May 23, 2009Currently using oracle 9i with 3 database(maindb,arist,samp) in redhat 5.3 server .I want to stop 2 database "maindb" and "samp" manually ( in XP or Vista we can stop service oraclemaindb and oraclesamp ), but in redhat i dont know how to stop services and how to see currently running oracle services.

But executing sqlplus user/pass@database, it tries to connect but time later I receive a timeout. What i do is a redir from port 1521 in "Reverse proxy" to 1521 in "Oracle database" why this doesn't work or any other way to do it?

Jan 7, 2010We have a Dell PE6600 with a QLA2460 FC HBA in it. Server is running RedHat AS 4.7 (kernel 2.6.9-78), FC driver used is the file qlafc-linux-8.02.23-3-install.tar downloaded from the QLogic website. On this server is an Oracle database running (11.1.0.6). Files for the Oracle database are located in mountpoint /u02. The SAN is an iQStor 2880. Since several weeks we suddenly have problems with the Oracle database after a reboot of the server. After a reboot the mountpoint /u02 is readable and writable (tested by creating, opening and removing files).
However, when we try to start the database we get an error which give you the idea that the database is corrupt. The Oracle error is quite a general error. After doing a lot of testing we found out that if we unmount /u02 and mount it again (using mount -a so it reads the /etc/fstab), the database can be started after all. So the database is not corrupt but for some weird reason we have to remount /u02 first before the Oracle database can use it. We don't know if it's a linux issue, fibre issue, san issue or an oracle issue.

General :: DHCP Is Not Starting Keep Failing In Centos Os 5.5
Feb 26, 2011I have Dell rack server. With the network card of five network ports. But I am just using first one (eth0).
Now the problem:
Its connected the internet and the internet is working fine. I also got update using yum.
When I do ifconfig to check its dynamic IP. It also shows the IP(something like: 192.168.x.x), but if I go to services and try to start DHCPd service its fails. Its not starting at all. And If I go to other computer (Windows 7) and try to ping the dell servers IP, I cannot ping it. So since I cannot ping it from other computer, so no one we can have remote access to the dell server.
I dont understand without starting DHCPd how the dell server is getting the IP address.
So I thought maybe DHCP is corrupted so I removed it using yum and reinstalled it using yum, but no luck so far.
CentOS 5 :: Failing On Boot At 'Starting Udev' On ESXi4?
May 12, 2010Have just installed 5.4 64 bit on an AMD64 x2 system with 4 GB ram running ESXi4.Text based install went fine, but on reboot starting up it gets as far as 'Starting udev' and just hangs. Checking the performance in ESXi it appears to be using 100% cpu.I have left it for half an hour and it does not progress and the only thing to do is to power cycle the VM.I have searched and found a few suggestions for kernel parameters but they did not make any difference. I can't even get in to a command line as it doesn't boot up far enough.I have reinstalled it several times and also checked the MD5 of the downloaded file and all appears Ok.

Ubuntu :: ORACLE - Nothing Happens When Clicking On "Start Database"
Jan 14, 2011I've installed Oracle XE yesterday (forcing architecture, cause i am using amd64), it was working fine until i reboot my computer.
At the beginning i wasn't able to start because i was getting an error:
- "Operation failed. my_user is not a member of 'dba' group."
So, i went to System -> Administration -> Users and Groups -> Manage Groups -> (selected 'dba') -> Properties, and checked my user.
But now, when i click on "Start Database", the cursor stay 'waiting' and after some time it goes back to the pointer and nothing happens. On "Run SQL Command Line" i get "SP2-0640: Not connected" and in "Go To Database Homepage": - "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:1234"
(When installing i chose port 1234)
Now i cant uninstall it (I've installed it through dpkg for forcing architecture, and opening the .deb package i don't get the "uninstall" button)

It operates in conjuction with a Firebird database which stores subtitles (I think) and the sequencing data (the lengths of each segment) for recording (a recorded piece will be subdivided into small audio/video segments during which the student repeats what's been said).The audio and video functions are run internally by Windows Media Player, and the video input must be in .WMV format for the system to function.Using Wine, I've managed to install the language lab program on Ubuntu, as well as the Firebird database program. However, each time I start the language lab program, I get the message "Firebird database not started!".There is a BIN folder with the language lab software that contains a .INI file with the following contents:
Perhaps that needs to be modified for Linux or Wine on Linux? I've tried changing the DataBase field with the Linux path to the appropriate .FDB file, and likewise the ServerName field to the Ubuntu computer name or the ip address, but to no avail. Lately, I've installed the Linux version of Firebird and Flame Robin (which I couldn't understand).If anyone can provide any help or suggestions, I'd be most grateful (it's the only thing preventing me from migrating 100% to Linux).

Jul 24, 2011I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
--Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g--
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb

Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
