Slackware :: Can Pipe "alerts" From Finch To Dzen2
Dec 26, 2010
I have ratpoison and dzen2 and I'm wondering if there is a way to have finch seld an alert to dzen when I receive a message. I currently only have dzen getting the date/time and battery level.
I was very happy to see that dzen2 is now available on SlackBuilds.org because now I can use XMonad to its fullest. Unfortunately, sbopkg is not able to download the source code for dzen2. This is probably because the source is hosted on Google Code, which requires the user to click a second download link for some reason. I downloaded the source and the SlackBuild manually and installed dzen2 that way, and that worked perfectly, but I would really prefer to have sbopkg manage updates for me. Is there any way I could get this working? Perhaps I could just download the source manually, place it in the appropriate directory, and let sbopkg build it and manage updates, but I don't know which directory the source would go in or if this would even work.
Here is the link to the SlackBuilds.org page for dzen2: [URL]
I've written a simple server in linux used fork to create a FIFO pipe. The server create two FIFO pipe. One for server read data from client and write data to client. Then another pipe for client read data from server and write data to server. When the server read data from a client used server-pipe and then write data to client. But ,if the client no read open the pipe, the server side write will be crashed because of a broken-pipe SIGPIPE. How to check whether the read side is opened?Or,how to catch the SIGPIPE,and then my server will still execute on,not crashed!!
I'm doing ping between 2 RH servers through a VPN site2site tunnel and in some times I got in the result pipe 2 and another pipe 3 as I mark it in blue color below.
e.g.
64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=0 ttl=128 time=0.229 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=0.287 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.10: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=0.278 ms
[code]....
What's the difference between pipe 2 and pipe 3 and what's the meaning of it?
I am trying to run finch on fedora6. Finch is exiting immediately on starting and i am not able to add any account using it. correct procedure to use finch.
After having a few issues with pidgin I've decided to play with pidgin. Its great, but I'm looking for a way to remap the commands to use the Windows key instead of the Alt key. I've found lots of references that show how to remap using the .gntrc file, but none that mention the windows key. This says I can rebind: [URL] And the examples on all the pages I could google are setup to use Alt (a) or Ctrl (c), but not the windows key. Examples I've found follow this format. Simple enough, but what to use for the Win key?
[GntWM::binding] c-a-n = window-next
I wanted to use Ctrl-Alt-n ,but I would like to use Win-n
I'm using finch as my main chat client but I have some issues, While on Lubuntu 10.10 I get the message "segmentation fault" when I try to engage /call, I also tried starting voice chat In pidgin and pidgin also crashes. this does not occur under Ubuntu 10.10.I have the voice/video plugin installed for pidgin and from what I have been able to derive from the documentation both finch and pidgin uses the same lib.and pls no referring to use other programs, I want to fix this specific Issue with finch.
I have simplified (i.e., got rid of the stuff I don't want) dzen2 script:
Code: #!/bin/sh # Dzen2 toolbar/statusbar execution file. # Options: # -xs = which Xinerama screen # -l = number of lines in slave (dropdown) window # -u update continually # -p <n> timed termination; w/o n seconds, persist forever. # retval: 0 = EOF; 1 = error; or exit:n where n=user-defined retval. # -e event... -e 'event1=action1:option1:...option<n>,...,action<m>;...;event<l>' # event... -e 'button1=exec:xterm:firefox;entertitle=uncollapse,unhide;button3=exit' # Supported events: (see latest README or online docs) .....
There are just 2 little problems that I can't solve. 1. It's not exactly at the top of the screen. 2. As you can see in the attachment, the text in time/date/memory/disk_usage is not vertically centered.
I have some problem with dzen2 & conky to show icons and/or colors.In my i3-wm config file i have:exec conky -b -c ~/.conkyrc | i3-wsbar --command "dzen2 -dock -x %x -l"and my conky is correctly displayed on i3-wsbar.But if in my conky I put something like:
^fg(#B64403) mem: $memperc% or ^fg(red) mem: $memperc%
I'm relatively new to ubuntu and linux and for convenience I choose to surrender to the "ME" set-up by ubuntu, when it comes to using Empathy over my preferred Pidgin (I still use Thunderbird though without integration). The thing that annoys me is that the alert sounds, when I get chat massages and so on, are really low! Lot's of times I missed chats from friends because I didn't hear them. I've looked on the internet and I've tried different sound settings in the main preferences, but nothing. How to turn up the alert volume for Empathy?
This (correctly) display a message to the effect "There are no weather alerts for ...." when there are no weather alerts. However, when there is an alert, it simply displays a message like "Short-term forecast for ..." with no further information.
How are other people getting weather alert info in their conkys?
I have configured Nagios on SLES 10 SP2. I could configure nagios but 2 things are not working correctly.
1.It doesnt show correct disk utilization for /local partition. 2.It doesnt send Alerts.
I have installed NAGIOS (nagios-3.2.0-11.1, nagios-plugins-1.4.14-11.1 and few other which are required to remove dependency) on server and I have installed nagios (nagios-plugins-1.4.14-11.1, nagios-nrpe-client-2.12-11.1 and few other packages to remove dependency) on client.
Configuration files from NAGIOS server: nagios.cfg (Since this file is big, I have copied the relevant portion only. Let me know if any specific info is required from this file)=>
Sometimes the website will show an alert box akin to "Are you sure you want to leave?" when you try to leave the site. Is it possible to disable this from happening, without using something like the NoScript extension?
I have a server running ubuntu 8.10. I have monitoring software to monitor cerain devices on our LAN & WAN. However I need to set up e-mail on the server to mail me alerts for when something goes down. However this is where the problem comes in. I have never set up any mail clients on ubuntu server and am also not sure which one to use in this case. I have done some reading on squirrel mail and fetchmail. I am also aware there is roundcube and a few others available.
Here's my scenario: We have a mail server located off site. We use XP with Outlook on all our work machines. Outlook connects to the mail server using https with basic ntlm auth. So what I am trying to do is set up mail software to allow my server to send me an e-mail (using the above mail server) to my mail address so I get a mail whenever there's a problem with any of the devices being monitored.
#!/usr/bin/perl use Term::ANSIColor; ####TIME DETAILS ###### print colored ( "PLEASE SPECIFY HOURS FOR THE FILESIZEREPORT TO RUN ", ' bold green on_blue' ); $hrstorun = ;
I want a script that will send me an email when a file is created on a directory. The script will be monitored by cron. It should actually monitor an FTP directory for any uploads to the FTP directory
I have been receiving attack alerts. And I would like to root out the source of the problem. I'll give you the messages. If you could help me prevent this hacker from even being able to attempt these things please any advice is helpful. There have been memory stack attempts, failed sys_admin conversion attempts, password file write attempts etc.....
I have Ubuntu 10.04 and MegaRAID controller. The only tool I have is the notorious MegaCli. I need to be emailed when some disk has failed in the RAID array. How to set that up?
I get no sound for anything, I am running Ubuntu Lucid-amd64. Pulseaudio detects my sound card, and appears to be playing to it when I look at pavucontrol. But I get no sound for anything, not even alerts. I don't eve know how to debug it, because everything I have looked at looks like it should be working. I have checked every mute button I can find, and nothing is muted that I can see. The relevant information for my sound card from lspci -v is:
Does anyone know of any software that can monitor the Apache logs for certain phrases or keywords then send an alert when found? For example I know an attempt to hack has been made when I see log entries like this....
/admin/ /admin/phpadmin/ /phpadmin/
But by the time I see it, the attempt has long since failed or succeeded. What I need is a way for my server to alert me WHILE someone is entering these phrases. I realize there may be a "hit" to performance but my server is not that busy anyway (except for hackers).
I recently setup a server running subversion. It is working well and all, but I am curious as to how to make it send out email alerts to my team when a commit occurs. Also, are their any good GUI tools to manage a subversion server in Ubuntu. The command line is fine since I made some scripts but a nice GUI would be great! Maybe that could be a fun project to work on.
I recently installed Avant Window Navigator and worked fine. My problem is that I don't have on any preferences tab the option to Alert me when Window receive updates. It seems the new version does not have it as previous versions.I was wondering how can I enable the Alerts when Updates are received in windows.PS. I checked all tabs and seems this option is missed.I forgot to mention that I am also new at GNU/Linux.
all I want is for my server to send hardware alerts to the snmp manager.
Is a snmpd.conf like this ok? rwcommunity name1 rocommunity name2 trapcommunity name3 trapsink ip_of_manager syscontact me syslocation my_addr_and_phone
I have recently been asked by my boss to implement Email alerts on some Backup scripts to be sent to me and another person. I edited one of the Backup scripts on a mail server and they appear to be working without problems (i.e., the backup job runs successfully and I get told so via E-Mail). However, when I implemented this script onto another, non-mail server, it would not send E-Mail confirmations. The only server that is allowed to send Emails to the outside world is the mail server, so I did not expect the script to work without any fine-tuning.
However, I thought I could direct the non-mail server to send an E-Mail through the mail server. I just can't find out how to do it. The servers are running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. The mail server is using postfix and dovecot for email, and is also the DNS server for that particular network section. The non-mail server should be installed with the default server install (exim4). If possible, I do not want to install any new programs on either server. How to get the non-mail server to use the mail server to send out E-Mails?
Is there an app that will display a weather warning like how pidgin and empathy display prompts when someone logs on, I would like to be immediately informed if there is a severe weather alert from the weather station in me city.
