Could it be the IMAP file is corrupt?I have set up mail server on Centos to receive via dovecot.One of my user accounts (A single account out of a hundred)cannot receive their mails.
View 3 RepliesIt is the strangest thing. I can not receive emails on this server after it has been up for an hour. I noticed that everytime and email is received that a sshd opens but never closes. Causeing a memory issue that I dont know how to fix. Also the mailq grows and grows. Mostly with email stating the recipient and send are both [URL].. also postmaster@mail.jmchd.com shows mail system configuration error. I have to restart the server every 30 minutes so users can get and send emails. This is horrible because for every 5 minutes out of the hour emails are bouncing.i have looked through them but I know not what I am looking at.
PS. I was thrown into the position and have limited knowledge. I am used to a GUI.
I'm wondering why we can't received email when our primary DNS went down. We have slave DNS but don't know why we can't receive emails. Internet is working properly. The mail file in /etc/configuration on slave dns are there & the zone file is added. I edited the mail zone file to see if it works & restarted the named service. But still we can't received emails using the slave DNS. Do I need to reboot the server?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a domain and I have setup what I believe are correct dns records from the domain companies control panel. I have the domain pointing to my server and that's working fine. I also have an MX record for my domain. Now, I can send emails from my email account just fine however I cannot receive any emails coming in to my account. Heres an example:

I have just installed iRedMail-0.6.1 to my Ubuntu 10.04 powered server. I can receive emails from mail accounts on my server and I cal also send emails from those accounts to other servers like gmail.The problem is I cannot receive emails from gmail, hotmail or any other server.

1. Operating system installed is Debian ver. 5.0.3
2. Roundcube is installed as a webmail(if its right for me to say that)
3. The server is hosted right here at our offices
4.The server uses relay system to send mail i.e. relays all our mails to our ISP
That all i can say about the configurations becuase thats as much as i understand it.The problem now is that we are not able to send or recieve emails from both internal and external.I tried to send mail to a collegue in the office who is on our local LAN,Roundcube says sent successfully but the person does not recieve the mail.i tried to send to my yahoo address but nothing.I dont know where these mails have been trapped.
I've got a request from one of my company's subsidiaries to block all incoming and outgoing mail for a group of users. I've read up some guides on access.db and I know how to do that, but now they want to allow these users to receive emails from a few select domains, and block the rest. To summarize:
1) Block all incoming and outgoing email to users in team A, except mail from [URL]
2) All other users can receive and send mail from/to any domain.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just set up a new email server on Debian Lenny. It's Postfix for MTA and Dovecot for IMAPS server. I use Dovecot for authentication. I have two UNIX users on the system (except root), one was added before the installation of Postfix and Dovecot. I'm not doing any virtual things, just plain UNIX users and one domain on a dynamic IP. The first user, "webadmin" can send and receive emails just fine through the server from my mail client.
Now I just added a new user, "scarleo", and it turns out I'm unable to send and receive emails with this account. If I log in (SSH) with scarleo I can use bash mail to send emails, works fine. scarleo can also receive emails from webadmin and can connect to Dovecot to read emails. However scarleo cannot send or receive to or from anyone outside the server from my mail client. I have restarted both Postfix and Dovecot after adding the user. Do I have to do something else to make this account work like webadmin's?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set up both Postfix and Dovecot on my server. I can currently send mail via Outlook to Postfix over Port 587 (rather than Port 25), and receive mail from Dovecot on Outlook. However, the only mails I am able to receive are those originated from within the server itself. If I attempt to send an e-mail to the address my Outlook listens to, the mail will never reach my Outlook. In other words, no one on the Internet is able to send mail to me.
Can someone tell me:
1) If setting Postfix to listen over Port 587 for my Outlook to send mail outwards is preventing me to have Postfix to listen to mails coming from the Internet? Would I have to turn on both Ports 25 and 587 in /etc/postfix/master.cf?
2) I have configured my Postfix to use saslauthd by authenticating those who are on /etc/passwd. This means I can enter my Linux account details into Outlook in order to connect and download messages. However, does this mean other MTA servers on the Internet who doesn't know my account details are unable to authenticate with my Postfix server and send mails to it?
I've setup my server by following a ton of goods, and it seems to work ok, but I need to start using my server for email in order to receive orders placed via my website. I've followed this guide - [URL] I followed the steps above, and tested the mail server via telnet, and all seemed to be ok. I tried sending an email via Squirrelmail, from cs@thinclientwarehouse.co.uk TO my working email simon@c1systems.co.uk, but the server returned with the following message:

Seems quite a lot out there are finding it simple enough getting Thunderbird/Davmail to work, yet I've been at it for days now and still no luck. I've finally given up altogether with Evolution last week, as it seems from weeks of reading and trying, there just isn't a solution for it to work with Exchange Server mail. Yes I tried brutus and its web sites are down so to get additions such as Brutus Keyring is impossible. (its all a long story for another day)Evolution is now uninstalled and in the bin.So now Im into the 5th day trying with Davmail and Thunderbird to get emails from my company mail exchange server.I am sure Im going to have better luck with Thunderbird from what Ive read so far, but it still eludes me how to set it up with Devmail and the information Ive found so far is not very clear. I am sure I am just missing the most simplest step somewhere along the line.
Can someone please post a detailed instruction on how to configure both Thunderbird and Devmail to work together and also how to test if Davmails is working?I can easily access my company emails via OWA with URl... from my home internet, so no issue there.From the efforts of trying to get Evol to work where it came up with the error. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
mydomain.tld3600INMX0 mail.mydomain.tld
mail.mydomain.tld 3600INAmyNumericalIp
So now my system is receiving MX content but i dont know what to do.

I'm trying to set up my postfix server to relay mail (via a php cms) using Gmail's smtp on my account, but for some reason, Gmail returns an error code that StartTLS must be sent first, my postfix main.cnf file can be found at pastebin, because of this forum's text length I cannot paste my postfix main.cnf file as can be seen I have everything set and configured for Gmail, but postfix (for some unseen reason) can not send StartTLS. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
I am working for the first time on a dedicated server with CentOS. I have sendmail and postifx installed and I realized all the emails send by the server are redirected to my own private address.
For example if I want to send an email to "luc@test.com", I will receive it in my box (ex "paulin@gmail.com")... I also receive in my box the logwatch which should be send to root@serverblabla.live-servers.net

I have one Centos Server and I want to forward root mail to 1 external account: [URL] I installed sendmail and created /root/.forward with this content: [URL] and I sent a test mail with this command: /usr/sbin/sendmail root <prueba.txt But nothing was forwarded.
After that I ran the same command with the verbose option:

For some reason sendmail tried to connect to example.com smtp server and couldn't reach it. I am sure this is because the smtp server for example.com domain is not example.com is mail.example.com. Besides mail.example.com requires authentication, username , password and the smtp port is not the default 25 is 9999. configure sendmail to forward root mail to a smtp server that requires authentication, username, password with a not the default 25 port?
I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains).My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.

I have setup sendmail to send any mails like this to my email address on a Windows machine.The problem is that there emails don't have a header which has the senders original email header. It comes from localhost on my sendmail. How can I get any mail generated from the apache site to ALSO send mail to root on the Centos Server? That way I should be able to see the header and report the spammer or block them.
