etc/ssh/ssh_config ......
and I still get the same error. This command is nowhere is any of my ssh config files so im at a loss here on how im supposed to fix this!! I even checked my home directory for maybe a ssh config file that might be overridding the system config but nothing.

Having an odd problem running a mysqldump via crontab. I have the script running on other servers and they work fine, so not sure how to actually troubleshoot, but the script looks like the following;
If I run it as a cronjob as root, it finishes in a second and a 20k file is there. If I run it from the command line as root it does the backup (takes a few minutes) but does complete the backup and can be unzipped and read successfully.

I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server
The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones
I set up an exim4 server successfully and was able to send/receive mail! I fired off a couple emails to my friend and never got a response. I have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.
I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
I'd like to use the mail command to send e-mails with some log files. Is there a way to configure the SMTP server from cli or to write the IP address into a file?

On my opensuse 11.4 box (although I assume the version is irrelevant), I'm trying to figure out how to do something with the mail command. We have multiple smtp relay servers and sometimes I have to test to verify that mail is bouncing off of them successfully. On my laptop, in my main.cf file for postfix, I've got the relay server listed. But to test multiple servers, I have to change the main.cf, restart postfix, send message, and then repeat for each test.
I'm trying to figure out a way to specify the smtp relay on the command line. I've been playing with the -S option which is supposed to allow variables and one of the variables in the man page is 'smtp'. I've tried several different syntaxes but nothing seems to work.
The closest I've come is:
mail -S smtp 10.1.0.63 -s "test" user@email.com < main.cf
That syntax doesn't give me an error but it still routes the message off the smtp server listed in main.cf which is not 10.1.0.63.

While im looking at my smtp server log at /var/log/maillog, im having these two errors for which im unable to find the reason.
1)Could not open inline file /etc/MailScanner/reports/en/inline.sig.txt, No such file or directory
2)did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
