i have use SUSE studio to create a live CD image that is an .ISO.
How can i boot that from a flash drive because when i select to boot from flash drive it says there is no boot-able partition.
I would like to create a Suse 11.3 Live CD with Acronis on it so that I can boot from any computer, use Acronis, and still have some Linux commands available to me. Is this possible? I could part with OpenOffice.org to provide room for Acronis.
I currently have Acronis selectable in my grub menu, and it runs from my hard drive.
I'm trying to make my USB bootable with the OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit KDE iso image. When I open up SUSE Studio Image Writer (by following the Windows instructions here), it doesn't find the .iso image on my desktop. When I'm selecting the image, it's looking for a .raw file. Do I have to do some trickery to change the .iso image to a .raw?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have not used Linux in some time (I used to use it back when suse 8 was still out and mandrake linux was still around).
Recently I decided to give it another go and downloaded both the LiveCD and the DVD (both 64-bit versions AND 32-bit versions).
I have a Dell Studio 1747 Laptop (with the 17.3 screen). It has an Intel i7 1.6GB processor, 4GB ram and an ATI Radeon 4650.
My problem is that the LiveCD just will not work. It gets to its boot menu, but when I press enter on the boot KDE live CD option, it will either try to boot and then freeze, or it will boot, you will hear that startup music, but the display will go blank. Could it be that it cannot handle my display or the graphics card on the laptop?
Unfortunately I have Windows 7, which doesn't seem to be supported by the windows installer on the DVD, so I can't test if it would work that way.
I must admit that ubuntu has given me the same grief, and so I wonder if maybe the laptop isn't yet supported properly by linux yet?
how I could use a live system or something, to at least try linux for a few things (I would need to retain windows for games and stuff). I'm not into resizing partitions and things, so I would prefer something else that could work.
Whenever I try to use a preload ISO from susestudio.com, it takes me about 5 tries to actually get it to install. I load it up in VirtualBox, and on the screen that warns "you are about to erase all data on /dev/sda, continue?", selecting "yes" will 80% of the time cause it to think you cancelled and waits 30 seconds before rebooting. Every now and then it decides to work, but sadly that's the exception and not the rule. If it makes any difference, the appliance I'm downloading is a custom one based on openSUSE 11.4 Minimal X with GNOME 3 installed on top of it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter something happened in SUSE Studio, in any appliances I build the owner of /home/tux/Desktop is root which makes impossible to create desktop icons. This happens even in those appliances which previously were build normally with normal ownership (i.e. tux as owner of /home/tux/Desktop). Something changed abruptly and in all these appliances the ownership of this folder changed.

The KDE live CD image that I downloaded is defective. That's great. Just great. What a waste of 700mb of my Internet usage.

Ok, so I have installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, setup the wireless adapter (why is this so difficult?) and installed a few applications. I do like the look of openSUSE but would like to check out a few other flavours. With my Windows 7 (can I say that here?) machines I can create a system image and a system restore CD with a fair amount of ease. Is there a similar process available for Linux?

I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
I tried most of the methods using a graphical interface to create a live USB through a 64-bit dvd image to install opensuse 11.2 including unetbootin, Win32DiskImager, Mandriva's Seed... Everything failed, so I'm left with the option to do it through the command prompt. There is a dd tool for Windows, and I got the command line instructions in the Live USB page. One thing I don't understand is that how is insert my path of the iso image for this command in Windows: # dd if=/path/to/iso/openSUSE-11.2-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M;sync; Should I replace the bit # dd if=/path/to/iso/openSUSE-11.2-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso, with like something like # dd if= CDownloadsOpensuse11.2x-64.iso?

I'd like to put both the 32-bit and 64-bit OSS 11.3 onto a 2GB usb stick from their respective Live CD ISOs. I tried to make a partitions on the usb ( 1GB ) each, and then dd each ISO to separate partitions, make 1 of the partition bootable. But that doesn't work, even from the bootable partition. Any suggestions how to achieve that goal? Ideally there would be a main boot loader, which then provides option to boot each of the distro.

I was wondering, How do I mount these compressed filesystem images, after I copy the ISO content of the CD/DVD on my system .... I want to edit some files or packages and make some changes, like if I want to customize a live version of gnome for example ! ... ( I know you might be tempted to tell me to use KIWI etc to customize etc ..... ) ... but I want to be able to mount the compressed file system image, then edit it for reading and writing while it is in a subdirectory on its own ... i want to open it ! ... is there a way to do this ??? ... these type of files have no extension ...
i can open this compressed filesystem image then to edit for read & write ... before I roll it back again ..... If and when I succeed .... what should I watch out for ? ... will the same compressed file image but slightly modified work again ?
PS. that same question could be kind of translated or be extended like : how do I use unionfs/squashfs programs on the command line to mount these image files with no extension for read & write mode ???
I finished making a custom build OS of openSUSE 11.4 using suse studio but when I tried running the LIVE DVD in a laptop with an ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4250, I got a black screen. Everything from the word go seemed fine showing everything from the loading Kernel message, but the screen that is supposed to show the user accounts is surprisingly absent and only a black screen in its place.
I have only seen this problem with ATi graphics, Intel graphics work just fine. I haven't tested it on a laptop with nvidia. I'm using the default openSUSE 11.4 Kernel (Kernel-Desktop 2.6.37.6-0.5.1), Xorg-X11-driver-video-radeonhd 1.3.0_20100512_80ba041-2.1, Mesa 7.10.2-7.3.1, Xorg-X11 7.6-43.44.1. I have listed these few packages contained in the build, but I'm not sure where to look or what I may be missing.
I've put openSUSE several times in USB flash drives. I've used the old method with dd ... and the new one with dd_rescue ..., shown in SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE This way a partition is created (sdb1 or sdc1 or ...), with the Linux file system (ID: 83). One of the problems of this system is that all the data of the pendrive is deleted. Another problem is that sometimes openSUSE doesn't load completely and I cannot use it. And another of the problems is that even if I create another partition (for example to make the Live USB persistent and "remember" the configuration of my computer) and I put some of my photos, songs, films there when I plug the pendrive in a computer running Windows XP I cannot access the data. (What about Vista and 7?)
Other Linux distros can be put in pendrives using the FAT file system (for example W95 FAT32 (LBA), ID: c). This way my personal data or files (photos, documents, ...) can be opened from a computer running Windows XP (and the personal data is not erased when putting the Linux in the pendrive). So I would like to know how to create a Live USB drive with personal files that are avaiable for many Operating Systems, including Windows XP. Perhaps the solution is to put openSUSE in a FAT file system, or put it in Linux file system but create another partition with FAT file system (for this openSUSE should avoid the 1st partition, sdX1, that should be for the personal data, so Windows XP can access it).
I just downloaded OpenSuse 11.1 64 bit live cd from it's official site.I have live usb creater in my xp box , with the help of which I successfully created live USB for fedora 11 earlier. Now the problem is whenever I try to create live usb using Opensuse live ISO image after extracting all files to usb , it gets failed.The same thing is happening with OpenSolaris 11 live cd iso image. Does this mean that live usb creater I have, was only foe Fedora distros?

Unfortunately the installation progress stops in 88% and the message error says "error copy live image to the disk". I have burn two different cd but the result is always the same.Is it a hardware problem or the cd is not correct?I had the 11.2 version in the same pc without any problem for a long time.

I want to install it, should I get the dvd image, or would it be okay for me to just install off live cd (usb) and install whatever I want through the package manager later... Why/why not? I'm a Linux newbie and are trying to install F13 from bootable USB onto the HD of a DELL mini netbook. I've followed the install wizard's defaults including the "Use All Space option." The install errors out at about 20% of progress during the "Copying live image to hard drive" process. The error dialog is as followed:"There was an error installing the live image to your hard drive. This could be due to bad media. Please verify your installation media..." and it comes with options to Exit installer or Retry. I have since retried and restarted several times and still came to the same error. FYI, I've initially attempted to install F13 to the HD over an existing Windows XP.

My Dell Studio 1735 laptop fails to install openSUSE 11.4 install from DVD. The installation tells me it failed to install "kernel.desktop" then grub only has a Floppy entry. When I boot to Recover System /boot has no initrd or kernels.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to create a database with the mysql that came with the suse installation, my problem is that i can't get mysqladmin to work it spits out this: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' exists! So I'm stuck at square one php info() seems ok with the installation and the installed client connects to my remote DB ok. I checked the server with ps -ef | grep mysqld and I get the following:
