I have a dedicated server running CentOS 5, Plesk 9.2.2, SMTP Postfix and Courier-IMAP.The issue I have is that on all domains on the server receiving email works fine however sending email never seems to work. This is from email programs, my phone, webmail and PHP. None of them seem to be able to send email. If it is of worth Spam Assassin is running however I don't feel it is causing any problems.
View 7 RepliesI've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.
Trying to migrate our news server to a new instance on centos5 and having issues with the makehistory utility. It errors out and then just creates all null values for the overview database. Here is the output:

I've been trying to make install apache 2.1.8 and php 5.2.3 and work on them. After updating and installing some dependence files, apache and php could both be installed.
Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:

View 5 Replies View Relatedi want to set up an email server both to receive and send emails. I also am on a dynamic ip scheme with my ISP. I do have a dynamic dns account with no-ip.org the Questions are:
-will somebody be able to send emails to me at the <user>@<dyndns_name>.no-ip.org email address?
-will I be able to send emails from the <user>@<dyndns_name>.no-ip.org email address?
I know i'll be able to login to accounts like gmail and yahoo and download emails from there.. but even that i don't know - even macroscopically how its done:
-is it the sendmail deamon that accepts the mail from <me>@gmail.com, <me>@yahoo.com, <me>@<dyndns_name>.no-ip.org?
-is it the sendmail deamon that does the sending of email (as well)?
-can it push emails that I want to send as <me>@gmail.com to the gmail smtp servers (and they in turn will push my email even further)?
-can it push emails from <me>@<dyndns_name>.no-ip.org to receipients?
and finally,
-WILL receiving pop/imap servers allow incoming email from my server? or due to the dynamic ip they'll assume I'm a spam server?

In Red hat i used the nail command to send mail using an external smtp server without sendmail or other mail services active. My question is: In Centos 5 nail is not present but is present mailx in version 8.1.1-44.2.2
Is there a way to set mailx to use external smtp server ? because in many forum i get the string mailx -S smtp= etc.etc. but in my case the -S parameter generate mailx: invalid option -- S antoher question is there a an official repository to download rpm nail for centos ?
I'd like to have anything that tries to send mail locally on my machine (including crontab reports for instance) to be handled by my ISP's smtp server instead of my machine acting like it's own SMTP server. I've spent around 15 hours trying to figure out how to do this and I keep either getting into things that I don't understand, or hitting brick walls (for instance, I found nullmailer, but after installing it, it seemed like it would only work on Unix) Is there an application like nullmailer which I can use as my MTA to forward all internal mail to a different SMTP?

I am trying to see if a can get a centos 5.5 server setup as an smtp store and forward spamfilter by following the Centos Wiki and the freespamfilter.org guide by Mr88Talent at [url], which relates to another linux distro.
The spamfilter is essentially working! however, i have one issue with DCC.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a CentOS box as a NAT firewall that needs to also send mail. It needs to send this mail using an outside provider's SMTP. The provider requires SMTP over SSL. None of the machines inside the NAT will ever send mail except via the provider's SMTP nor will they ever receive mail except to local clients via the provider's IMAP servers.
So for the example the machine is TESTMACHINE. There is one internet facing ethernet port connected to a DSL modem via pppoe.
The SMTP it needs to send mail via is mail.host.net which requires SMTP over SSL (port 465) and username/password authentication.
The sendmail documentation is quite confusing on how to get this simple setup operating, so an example showing the appropriate changes to sendmail.mc and other require config files.
Having my Diploma Final Project on setting up a virtual mail server within Local Area Network (LAN) only. I had follow this how-to [URL] and complete up to squirrealmail web mail. I added two new user to try on sending and receiving mail. It works. I run CentOS on VMplayer. View 2 Replies View Relatedso i set out to change the default smtp port the server uses because my ISP blocks port 25 and i need the email to work in outlook. this morning i could receive email, but not send it. so i did some research and thought that i needed to edit the master.cf file in /etc/postfix/ by commenting out this line: smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -oand replace it with587 inet n - n - - smtpd (587 being the port i want to use)somewhere along the lines postfix server stopped running and now i cannot get it to start.if i try using SSH it crashes immediately and if i restart it in simple control panel nothing happens

Update was successful (I didn't see any errors). Then I rebooted pc and found out that my web is extreamly slow. In httpd logs I found: php -> file_get_contents [URL] always dies (timeout error, but somedomain.com is fine, I can telnet it easy on 80) I was wounder if it's update problem and tried yum:

i export the proxy but still not working,
1) Installed Cent os 5.4 in my system (name it as "guest os").
2) Downloaded the full kernel source, and patched the vanilla kernel to export symbol table (2 line change) [URL] (Yes I know that kernel should not be touched, if touched you should not seek help here . but I felt I didnt do any big change in kernel there). Besides we unset the config_smp & config_preempt parameter to make the kernel as not SMP and not preemptive .
3) Then compiled and booted with the new kernel 2.6.18, everything went fine . Now my gust os box is loading fine and I dont have any issue .
So now I need to install this above machine as guest OS in one more XEN machine cent os 5.4 (name it as "xen os").
So we created the image out of the above box "guest os" and added it as VM in xen os . But while booting it always hangs under some error like "/usb device sort of thing" (I dont have the screen where it hangs, but I do have the equivalent xen log from XEN OS linked to [URL] .
1) what the error is, and what need to be changed in my guest os build .
2) In general I am new to this VM and XEN installation, to be frank I am completely zero . Does changing the native os 5.4 to guest os need any change in kernel or something.
3) Does this case possible, install plain cent os in xen machine. After then patch the kernel in VM and boot with that . I guess it should not be possible ...
4) If possible guide me to some documentation where I can learn few basics over this.
I am trying to monitor a Centos 5.3 box using SNMP and I am having a lot of trouble getting the data that i need from it. Everytime I try to get information from the UCD-SNMP MIB it returns "End of MIB". It is my understanding that UCD-SNMP is a standard package when Net-SNMP is installed and should always be there. Then why can't I access it? I have tried removing the reinstalling Net-SNMP, but that hasn't worked. My server is update date on all it's patches as well. It is quite old hardware, but I don't believe that should affect SNMP from being gathered. Iptables is down, and I cant' even get it from the local machine.

I am trying to run though the qmailrocks setup on a centos 5.5 and I am running into an issue when trying to telnet to port 25:
telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
Everything else seems to be working (telnet to 110), and I turned off the firewall entirely, but I still cannot telnet to port 25. I also get a blank error within squirrelmail when attempting to send mail out (ERROR:Message not sent. Server replied: ). I apologize for not going directly to the qmailrocks forum, but they are currently closed down (due to lack of funds). I also am a newbie, so I apologize for the lack of needed information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what information you would need.
I'm quite new to Linux and totally new to CentOS. I need it to isntall a Lotus Domino Server, and for security reason i'd like to install the Acronis Linux agent to backup this server with my Win Acronis enterprise server. I have installed a new CentOS server 5.4 on a Vmware virtual machine, then installed the Acronis Linux agent following the instruction here [URL].. The agent seems to work because with the command "/etc/init.d/acronis_agent status" the sistem respond with "Acronis Agenti is running"
But i can't connect to the agent from the server console!
I have disabled the firewall to avoid any connectin problem...
Does anybody use acronis with CentOS?
Is there a reason why the selinux module for nagios just doesn't work? I'm running CentOS release 5.4 (Final) and did "yum install nagios" and now have nagios-3.2.0-1.el5.rf installed. I'm having to create policy after policy after policy, and still haven't reached the end of the rainbow.
I suppose after I run out of selinux violations, I could figure out how to combine all of these modules and post the result, but it seems really, really weird to think that I'm the only person who has ever installed nagios from the repo with SELinux enabled.
system-config-samba doean't work from terminal neither it is shown in graphical mode, i cannot see system > administration > servers. Server is missing.
