Aug 26, 2010Ubuntu restarts every 1 hour and sometimes around 3 am in the morning. It is happening for the past few weeks i didn't find any help for this problem in the net. Please reply if there is any way to find why it is happening or how to stop if from doing an auto reboot

Sep 27, 2010I've just installed subversion.I need to create a script /etc/init.d/svnserve that will start at boot time.I want to use start-stop-daemon --start so I can track my process and eventually kill it using start-stop-daemon --stop.My problem is that I can't get it to work and the documentation shows no exemple.
I've replaced $DAEMON by the whole line: svnserve -d -R -r $REPO_ROOT and got -d is not an option.I'm not quite sure what to do at that point. If someone has some experience with start-stop-daemon it would be great.

Feb 8, 2011i've just installed an ubuntu server 10.10 with drbl and clonezilla everythink seems to works fine, i was able to create a new images and i was able to deploy the new images to 6 pc's at the same time via braodcast, but to deploy again the images after each braodcast session i have to stop and restart the "opt/drbl/sbin/dcs" command.i've reinstalled ubuntu again, i've changed the swicth and tried a new network card but problem still persist.

I have created a daemon which is being run as a system service at boot, and the start command goes well. When I login after boot and check with
service name status
it says it's running and the daemon accepts requests from clients in the network, only the executable it runs as a response to a client request does not work properly.
If I manually restart the service, as with service name restart everything works OK until the next system reboot.
Somehow the context in which the daemon runs is not OK after boot, and it becomes OK after manual restart.

I can start/stop using the following:
sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd start

By default, the daemon loads at boot but I don't want/need it to. I executed the following command thinking it would stop it from loading at boot code...

I would have thought that removing a given kernel package would trigger the removal of the older kernel headers. Can someone confirm that is, or is not, the behavior? I ask this because it seemed to me that the older kernel header packages were indeed removed when I removed some older kernel packages.

I would expect apt-get to automatically also remove linux-headers-2.6.25-2-amd64 and linux-headers-2.6.25-2-common. Is that what will happen, or do I need to explicitly state all three packages on the apt-get remove command?

I have told samba what folder to share and what user to have access to it. As well I have looked at the config file to make sure what was in the gui printed into the config file. Now it is installed, but has no script file or the script file is not in the init.d folder like it should be still trying to figure I have come to the conclusion that the daemons are not installed and am trying to figure out what those script files look like or a way to import them off a ftp, however no luck with google so far. But the scripts files don't exist on my box. how do you install samba daemons when it says samba is already installed.

The whole install process went through but when I restarted the computer it was all glitchy and anything that came on screen would disappear after an instant and then come back. Makes reading anything extremely hard. Realized I only have 256 MB of RAM which is probably a big problem which I understand but I need a solution to fix this.
