i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.

Can I install the kernel e.g. from [URL] via YAST, or does it need other libraries / software as well and so the system becomes unstable, would anybody know?
There was an option in openSUSE about booting an installed system if grub is deleted from the MBR. This option is no longer available and there is no option for automatic recovery. For these reasons, I want to boot an installed system from command line. I know how to mount the root partition where openSUSE 11.3 is installed, but how to proceed?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded tarballs of gpg2 (gnupg-2.0.16), compiled it, compiled dependencies etc. and have it installed on my Suse 10 box. Now I want to install it on another suse 10 box. Instead of doing the compiling/installing steps once again, is there a good way I can package gpg2, or tar it on my server, so it can be easily installed on the other server? Also, when I installed gpg, it was installed everywhere, /usr/local/lib, /usr/local/bin, my download dir etc. How do I pick the needed libraries and executable to make the package? maybe I Should specify a path for the gpg to be installed, then tar the whole directory. how to do the first part?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having a recurring issue for a number of weeks now. Everytime Software Update appears it says there are updates so I click update, enter my root password and then I get this error message:
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package postfix-2.6.1-2.1.i586 is not installed Now that package is not mentioned on the list for me to untick so I have no idea where it's coming from. It happens each time and everytime the updates don't get done. They just stay on the list and new ones keep getting added. The list is getting pritty big now
I am installing opensuse 11.3 as a text-based web server. I have installed apache2, php, php-gd, php-pear and mysql... Now, I am trying to run the installwizard.php to install this LAMP app and any php file, seems to just download, instead of 'resolve to the screen' in the browser. When I run chkconfig, and see that apache and mysql are running. I have already restarted apache, and it seems to come up okay. I have created a test index.html file, and seems to be loading fine. I have googled for this, and it doesn't seem to happen to anyone else! when I try to yum install php, it says that version php5-5.3.2-1.31.i586 is already installed.
I am using yum, on the command line. Permissions are:

I use Termlite from SCO as my terminal emulator. It works on SUSe 9.3 but i can not get it working on 11.3. How do I enable the networking for this in SUSE 11.3.

I am running Suse 11.3 64bit and OpenOffice 3.2.1.4 it installed with the system.OpenOffice's latest is 3.3 something, is there a repository that I can add to continuously update the program? Or do I need to completely remove the present program and install the latest from OpenOffice.org? It would appear that the one that came with the system was pieced together by the Suse team - do they update this at all?

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust installed opensuse 11.2 (64-bit version) and I have a problem with the Mplayer browser plugin. Basically it comes up OK, I get the MPlayer plugin splash screen and controls exactly as expected, it downloads the media successfully (or at least looks like it does) but then doesn't play, it just reports "Stopped".
Mplayer itself works fine, it's just the browser that doesn't.

When i was done succesfully booting from the usb stick, and came back to my good old suse10.3 on my laptop, i found out that the system sound has suddenly stopped working. My sound is coming with my usb stick, but not with my native os.
I'm having issue with trying to put the 11.3 DVD iso to a USB pendrive...I've verified the ISO md5sum matches, formatted the pendrive to FAT32, unmounted and finally done:

Everything appears to work fine, but once I try to boot I geterror saying no installation CD/DVD is not found and is asking for software installation repository, so I select the media as hard drive since if I select cd/dvd drive, the messag "no repository found"...then I select the USB drive (sdc1 4.2GB, iso9660, openSUSE-DVD) then it asks for "enter the source directory"...I'm not certain what to enter there, so I just point to the root directory "/" and installation continues...followed by "no new driver updates found"....so GUI starts up again...it loads kernel modules, to confirm "usb-storage"...then a message "the partitioning on disk /dev/sdc is not readable by the portioning tool parted,...." I click OK...finally I get stuck on
How to copy a file from different servers to one server. I'm trying to do with some script that will use scp to copy file. But to connect to the server, it is asking for the password. Then I copy ssh rsa keys (lets say from server B to server A), its now copying file without asking me for the password. But the problem is its working only between 2 servers. If I generate rsa keys on other server (server C) and copy to the server (server A) where I need to copy file, it overwrites the existing rsa key file, hence I'm no longer able to ssh from server B.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a use case where in I am trying to build a yacc program using bison. When I run this on SLES 9, I get errors. But the same works for me fine on a SLES 10 system.
The versions of bison, glibc are different. Hence I moved the rpms from SLES 10 machine to SLES 9 and did a rpm2cpio of these 2 to a temporary folder and did a export of LD_LIBRARY_PATH. When I try to run the program ( ./bison) I am getting a segmentation fault. I have the following questions :
1) IS the scenario what I am trying to do - using a newer version of libc( from sles 10) to sles 9 supported ?
I am currently running openSUSE 11.2, but I do not like the KDE4 interface. I downgraded everything back to KDE3, but kept the KDE4 artwork. The NetworkManager program under KDE4 works fine and can connect to my home wireless network. However, The previous of NM cannot cannot connect to any wireless network.
I find it kind of odd, since KNetworkManager is just a frontend to the real NM, with was not actually changed when I downgraded.
When I installed opensuse 11.2 on my notebook i found my broadcomm 4312 wlan card in the hardware list, but it's not working. I probed different ways to solve the problem.

I'm afraid this is not enough, because the wlan led is not lighting. Every extra button works well such as volume buttons, but the wlan button does not working, so i can't switch on the wlan.
I am using OpenSuse 10.3 and want to upgrade to Flash 10. I already have libflashplayer.so installed.

I tried to find these with no luck. Is there any program I can download and just extract these from? My Yast is a trainwreck. All servers have been shutdown. Just am now learning some terminal commands. I am trying to patch up 10.3 so when 11.4 comes out I will build a new PC.
Today I try to shared a folder for Windows XP using GUI in OpenSUSE 11.1. I created a folder --> right click and click on Share --> Check on "Share with Samba(Microsoft Windows)", "Public" and "Writable". Then connect from Windows using //192.168.100.1/sharefolder. It open up but I can only read (no write access as I check on "Writable"). Did I miss something?

I have tried 4 times to install SuSE, but I have each time same problem. Suse installer shows instead 20 and 120GB partitions 16 and 104 GB and insallation was failed with message that PC probably was attacked. Before was installed excellent worked OpenSuSE 10.3. I have no idea. It's PC with AMD 3200 64-bit, 1GB DDR, Nvidia7300SE.
