I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)
But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)
The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.
Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?
I am using FC14

Suddenly, for no reason apparent to me, on initial logon I don' t have an eth0 connection. I click on the Network Manager icon in the tray, and connect that way. But it would be nice if it connected automagically. How do I fix network to connect on 1st logon?

I need to setup an Ubuntu Server to handle backups over the network (probably rsync over ssh). That server will then transfer the backup data offsite over a secondary external data line. How can I configure the ethernet interfaces to handle such a scenario?

After an update this week I noticed some strange things with the network.
1. The network connection doesn't activate itself automaticaly. Have to do it every time when booted up.
2. At the taskbar icon the previously "Auto eth0" changed to "System eth0". I guess this is kind of connected to the first issue
3. I can't connect anymore to the windows network -Times out (also worked fine before)
How to set it up to the "old" way?

I recently switched from ubuntu to fedora and had a script to mount and umount sshfs when the network changed states. I placed the scripts in /etc/network/if-up.d/ and /etc/network/if-down.d/ and they were run any time the network went up or down. The closest thing I've been able to find is editing the ifup and ifdown scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripting/, but that looks like it would be broken after an update. I'd also rather not use a script with ping because that wouldn't work well when the network goes up and down several times.I've been looking for a while and haven't been able to find a method similar to debian on fedora. Is there something I overlooked?

I'm trying to share internet connection with my wifi capable mobile device. For that I'm creating ad-hoc wifi connection in networkmanager with 'shared to other computers' ipv4 option. And there is the problem - the device cannot get the setting via DHCP. The firewall is adjusted properly by NM, dnsmasq is started. I've looked at dnsmasq arguments string and found that the temporary config file which is provided by NM is empty. So, where else should I look for a possible reason or should I just post a NM bug?

Fresh install of Fedora 14 from Live cd.Used it for an hour or so, d-loaded some programs, had ti all running great. Wired connection to internet. Had the Network Connection Manager icon in panel. There was an icon saying new updates, alot of them, like 400 or so. Told it to go ahead and up date, left room. Came back hour later was done, said it needed to re boot, so I did. From then on, no internet, not icon, no Network Connection in the drop down list for preferences.
What I have tried:Worked off live cd, again, all works fine, icon, manager, internet all there. In installed version: In terminal, typed service Network Manager, it said unrecognized service.Did yum install network manager. It started to do it, but looked like it was trying to get stuff off mirrors, and of course there is no internet access. error PYCURJ ERROR 6.Of course I can re install, but I figure I will just end up in the same place a few hours from now.

Wifi network operated perfectly with f13. Upgrading f13 to f14 did not show any problems except for networking. It seems that the wlan0-link is not ready. Consequently no network information about adresses can be obtained. Tried with network tools to activate wlan0. No reaction Tried to deactivate Networkmanager and bring network up with
service NetworkManager stop
ifconfig -a
Then
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhclient wlan0
No reaction on network. The NetworkManager icon disappears which is understandable.

I have installed recently the Fedora 8 in a computer and during installation it was set a static IP with the netmask and gateway. At first it worked well, but after some boots the connection begins to fail. It seems that the network-manager withdraws the static IP and tries
to get connection via DHCP. Below is the /var/log/messages file during the failed connection:
Code:

Sep 19 10:36:53 canario NetworkManager: <info> SWITCH: terminating current connection 'Auto Ethernet (eth0)' because it's no longer valid.
Sep 19 10:36:53 canario NetworkManager: <info> Deactivating device eth0.

Just replaced a working install of Ubuntu because i like GS over unity but i cant get my USB760 EVDO card to work. The usual fix of editing the cd.rules file and copying some information into modem.fdi does not seem to work on F15..
Also, noticed that when i attempt to create a broadband connection using network manager it allows me to go through all of the setup dialogs, but never actually adds the broadband connection.

I was on my wireless network when I accidently switched on "airplane mode". Several reboots later and I can't get back onto my network. It keeps prompting for a password, even though it's the correct password. I've booted into Mac OSX & Windows on the same laptop and they connect no problems.
How can I delete the network connection to take it from the top again ? You used to be able to right click on the network connection in F14, select "edit connections" and then delete anything that was offending. That seems to have been removed now though ? Where is it stored and where can I kill it ?

I setup my computer to share printers on home network. So I set my F11 PC for manual ip & it works fine for print sharing but now I can't get to the Internet. I noticed under manual settings that every time I set the gateway & try to apply it, it jumps back to all 0's. If I set it to DHCP, I get to the Internet no problem. I just have 2 wireless configs right now 1 for printing & 1 for Internet but it would be a lot easier if I could just use the one manual setting & get it to keep the gateway setting. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. And I do select a manual IP outside the range the router uses for DHCP.

I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...

I have a typical 'linksys' style home wireless router (whose IP is 192.168.0.1) .
If I use DHCP, everything works fine:
Code:
However, if I try to give myself a static IP,
Code:
(I also never understood why the DNS server should not be the real dns server address (some external ip) rather than the router's address? but that is what gets set automatically when using DHCP)
So using manual, it connects, but then the internet doesn't work. The only difference I see when I go to "connection information" when connected with dhcp vs manual is in dhcp mode there is a "default route: 192.168.0.1". Is that the problem? How do I set this "default route" / what is it?

In the process of making the jump from Ubuntu to Fedora and some of the file placement is catching me. Under Debian, I knew how to setup wireless from boot using /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/wpa_supplicant. Now, I know F12 uses /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, but I can't seem to follow the details. Can I use the same commands issued in /etc/network/interfaces in the appropriate /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts file? Can I, basically, copy my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf to /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf?

Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

I'm having a bizarre problem where my network connection stops working randomly. At first I thought it was a DNS issue since Firefox simply chilled out on "Looking up [hostname]" until it timed out, but after further investigation (pinging IP's, "host" and "dig" being unable to reach servers) it became apparent that I couldn't even access the DNS servers i.e. the Wicked Connection of the East was most sincerely dead.
There are two strange things about this: one, there are no errors except "timeout". The network manager is happy, Firefox is happy until the lookup fails... Two, the failures only start *after* DHCP configuration. DHCP configuration never has any trouble sending or receiving packets. I'm going to try static IP and whatnot to see if that helps, more information later.

I have a pppoe adsl connection. When I disconnect and try to reconnect, network-manager keeps asking for my password. I type it again and again with no success. When I reboot, it works again. On ubuntu, I use pppoeconf and it works well. So on Fedora I made a connection with pppoe-setup but neither ifup nor
Code:
pppoe-connect
commands work. When I type
Code:
pppoe-connect
, it says
Code:
/usr/sbin/adsl-start: line 217: 13409 Terminated $CONNECT
"$@" > /dev/null 2>&1
. When I type
Ifup ppp0 doesn't work either. However, with exactly the same settings, ubuntu connects to the internet.

I have this old eMachines on which I've been running RedHat for about 7 years. It is kernel 2.4 and I wanted to upgrade to a newer kernel so I can run a newer version of some server software I use.
I was debating whether to upgrade to Fedora 12 or Ubuntu, and some other person recommended, "definitely Fedora" so here I am.
The CD-ROM downloaded fine. I was able to boot and install Fedora fine. But I'm stuck at the network settings.
None of the screens *quite* match what is in the quick or detailed installation guide at the Fedora site.
The main problem I have is I'm trying to manually set a couple of fixed IP addresses. I am in "Editing System eth0" now. If I switch the method from "Automatic" to "Manual" the Apply button turns greyed out, and stays that way even after I enter the address, netmask, gateway (router address I assume?) and a DNS server address.
