View 1 Replies View RelatedOpenSUSE version: 11.2 *and* 10.0 I am unable to send email. It appears I am being blocked by my ISP [URL]... A Wireshark trace shows ICMP type 3 Code 13 - "Administratively filtered". It's important to note that I don't know exactly when the problem started, because I seldom use my ISP email account, I use Yahoo web mail due to the "throwaway" nature if I get hit with spam. I only discovered the problem when testing the functionality of 11.2. I suspect the problem started several months ago: I restored openSUSE 10.0 and the problem exists there too. I wish I'd sent that last email via 10.0 before the upgrade.
The weird thing is that using Windows 2000 box I can get a successful connection using telnet (Telnet also fails on the openSUSE box.) It appears to me there is something in the Linux TCP stack that Teksavvy doesn't like. I am on dial up and I pointed this out to Teksavvy tech support, as I am probably the only person left on dialup and the reason no one else has reported the problem
I have a server set up with a VPN (openVPN with DynDNS). My emails are located there and I can check them from home, office, where ever really, with different computers, no problem.However, due to restrictions of some ISPs I would have to change the SMTP server used, depending on where I am with my laptop.
Now, I thought about using the VPN to also tunnel the SMTP traffic through that. But how am I doing that?So far, when I'm connected to via VPN I simply have a local (from the server point of view) IP address to connect to my IMAP server. But how can I route the SMTP port 25 through the VPN?Is that possible to do, also in a way that I don't have to change anything depending on where I am, as in within the network of the server or outside? Since when I'm within the network the VPN obviously isn't connecting..

For security reasons the process does not have root privilege and for some reason I cannot use ioctl() either. I tried to set the capabilities of the process to NET_ADMIN and SYS_ADMIN but the route command still failed due to insufficient permissions.
What are the capabilities that I need to set for route to be successful?

The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved from a Linux environment from one company to another and one annoying difference came out:When I used to run an application in a terminal (no GUI), the transcript lines were presented one the window - when the window was full then the scrolling of the lines would continue only if one hit the space bar to proceed (of course waiting to user input did not stop the run).
In the new environment the behavior is different - transcript lines keep going on and on so I need to scroll up - and moreover each page-up command is cancelled by the new lines appearing.perhaps this is also reproduce with other Linux commands , say "find" or "ls".
I do not understand this command well. Yes, I have looked at man route and that whilst that gives lots of information about the switches I cannot see it in context. I have a server with two nics. One to the Internet (eth1) and one to the lan (eth0). I use pppoe and when it is running I get a virtual adapter appear in ifconfic called ppp0 which shows the public DNS and ISP session IP. I entered the command:
route add -host (gateway IP) dev eth1
and get the Internet to appear on the server. However, I do not get the Internet to the clients. I have turned off the firewall to be sure that this is not the problem.
I'd like to use the mail command to send e-mails with some log files. Is there a way to configure the SMTP server from cli or to write the IP address into a file?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my opensuse 11.4 box (although I assume the version is irrelevant), I'm trying to figure out how to do something with the mail command. We have multiple smtp relay servers and sometimes I have to test to verify that mail is bouncing off of them successfully. On my laptop, in my main.cf file for postfix, I've got the relay server listed. But to test multiple servers, I have to change the main.cf, restart postfix, send message, and then repeat for each test.
I'm trying to figure out a way to specify the smtp relay on the command line. I've been playing with the -S option which is supposed to allow variables and one of the variables in the man page is 'smtp'. I've tried several different syntaxes but nothing seems to work.
The closest I've come is:
mail -S smtp 10.1.0.63 -s "test" user@email.com < main.cf
That syntax doesn't give me an error but it still routes the message off the smtp server listed in main.cf which is not 10.1.0.63.
I installed exim4 package on my debian server as MTA. Now I want to send mail with this by SMTP. But when I connect to this via telnet, it returns this banner:

I have 3 network interfaces on my Linux Router :

What I'd like to do is to route all TCP packets coming from eth2 to tun0 where a VPN client is running on 10.0.0.2. If I delete all default routes and if I add a new route to tun0 like :

Everything is fine, and everyone on eth2 can reach the Internet using the VPN access. Now the problem is that my VPN client does not allow any other protocols other than TCP. And I also want to allow VPN access only to eth2, no other LAN nor the router itself. use iptables to filter any TCP packets and mark them, so they can be sent to tun0, while any other packets can reach the Internet via br0 (192.168.0.1). I found on the Internet that we can mark packets before they get routed. Using the following commands :

First of all, --dport 80 never work... :/ I wanted to filter TCP 80 packets coming from eth2, but none of them seems to be HTTP packets... oO (very strange...). Nevermind, I decided to forget about the --dport option. I use the "iptables -L -v -t mangle" command to see how many packets are marked, and it is working fine, all TCP packets coming from eth2 are marked. Now the problem is that none of them are routed to tun0 they are all respecting the "route -n" rules... and not the "table 300" rule I have created.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving trouble getting my Netgear WNA1000 working thru wireless router. Have tried lots of suggestions from other threads to no avail. Someone suggested that th routing table isn't set correctly, so have been trying to use the follwing to make the proper entry in the routing table: sudo route add -net 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev wlan0
Result: error message stating with:
"route: netmask does not match route address"
followed by "Usage" instructions which tell me to do what I just did. Any ideas on how I can populate my routing table with correct entry for my wireless card? Not to complicate matters, but I temporarily turned off encryption on my router to eliminate that as a possibility until I get connected. So maybe it'still trying to connect via encrypted mode - do I need to turn off encryption on my (client) end?

I usually update all these machines at the same time using zypper so in order to remove additional confusion how can I disable this? I've read in the forum how to stop it from starting up by going to Control Center | Startup Applications and unchecking Packagekit Update Applet. Is there a way to do this using the command line? I'm sure there is, after all this is Linux, I just need to know how. Reason being is I'll be ssh'ing into these machines to disable the update applet and don't want to touch all the machines and click my way to stop it at startup. Figure there has to be an easier way

I have told samba what folder to share and what user to have access to it. As well I have looked at the config file to make sure what was in the gui printed into the config file. However I cannot start, stop, restart samba via command line. I will try config package and hopefully that drops down everything,

Now it is installed, but has no script file or the script file is not in the init.d folder like it should be still trying to figure I have come to the conclusion that the daemons are not installed and am trying to figure out what those script files look like or a way to import them off a ftp, however no luck with google so far. But the scripts files don't exist on my box. how do you install samba daemons when it says samba is already installed.
