Server :: Allow Users To Receive Emails From A Few Select Domains And Block The Rest
May 4, 2010
I've got a request from one of my company's subsidiaries to block all incoming and outgoing mail for a group of users. I've read up some guides on access.db and I know how to do that, but now they want to allow these users to receive emails from a few select domains, and block the rest. To summarize:
1) Block all incoming and outgoing email to users in team A, except mail from [URL]
2) All other users can receive and send mail from/to any domain.
My email server (Postfix + Courier + virtual dropboxes) can receive internal emails, but if the email is sent from the exterior (like Gmail or Hotmail) this email is returned to the 3?rovider (like Gmail):Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:xxxx@xxxxxxx.xxxTechnical details of permanent failure:Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 sorry, no mailbox here by that name (#5.1.1) (state 14).
----- Original message -----MIME-Version: 1.0I've tried a lot of things, I've used this guide:http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/My Ubuntu Server is 10.4 (Lucid), I had the same configuration with a previous Ubuntu version and everything was right.
I've set up a fully functional e-mail server and can send and receive e-mails to and from an array of virtual domains without a problem. The only hiccup I have is that only root is able to send e-mails via mutt. I have not stipulated a sendmail line in the mutt configuration so it's sending e-mail with default configuration. How can I get it so that all users on the server can send outgoing e-mails via mutt?
Update: Solved this by following this http://inmyplace.info/2008/05/07/pos...ission-denied/
who manage Postfix servers, what do you recommend is the best way to refuse all incoming and outgoing mail to specific domains? I want a blacklist of domains such as:
- AOL - Yahoo - MSN - Hotmail - Gmail
Is there a proper way I can tell Postfix to please deny sending and receiving SMTP traffic to and from those specific domains I specify? I see no need in my corp. mail server has to communicate in any way to those. I allow access to all those accounts via port 80/443 so they can just login to the web and send non business related junk this way.
I have configured Postfix on a Ubuntu 8.04 box using this tutorial:I can send emails but I cannot receive any email because of a "bad recipient address syntax:"The log from /var/log/mail.info says this:
I'm wondering why we can't received email when our primary DNS went down. We have slave DNS but don't know why we can't receive emails. Internet is working properly. The mail file in /etc/configuration on slave dns are there & the zone file is added. I edited the mail zone file to see if it works & restarted the named service. But still we can't received emails using the slave DNS. Do I need to reboot the server?
I am running a spam filter on debian lenny 5.1 with postfix, amavis-new, spamassassin, and clamav. It works pretty well but I would like to finish tweaking it to minimize the mail getting quarantined. It really isn't quarantining anything that isn't spam, except for an occasional list mailer. However, the quarantine is huge, and takes a while to go through. I noticed that much of the spam is coming from foreign country tld's like .cz is there anyway to have postfix run a check on the header and if the email, or smtp origination is from a server from a foreign tld have it just rejected. I can whitelist anything if need be in the future but as of now we don't do any business overseas and don't need to worry about blocking legit email.
I think this should be possible, however, I am unsure of the syntax for the file, where to put it and if wildcards are possible in domain blocking like
Could it be the IMAP file is corrupt?I have set up mail server on Centos to receive via dovecot. One of my user accounts (A single account out of a hundred)cannot receive their mails.
It is the strangest thing. I can not receive emails on this server after it has been up for an hour. I noticed that everytime and email is received that a sshd opens but never closes. Causeing a memory issue that I dont know how to fix. Also the mailq grows and grows. Mostly with email stating the recipient and send are both [URL].. also postmaster@mail.jmchd.com shows mail system configuration error. I have to restart the server every 30 minutes so users can get and send emails. This is horrible because for every 5 minutes out of the hour emails are bouncing.i have looked through them but I know not what I am looking at.
PS. I was thrown into the position and have limited knowledge. I am used to a GUI.
I have just installed iRedMail-0.6.1 to my Ubuntu 10.04 powered server. I can receive emails from mail accounts on my server and I cal also send emails from those accounts to other servers like gmail. The problem is I cannot receive emails from gmail, hotmail or any other server.
I'm in the process of starting a migration from an old postfix server to nice shiney new exim server however there are a few things i'm really not clear on and i'm hoping that some one here could point me in the correct direction. Okay the postfix server at the moment does the follwoing ( i'll try and keep this simple ):
* accepts incoming mail for users on multiple domains and puts the mail in the users mailbox ( external -> internal )
*accepts mail from users on multiple domains to pass on to the outside world ( internal -> external )
Obviously the POP and Imap functions are handled by other daemons.. I'd like to replicate this sort of setup on the new exim box, however the guides i can find only help with configuring the exim system for incoming mails ( external -> internal ) for multiple domains and i cant seem to find a guide that would indicate how to do both ( internal -> external and external -> internal ) on one box. I'm guessing i may have to do some sort of auth to get exim to accept and then handle the internal -> external side of things?
Well I want my sendmail to pipe all users' incoming emails to /dev/null ... I just don't want to accept emails. Every user that exist on the system currently or will be made in future, I want their incoming emails to them to be piped to /dev/null .... I just want those users to be able to send emails.
I have s smtp configured server , the problem i am facing is that i am not able to sent emails to some domains for instance yahoo.com or ymail.com rest all domains the email goes through
I want to configure a single mail server to send and receive mail from multiple sub domains of my domain. I've already installed Postfix/Dovecot and it is perfectly working for mydomain.com. And also installed roundcube for Web Mail. Can I further customize this setup to process mail to sub domains? ex- someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com, someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com, someone2@subdomain1.mydomain.com (someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com and someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com are 2 separate users. they should be able to log on to web interface separately)
Currently i use system account names as email user names. (ex - systemusername@mydomain.com). The only MX record in my domain DNS pointed to current server (mailhost.mydomain.com). I read about postfix virtual domains. but couldnt figure out how to use it to achive my target. I do not need configuration details. Just explain me the way to do it. I can do the rest my self.
Our main DNS resolves to a windows 2008 server box. What I want to do is have a secondary box with Ubuntu to receive sent emails (our@our.com). The problem my brain cannot get around is the DNS resolves to the windows server 2008 box(which host the website as well), how can we allow the email (ours@ours.com) to go to the Ubuntu email server even though the DNS name resolves to the windows server? We need the Windows Server but just Don't want it hosting our mail.
I want to setup an email client in order to send/receive emails, but since i am experiencing some issues with my ISP, i decided to setup an SMTP server with Postfix on my machine. The problem is that i can receive emails but i can not send.I read almost every thread in here refering to Postfix, but i could not find the problem on my configuration. So here it is..
Code: # See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first
i'm using fedora 12 and i wanna send mail using command $mail actually i tried to send mail to my gmail , yahoo ,and hotmail emails but i didn't receive the mail so i expect that i should have some configuration on my host before sending mai
I want to change all outgoing email from my Ubuntu server running postfix to change (masquerade) the username. eg. james@example.com will appear as 'From' 'admin@example.com'. I already know how to masquerade domains, but not users.
Just another newbie question here, I've recently changed my main OS to ubuntu 9.10 and everything is going swimmingly.Except a small problem with empathy IM. I have seen posts where people complain about it not being able to set its status to hidden for MSN, this is not what my problem is.My problem is as follows: when friends of mine who's status is set to hidden on MSN (them using windows and default MSN app) message me, I receive no such messages. They have to set the status to visable to be able to message me at all.
On XP I used Digsby, it could recieve such messages normally. So I am not sure if it is due to empathy being a 3rd party app.
We are facing an issue with virtual users. We have configured postfix in Fedora 12. We are able to receive as well as send mails for the main domain users (i.e. example.com) but not able to receive virtual users mail (i.e. configured example2.com in main.cf and configured in virtual file as systems@example2.com useronly). We are receiving error message in outlook as 0x800CCC0F. Please guide us how to solve this issue.
I've been banging my head against the screen on this strange problem. Somehow my server sends out spam mails to a lot of aol mail addressess. The mail.log file looks like:
I want to configure a remote internet facing server as git server. I would like to restrict access to the server to a few systems (access is restricted to select computers, not users). I first thought of using ssh key, but the key can be copied to another system hence that alone is not sufficient. I am having a dynamic IP, so simple IP based firewall blocking is also not possible. I was thinking about the possibility of using both SSH Key and IP based access. Is it possible to update the firewall rule whenever my ip gets changed?
am using qmail and have webmin, all is running smoothly, but i have users spamming other staff accounts. The question: How do I block a user from sending out mails but still able to receive mails. Just denying access to sending mails?if anyone can guide me to do it via terminal as well as webmin. Why webmin you ask, because I have tried it once it works but sadly it block both incoming and outgoing mails.
I created an account for my brother but it's a very limited account, just so he can browse and listen to music and stuff like that. However, what I do find funny is the fact that accounts are secured with a password but limited accounts can browse to /home and see the files of everyone, even admins, without Ubuntu asking for a password.I obviously do not want this to happen.Anyway, is there any way I can block him from being able to browse to my homefolder, other than encrypting it?
How can I block messages from people who isn't in my buddy list in Pidgin?I always receive a lot of bothering messages from people who is not in my list, I have look at all the options in Pidgin but I didn't find where to set this condition.
