View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed opensuse 11.2 on my notebook i found my broadcomm 4312 wlan card in the hardware list, but it's not working. I probed different ways to solve the problem.
I found these methods: [url]
I tested them all.
I'm afraid this is not enough, because the wlan led is not lighting. Every extra button works well such as volume buttons, but the wlan button does not working, so i can't switch on the wlan.
I just installed 10.04 LTS on my husband's Dell laptop but don't know how to get my wifi to work. I did some searching here in the forums and found a bunch of posts, but all are from 2008 or earlier meaning that they are probably not for my version of Ubuntu - feel free to tell me that the steps are the same.
Anyway, I did a 'lspci' in Terminal and the important lines that appeared are:
03.00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base0TX (rev 02)
0c.00.0 Network Controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
So my system does recognized the wireless card, I just don't know how to get Ubuntu to find available networks. I tried adding in our network as a 'hidden' network - which it isn't and that didn't work, so I'm up for any suggestions in how to get the computer to connect to the wifi network?
I just installed ubuntu server, and I need to use a usb wifi thingy for it, but it refuses to connect. The computer recognizes the wifi, and I can even do "sudo iwlist scan" and see my wifi network, but I can't figure out how to connect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a Live CD that has Adobe Flash installed working with Firefox. I need the Live CD for my vacation so I can use it to book hotel rooms using the live cd on public Windows pcs which are probably infested with all sorts of nasty things. Using my credit card with IE on those machines is out of the question. My worry is keyloggers and other things that can copy my credit card info.
Is it possible to install Adobe Flash on a live cd or is there a workaround? Should I use a different approach? I've heard of using firefox on a usb flash disc but not in any details. I'm not bringing my own laptop. In that case I wouldn't have a problem, I guess. I have to use machines in hotel business centers or internet cafees.
i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.

I don't have wired connection at all and the wifi router is not managed by me, so I'm retyping output through my windows xp samsung netbook which works over the same wireless network...
I have tries some other solutions I found around here (install bcmwl-kernel-source, rt3090-dkms_2.4.0.4, blacklist rt2800pci...) so it's not original configuration but behaves exactly the same.

Recently my computer was infected by several viruses and my brother cleaned it up and installed SuSe for me. He also put windows xp back on my system for our children. I am having a terrible time installing our Dell 924 printer. I have it installed for windows, but cannot get it to print for my Linux system. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give me some direction?

I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work. View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find this anywhere. I have burned Debian 5.06 for i386 and trying to login when running the live cd. What is the username and password to get in?
edit....
I found 'user' and 'live' but they don't work.
I can not connect to wifi networks, i can see them but not connect.
My wifi device is:
Live CD: I dowloaded the ISO, burned it to CD, booted from this CD. It starts to load and I can see the purple background with the loading icons. Everything seems normal. But instead of ending up with the login screen, it ends up with a screen that says 'Please remove all bootup media and hit ENTER' or something like this. So I hit enter and then it shuts off my computer. That's it.
Live Stick: So I tried another option and created a stick with 'usb-creator.exe' that is on the CD. Then I start from that stick, but all I end up is a line of 'Syslinux bla bla copyright 20xx-2011'. That's it. Then it does nothing anymore. The cursor is blinking, but no prompt or whatsoever and keyboard input doesn't do anything.
Now something weird: When I insert Live CD and Live Stick at the same time and then boot my computer, then it boots into Ubuntu. Obviously it loads the first parts from CD and then the rest from stick. Because when I'm then in Ubuntu and try to format the stick, it says it can't do so, because there's system files from that stick in use.
So I've recently scrapped togehter a computer to use for running openSUSE, and I've downloaded the Live CD, as well as the full DVD. Whenever I turn on the machine with either, I get the DISK BOOT FAILURE error. I've made sure that it boots first from CDROM drive, and verified all of hte wiring, but I can't see to get this to boot up. I've heard its possible it's just an issue that the motherboard doesn't want to run it, but are there other things to do to test it out?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a Suse 11.2 laptop with a bluetooth Wifi device (recognised and working), and an Android 2.1 smartphone (Motorola Milestone). I would like to connect the two via Wifi. I don't have a Wifi router, I've just used it now and again through hotspots. I normally connect to the internet via a mobile broadband USB dongle. So, I suppose I need to configure my laptop as a Wifi router in order to set up our little private LAN between the two devices. Is that right? If yes, can someone please point me to a relevant howto because I've searched high and low and didn't find anything. :-(If the above is not right, then where should I look, please? Is it possible at all, actually?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI will be migrating SLES-10-SP2 operating system to new hard drives. I will be cloning most of the file systems. I had downloaded openSeSU-11-3-gnome Live CD and burned an ISO image. I want to install new drives in the PC and use the Live CD to create partitions to use in a RAID system. I have seen on the web that the Live CD can be used to install the OS on a machine but I did not see any option that just give the ability to use YAST to partition and create RAID system. Thus my question is how can I use the Live CD just to prepare the disk without installing the OS?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just carried out a complete installation on my HP 2133 mini notebook. It was preloaded with suse 10.1 and the first time I connected it to my BT HomeHub2 was with the network icon on my home screen. Since switching to suse 11.2 when I click the same icon all I get is a setup screen with what seems like millions of setup fields that I do not understand? I have never worked with linux before so do not want to guess the settings. I have looked at google search for the answer but every page seems to be for computer programmers or I am just being dull. I can connect the ethernet cable and it works fine, but I cannot even find a network.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been in doubt weather to install Linux open SUSE or Mint on my Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. Having tried the latest SUSE live CD (not finding a way to use WiFi) I decided to install Mint (Katya release). Now it turns out there's a bug on Ubuntu/debian related linux distros in connection with Dell Laptops, specifically on WiFi cards by Broadcom. (If you want to know more, check this Ubuntu forum thread and my comment on it.) My question is: are there any known bugs on Dell with OpenSUSE? An additional question would be: is it at all possible to use WiFi with the latest SUSE live CD?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to create a Suse 11.3 Live CD with Acronis on it so that I can boot from any computer, use Acronis, and still have some Linux commands available to me. Is this possible? I could part with OpenOffice.org to provide room for Acronis.
I currently have Acronis selectable in my grub menu, and it runs from my hard drive.
do a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 in its own partition.
I had it it installed via WUBI and have just deleted it via add/remove programs in windows.
I have Open-suse OS installed which I want to remove, and replace with Ubuntu.
When I boot Ubuntu live from the DVD open g-parted the partitions I want delete are already Mounted so I cannot do the delete.
I'm was trying to choose between GNOME and KDE for version 8. However both the live DVD's fail to pick up the Wifi card on my system. I am also unable to use certain basic commands such as ifconfig on the live CD. I am completely new to Linux and Debian (of course). Pardon me for the hand holding. This will be my first install of a Linux system.
What steps I can take to ensure that the Wifi card and the network card will be supported - hardware compatibility test maybe? Is there a way to try before installing? This will be a dualboot with Windows 8.1

Can I install the kernel e.g. from [URL] via YAST, or does it need other libraries / software as well and so the system becomes unstable, would anybody know?
