Feb 24, 2010I'm trying to fix this problem: [URL] I have a problem with fglrx driver since Catalyst 9.9. After installation and reboot I get only black screen when X tries to start and keyboard doesn't work however when I press power button then the system shuts down properly after a while. I have noticed this for the first time on Hardy after installing Catalyst 9.9 and since then I have the same problem on Karmic and Catalyst 9.10/9.11 as well. I don't understand the bold text, What is this X he's talking about?

Jul 10, 2009I've just changed from Fedora 8 to Fedora 10 and I'm having trouble installing a special alternative keyboard driver.
I used to be able to put the driver in the xkb/symbols directory, make entries for it in xkb/rules/base.xml and base.lst, and install with the System menu. Now I find that the Gnome tool no longer seems to be using the base files, and my driver doesn't show up.
Does anyone know where Gnome gets its list of drivers from? Alternatively, can I install it by editing a configuration file?

I've tried two copies of a: Microsoft Natural ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0 Both fail. The result is my screen fills up with whatever key was missed. Re-pressing the key does no good. I have to unplug the keyboard and then plug it back in. So, I'm interested to know if this is a general problem or just my system. Meanwhile, I'm turning down the key repetition rate so it doesn't immediately fill my screen when it happens.....

Dec 22, 2009Picked up a Linkskey KVM (LKU-UA02) from my brother for free, thought I'd put it to use. Works fine but after switching between each machine once, the keyboard/mouse does not work. Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).

The shortcuts that DO work are search, CD play/pause/tracks, and Volume.but.. shortcuts for Web browser, email and mute vol don't work. Tried to unplug-plug the keyboard (usb) used System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts disable then Enable still no-go This only happens in /home but when I login /root every shortcut works!Anybody know a posible solution/cause??I am using Fedora 11.

Jul 18, 2010I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

The scroll lock key is the key that turns the back light on/off. Num light works/caps light works, but the scroll lock light does not on F12 or Ubuntu Thinking it may be a soft ware problem after trying different usb slots, I dug out an old XP machine and it works.

Sep 21, 2009recently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.

Apr 8, 2010Got myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

Jun 9, 2010I'm running fedora 13 on a Dell Latitude E6500. It's a dual 64-bit system.
It was working, but then I tried to swap caps lock and control.
I used:
System->Preferences->Keyboard
Layouts->USA->Options
Then, under Control Key Position, I selected swap caps lock and control.
Now, my keyboard won't work in the Keyboard Preferences test area or in any other window or when the screen-lock comes on.
I tried logging out. I tried rebooting. I tried deleting my .gnome2 directory. Nothing seems to work. I can use the keyboard on other accounts, so the keyboard is not the problem.

Sep 1, 2010Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?

Dec 7, 2009I have Fedora 12 right now, and I've come to the conclusion that the ATI catalyst drivers version 9.11 aren't going to work at all on that system, so I was going to downgrade to fedora 10 and install 9.8 or so on it. But what I was wondering is if I install Fedora 10 and then upgrade the kernel will that make the ATI drivers not work? Do I need to turn automatic updates off?

The 640 x 480 video display on my FC12 guest is driving me nuts! The VBox Guest Additions are installed. How do I get FC12 to recognize the VBox video driver?
Extra information:
Auto resize works great on my Windows guests. On FC12, I just get a lot of extra white space.
FC12's installer does not detect a video card. You have to use the stand display option (second one down) to get FC12 to go into a full graphical installer. If you use the regular install, hoping to do a graphical install, FC 12 only install the bare basics. No video support. You get what looks like a rescue cd. No Gnone, no X etc.
I do believe that FC12 has no idea that the VBox's fake video adapter even exists.

Nov 4, 2010I have two monitors - one connected to the VGA port and the other to the DVI port. Fedora seems to be detecting both monitors (figured this out because when I rotate the desktop cube, the second screen is also seen.). However, the monitor on the DVI port is blank. This happens even if I use just one monitor with the DVI port. I cannot install the proprietary nvidia drivers because my computer hangs (has been happening since fedora 11 or 10), Is there a way to get both monitors to work with the nouveau driver?
I faced this problem in Fedora 13 as well and was hoping both screens would work out of the box in F14. Is there any way I can do this to make it work like nvidia's TwinView?
