View 5 RepliesAfter having a few issues with pidgin I've decided to play with pidgin. Its great, but I'm looking for a way to remap the commands to use the Windows key instead of the Alt key. I've found lots of references that show how to remap using the .gntrc file, but none that mention the windows key. This says I can rebind: [URL] And the examples on all the pages I could google are setup to use Alt (a) or Ctrl (c), but not the windows key. Examples I've found follow this format. Simple enough, but what to use for the Win key?
[GntWM::binding]
c-a-n = window-next
I wanted to use Ctrl-Alt-n ,but I would like to use Win-n
I'm using finch as my main chat client but I have some issues, While on Lubuntu 10.10 I get the message "segmentation fault" when I try to engage /call, I also tried starting voice chat In pidgin and pidgin also crashes. this does not occur under Ubuntu 10.10.I have the voice/video plugin installed for pidgin and from what I have been able to derive from the documentation both finch and pidgin uses the same lib.and pls no referring to use other programs, I want to fix this specific Issue with finch.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new here and Fedora. Currently running Fedora 12 and recieved kernel crashes to which error report shows failure with IPv6.
I have disabled Ipv6 in /etc/sysconfig/network, blacklisted and stop these services.
However why is my Ipv6 failing?
When I go to Administration->Preferences->Appearance, the window pops up for a split second and is then gone. Attempting to open it again yields the same result. I have never had this issue before and haven't changed anything recently that I recall.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently decided to rebuild my fedora install and have had several problems installing the updates to the system. I am receiving the following error:

I am more familiar with using sources.list in debian style distros but I am unsure how to proceed with /etc/yum/repos.d. I am currently attempting to either install them from the CLI or to download the binaries, but I do not think that will fix the problem in my repository lists.
The HD containing my main F14 install is suddenly failing with many unreadable blocks. So I booted a different F14 installation I have on another disk.
Then I run dump, for example, as following:
Code:
dump -0 -a -q -v -A sdb1_home.arc -f sdb1_home.dmp -L F14_sdb1_home /dev/sdb1
as, for what I can recall, I've often done to create full backups.
The problem is that running restore with this command:
Code:
restore -i -A sdb1_home.arc -f sdb1_home.dmp
(as, for whatI can...) and using the add and extract commands, only the directory are created. But files are listed using ls. If I add just a file, only dirname is extracted.
So apparently the GNU c++ compiler did not install when I did:
# yum install gcc
And now it's failing to install the C++ compiler when I do:
# yum install gcc-c++
It's saying it's running out of mirrors to check or something? Does anyone know what else I can do to install it?
I have configured a Fedora 10 server on a mixed Win / ix network but am unable to get DNS to resolve on my Fedora boxes. My DHCP is provided from a D-Link 108G Router - but this will not provide DNS.Therefore I have tried to configure dnsmask to provide just DNS and not DHCP. I can ping around my 192.168.1.x network by IP but not name
View 4 Replies View RelatedSkype doesn't recognise my plugged in mic and earphones. I can hear sound through the headphones from other programs. DVD burner burnt a cd for me, but seemed to pause at around 15-20% and sat there for half an hour. When I ejected CD it jumped to 100% stating it had finished. The CD was a Live Install CD for Ubuntu, which didn't work. I get I/O errors when trying to install from CD on start up. I'm guessing it didn't burn properly or isn't being read properly. I'm generally unsure of what drivers are installed for all of my hardware. Not sure if there is an auto-detection program in or for Fedora that can help, or if I will have to stop being lazy. Skype, like mentioned before. I'm not sure if this is a software issue or driver issue.
Mozilla failing to open. When clicking on the Firefox icon it wouldn't start. Shows an icon at bottom of monitor on toolbar, but disappears after 5-10 seconds with no browser opening. I had recently installed a VLC player with plugin for Mozilla while logged in as root. Wondering if I messed this one up myself? I stumbled onto updates and it had Mozilla install in there. It works again. I'm sure it won't be reoccurrent. If I were to post system specs and issues I'm having, would someone on this forum be willing to guide me through or point me in the direction of having my laptop fully operational? All drivers basically. It works as is, just not completely

I'm building a lab of fedora 14 machines that are supported by an RHEL/CentOS 5.6 server. Everything was working fine yesterday, but today ypbind can't connect to the server and nfs mounts fail with this message:

mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'addr=10.9.1.6'
mount.nfs: prog 100003, trying vers=3, prot=6

I can ping the server from the client using FQDN and ip address.
Last week, i updated, my fedora. After that, during every boot up, I am getting a warning message like " Your hard disk may failing". It indicates that it is due to bad sectors. But I don't think so. There was a bug reported for a similar problem in fedora 11. I think it is not fixed yet. Hard disk is not having any problem during data access. Other OS including windows are not giving any warning message.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to download the DVD Install ISO for Scientific Linux (Red Hat with some additions for science) to my PC-Laptop external USB Hard Disk, but the download keeps failing near the end.
My PC-Laptop is running Vista 32bit, and the external HD is a 500GB wallet sized Buffalo HD with 400 GB free. I'm no PC sys admin - but the Scientific Linux file is over 4GB in size and I wonder if this might be a problem if the HD is formatted as a FAT32 rather than an NTFS disk (if that's the correct terminology)?
The Windows Vista download window says that I've run out of space on the HD, even though I haven't.
Note that I can't think I can download this as multiple CD's rather than a single DVD distribution - because I'm trying to install this Scientific Linux in Oracle(former Sun) Virtual Box and I'm having difficulties understanding what it wants and was advised by someone to download Scientific Linux as a single iso to burn to a DVD (in the hope that Virtual box will see it for installation in the DVD drive) - but as said I'm unable to even download the DVD installation file.
I ran smartctl and it says "unrecognized" hard drive. I recognized the hard drive the first time I ran the test. But now, it's unrecognized? How come? I don't know how or why this happens. How can I get rid of this problem and the annoying icon?
I tried to run Windows, then started getting errors? This is strange: I've been running Linux the whole day. I last used the Windows hard drive was 2 days ago. Now its screwing up. Window is screwing up the hard drive? HDD has too many bad sectors. didn't touch it, I didn't do much on it, etc? I do not understand?!
I can't get my Fedora 12 laptops to find bluetooth devices. In fact, I can't seem to get bluetooth working at all. This is happening with identical symptoms on two very different laptops, both of which had working bluetooth out-of-the-box with Fedora 10. Under Fedora 12 bluetooth silently fails and I have no idea how to debug it.
Here are the details:
- I'm running Fedora 12 on 32 and 64 bit machines. Both exhibit the same problem.
- I'm using KDE for both (this is the KDE spin of Fedora 12, the 32 and 64 bit versions)
I've got kdebluetooth installed. When I run
Code:
I see:
So I think the right programs are running.
Using the system menus, I can click on "Kdebluetooth4" but nothing happens. There is no bluetooth icon in the system tray, nor have I been able to discover how to add one (I thought clicking Kdebluetooth4 would do that).
I can manually run kbluetooth-devicemanager from the command line, and attempt to look for devices. The devices are never found (they are found by a nearby Windows machine, so I know the devices work). There are no error messages in the GUI, or in /var/log/messages.
On the console, I do see these messages when I run kbluetooth-devicemanager and attempt to discover devices:
Code:
Based on Google searches, that would imply a problem with dbus (I think) but dbus appears to be installed and running.

Unfortunatels there ist a problem: I wanted to compile a driver for my wlan-card but got the known error "make: command not found". So I searched this forum and found in this thread that I need to install the development tools. But when I try to do so by typing yum groupinstall "Development Tools" it first starts but then cancels with an error message claiming missing dependencies to a perl package:
Quote:
Fehler: Fehlende Abhngigkeit: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 wird bentigt von Paket 1erl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-49.fc10.i386 (installed)
Due to my ignorance I tried yum install perl but this also fails with the same error message I am sure it is just a bite for you but I don't hava a clue right now By the way I already can call the command make install now for the wlan-card driver. It also starts but fails and says:

Has any one come across this ?
I have 2 services registered one for HAProxy and one for stunnel. When I type service start haproxy or service start stunnel they start and everything works fine. I ran ntsysv and they are set as autostart, and I have init.d scripts that work. I have checked the runlevel and using chkconfig runlevel 3, 4 and 5 are :on. And I also added service haproxy start and service stunnel start to inittab. But when I restart the computer haproxy and stunnel fail to autostart. I am a fedora novice and I have no idea why this isn't working...

Using F12 with a LVM Volume, Single disk with OS on and boot partition. The OS HDD is getting i/o errors, but will still boot to the login screen. I've removed the HDD and connected it to a Fedora Live OS on my laptop, connected the HDD and it registers as :
[root@localhost]# fdisk -l /dev/sdd
Disk /dev/sdd: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000e0069
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdd1 * 1 26 204800 83 Linux
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sdd2 26 30401 243991201 8e Linux LVM
And it tried to mount /dev/sdd2 to view and see if I can recover some files.
[root@localhost]# mount /dev/sdd2 /mnt -t ext4[root@localhost james]# mount /dev/sdd2 /mnt -t ext4
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Any way to mount the partition to allow me to try and get some data back, or if trying to do a full backup of the drive you can get it to ignore i/o errors.

I am running Live 12 on my CD rom drive of my dying laptop. I have a major Windows registry error on that system and am working to recover my files.
