View 5 RepliesI have a server that runs on a static IP address with many hosting accounts. I am using the IspCP to manage the different sites. When a mail is sent, the headers include the box's own domain name: [URL]. Now [URL] is no longer active, so if an email from another account: [URL] sends mail, there is possibility that this mail is rejected by the receiver, if the receiver system does rDNS.
The receiving server will check the headers smtp sent from [URL] and come up as a fake, because [URL] is no longer registered. I wonder if there is a way to make the smtp headers reflect only the domain name that sent the mail. Then if joe sends mail, the server should replace[URL] with [URL]. If this is possible, then users that send mail will not get bounced because the rDNS lookup will map [URL] to the ip and the mail will be accepted.
In order to have greater control over the emails sent out the company I imagined the following scenario.ScenarioDescribing in words what I need.ser sends an email to user@hotmail.com for example, using the smtp of my isp (is the internet).Before the email is sent, the firewall checks if the recipient is blocked transparent, if you are locked out rejects the email.I searched several forums and mailing lists, but did not find scenarios similar to mine.Where found situations in which the mail servers were internally in the company, which is not my case.

1. Want to setup 2 postfix SMTP Server with 1 POP3 Server.
2. Server1 will host POP3 & SMTP services for domain "metallica.one".(IP: 1.1.1.1, MX: mx1.metallica.one)
3. Server2 will host only SMTP services for domain "metallica.one" (IP: 1.1.1.2, MX: mx2.metallica.one)
4. Server1 & Server2 will be used as load balancing for sending mails. (either manual settings in email client, or auto-loadbalancing is still preferred).
5. Mail received for domain metallica.one on Server2 should be pushed/forwarded/relayed to Server1 where POP3 services are running.
6. Outgoing mails for other domains from Server2 should be sent directly to the other-domain-recipients without relaying to Server1.
I have a server "test1" in domain [URL]. I installed sendmail on it. I have another mail server "mailsrv" installed in [URL] which is my primary mail server and contains all accounts and mailboxes. Now when I send email to [URL] from [URL] it sends successfully. But when I try to mail to user1@abc.com it tries to search user1 in [URL] but I want it to forward this mail to mailsrv.abc.com over SMTP port. Delivery will then be taken care by [URL]

Has thunderbird (recent version) have a "TEST" function ? basically, i'm trying to send messages, with 20+ accounts (different emails, but one domain / SMTP server). one account works fine - the other one doesn't. i go to my "outgoing server" & everything is fine - usernames / ports etc..) The settings for each account do show the right outgoing server. If i 'send later' & close down thunderbird, 7 re-open - it asks me for my password again (which it saves), & then it is able to send the email.
QUESTION :- is there a TESt option that will test each & EVERY account in one timeslot ? Ie, will go through each email address - sends an email to itself (the same address), & sends it. it will then try the server again, to see if the email was received. & then give me a single report, of all the incorrect settings.(I've tried this 1 email account half a dozen times tonight & i dont know *WHY* its not sending on the 1st go.. )

The emails usually come from legit places, usually hotels. Does this mean they are sending bad emails, i.e. they have a Trojan/worm, or is this a live hack attempt?. I believe the later, as I might get upto 3 domains from the one ip address, which is always, NOT associated with the listed domain. Not causing me any issues, except I have been getting a lot recently.

I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
I met some problems when I set my new smtp server to the msmtprc file. I work in the HKUST and the mail asks for TLS authentication, I do not know where the problem is, but when I test the smtp server like this

I've a webserver at 10.10.0.55. Above in the hierarchy are managed network cisco switch / router and ASA firewall (the usual stuff). I also have a mail server at 10.10.0.200. I was told by the network admin that he can't forward port 80 to webserver and port 25 to mail server. Basically he said that it's a one-to-one (external.ip-to-internal.ip) mapping and all traffic, no matter what port it's destined for must go to 10.10.0.55. So, I turn to the wonder that linux is. The webserver is running Centos 5.4. Currently, all packets on port 25 are coming to the webserver. I want to forward all these packets to the email server. Note: the webserver only has one interface: eth0. I turned to web for help and did this in iptables:

First of all, since there is no service/daemon listening on port 25 on the webserver, is it even going to work? Isn't the webserver simply going to discard packets on port 25? I am assuming that packets go through the iptables first, and so iptables should route the packets to the email server, where there is postfix listening on port 25. Am i right? Also, as you can see in the code above, all packets coming on port 25 on the webserver should be logged. But they aren't. In order to troubleshoot, I'd like to at least know that packets are coming into the iptables. But since it's not logging, I can't find out what's wrong.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a CentOS box as a NAT firewall that needs to also send mail. It needs to send this mail using an outside provider's SMTP. The provider requires SMTP over SSL. None of the machines inside the NAT will ever send mail except via the provider's SMTP nor will they ever receive mail except to local clients via the provider's IMAP servers.
So for the example the machine is TESTMACHINE. There is one internet facing ethernet port connected to a DSL modem via pppoe.
The SMTP it needs to send mail via is mail.host.net which requires SMTP over SSL (port 465) and username/password authentication.
The sendmail documentation is quite confusing on how to get this simple setup operating, so an example showing the appropriate changes to sendmail.mc and other require config files.

While im looking at my smtp server log at /var/log/maillog, im having these two errors for which im unable to find the reason.
1)Could not open inline file /etc/MailScanner/reports/en/inline.sig.txt, No such file or directory
2)did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

I don't know why it doesn't receive response after HELO. In fact if I debug my mail server with gdb, I can see it sends a 250 response code. Moreover, I've tested my server both with traditional mail clients, as Thunderbird, and through telnet session and it works very well.
we have qmail server installed on rhl 9. it was working perfectly fine for last 1 year. suddenly it stopped accepting emails from internet. when i telnet on port 25 it takes about 90 secs to show the SMTP ready state.I have tried many things
1. stopped Reverse DNS Lookup by adding -H to qmail-smtpd/run file
2. stopped spamassing and AV
3. reverified DNS server settings in resolv.conf
4. dig is resolving dns query properly.
i also observed that when i do telnet to
telnet localhost 25 response is very quick
but when i do
telnet local_server_IP_address 25
it takes aprx 90 secs to show me SMTP ready messege.
can someone shed some light on this as what should i do next to rectify this problem..

But I've some server which use linux too. All are on CentOS 5.5.I would like to configure these servers to use my internal mail server for send email, and not configure sendmail or postfix on each server.
What I've to do exactly on each servers to use it? I search on the web but I don't find something very explicit

The problem is that my ISP doesn't allow usage of port 25 (as I understand a lot of ISP's don't).I have PHP scripts hat use the mail() function to send e-mails through the Sendmail application.So, my question is: How can I relay messages sent to sendmail to an external SMTP server (like Google Mail, for example)? Would this be easier to do in the PHP configuration, or on the Sendmail side of things?I've used PEAR extensions in PHP to achieve this before, but scripts downloaded from the Internet generally just use the basic mail() function, and it would be a real pain to modify them all.

Postfix works locally to send mail. E.g. when I telnet locally to port 25. However, when I try to telnet from outside, the connection closes almost immediately. I run my own mail server. There's only one part that isn't working and I can't seem to figure out why: sending mail from a client - in this case, Thunderbird.
I can send mail off-server just fine if I log in via telnet. I can receive email just fine with Thunderbird.

I have been having trouble figuring this out. I have a machine running CentOS 5 and I want to setup an SMTP server behind a router on a home broadband connection. I've read many guides but nothing too specific as to what I need to do. I want to use either sendmail or postfix, but I don't know if I should purchase an SMTP relay. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great. I also have bought a domain name that I want to use, but I just cant put all these pieces together as of right now.

Currently I have exim bound to 127.1:25 so if I can send mail from my laptop using ssh -L2525:localhost:25 wolever.net... But I'd like exim (or some other SMTP server) to bind to, eg, 0.0.0.0:2525 and accept authenticated SMTP connections.
I have been using evolution to send/receive email from my account with 123-reg with no problems. My home ISP is aol. I am currently on vacation in France and using orange.fr as my ISP. I can still receive email from 123-reg but when I try to send, get the error message "Could not connect to smtp.123-reg.co.uk: No route to host" 123-reg help seem to be either clueless or not bothered. I've tried altering settings in evolution preferences, but nothing seems to work. Currently set to "server requires authentication"
