The scroll lock key is the key that turns the back light on/off. Num light works/caps light works, but the scroll lock light does not on F12 or Ubuntu Thinking it may be a soft ware problem after trying different usb slots, I dug out an old XP machine and it works.
During work computer can stop his work (cursor also can't be moved) and Caps Lock and Scroll Lock are light. What is problem in?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running fedora 13 on a Dell Latitude E6500. It's a dual 64-bit system.
It was working, but then I tried to swap caps lock and control.
I used:
System->Preferences->Keyboard
Layouts->USA->Options
Then, under Control Key Position, I selected swap caps lock and control.
Now, my keyboard won't work in the Keyboard Preferences test area or in any other window or when the screen-lock comes on.
I tried logging out. I tried rebooting. I tried deleting my .gnome2 directory. Nothing seems to work. I can use the keyboard on other accounts, so the keyboard is not the problem.
I have just burned the latest CD using infraRecorder, as per the instructions on this site, however when I boot from this CD, it spends about 5 minutes moving the red balls across my screen, then all of the sudden it just freezes, and my caps and scroll lock lights start to blink. I've had a look in the forums already but there's nothing about this happening on Boot of the live CD.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI`ve recently bought a Genius Slim Star 220 USB keyboard. The problem is that when I switch between keyboard layouts with shift+alt this also triggers scroll lock. I`m running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 kernel 2.6.32-24 EDIT As I`ve just found out it`s not shift+alt that trigger scroll lock, but the fact of changing the keyboard layout. I`ve tried several other hotkey combinations as well as changing layout with the taskbar applet. All the same.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCannot log out of Lucid Lynx. Cap and Scroll lock LED blink and nothing defeats them. I have to shutdown the computer by switching it off.
I removed xorg.conf (which I had installed for screen resolution). After removing it, the shutdown worked well. No more blinking and hangup during shutdown.
But I lost the screen resolution.
I need the screen resolution. how to solve the blink issue. Does it have to do with something in the xorg.conf file causing this?
Can anyone at least clue me in as to what causes the "kernel panic"?
I have to switch from VMWare Server 2.0 to XEN due the compilation of the kernel module fails. But XEN doesn't work on my newly upgraded server (fromm 11.0 to 11.3). When I install XEN via yast and do a reboot, then the screen goes black and the LEDs of Num and Scroll Lock are blinking. The last message i can see before the screen goes black is something like that:

I am using a Linux machine with a KVM switch at work, and I commonly use emacs while switching between that machine and my other machine. I typically use the keyboard shortcut to swap between machines on the KVM, which is the key sequence: Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Up or Down. If I have an emacs window on top on Linux and hit these buttons, it will trap the Scroll Lock key presses and trigger a system beep from the CPU speaker. The KVM still switches, but on occasion, after the switch, it will register Scroll Lock as being stuck pressed, and so I'll be treated to an earful of system beeping. I have to switch back to the computer to get it to stop.Is there something I can put in the .emacs file that will prevent the program from beeping when I hit Scroll Lock with the window on top?

The scenario was this :- I just downloaded the acpi using synaptic package manager. Then installed laptop mode tool using synaptic. cat /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode 0
Means its not yet enabled. But decided to remove it .(read drive spin up and down is not good for HDD) Had left the laptop for some time , it dimmed screen . When I resumed it froze. No mouse movement.only blinking caps and scroll. Just wondering if acpi is the culprit,since haven't seen this behaviour before and it happened after removing laptop mode tools
I have two opensuse 11.3 first with x86 second with x86_64I have connected the KVM and Scroll-lock button works doing "xmodmap -e 'add mod3 = Scroll_Lock'" in a terminal windowIf I do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to the console in both computers, pressing Scroll+lock twice works fine to change between computers but Scroll-lock twice don't works in XWindows runlevel.

I restarted the computer multiple times without issue, and the menu would pop up asking me which os to load. Everything was good. But today I attempted to boot up my computer and nothing happens. The screen just stay black. The lights come on on the laptop, but nothing else. Either I try to boot it and it goes on then off quickly, or it just sits there, still on, with a black screen. I don't know if this is related, but when I was messing around with ubuntu yesterday after I installed it, it would randomly freeze and my caps lock light kept blinking on and off. I was forced to restart when this happened and then everything would be ok.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHave a HP Proliant DL380 which had Ubuntu installed. Have not used it for about 6 months but wanted to resurrect the machine. Switched it on and it would not boot. Went through the usual boot load then would freeze with a flashing scroll and caps lock. Thought I would just re install and recreate the partions but now when I try to install Ubuntu 9 from an offical disc I get the same error. I have attached a screen shot (well photo).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install CentOS 5.3 on a VMWare virtual machine running VMWareServe 1.0.4 build-56528. I have 8 virtual machines that are running some older kernel (RH FedoraCore 4) without any trouble. My system has an AMD Athlon XP 1800 processor and has 1G RAM. Every time during the installation after choosing skip media (I have already checked that the media is OK) I get a kernel OOPS and the capslock and scroll lock keys start blinking. My first guess was that this could be a ACPI issue, so I have disabled ACPI using the acpi=no boot option. The problem persists with the acpi=no option set. During the boot install process, I have seen some messages like this one
ACPI Exception (processor_core-xxxx): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not present [xxxxxxxxx]
I have searched for this issue and found a RedHat Bug 435653 that reports this same issue, but this report is somewhat old, so i think that this issue as already been fixed and reflected to upstream. I have tried also to install using the text mode installation, but the same problem. To further isolate this problem, i have avoided the hardware detection and this was the first time that i have overcome the first screen (test media screen), as i have choosen with the success the language and the keybord layout. After choosing the beyboard layout, the kernel OOPS shows up again. On the screen 4 (debug screen) I don't see any relevant messages.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.
i think the motherboard is cooked but not sure...be4 i call them up and say wtf i want to make sure i have not missed anything (i dont think i have* ok the MO is a MSI g31tm-p21 and the processor is a intel celeron e3300. when i powered it on lights on front panel came on *case has temp readings and fan controls* all of that powered on...the two case fans power on and the processor powers on cd drive powers on and HDD powers on as well so the power box is working there is not a problem with that. i recheck all cabling and its all right i had jumped the cmos a few times now. and with the cmos jumped the M/O would not even TRY to turn on so that was good. it would only turn on when jumped the right away the *keep data* setting took the batt out and waited to let the cmos clear that way. still nothing and i am still getting no post screen. keyboard dos not light up nor dos the mouse

Obviously there would have to be a hidden password or something.
After a 4 to 5 minutes after a succesful instalation of Ubuntu 10.10 the mouse and keyboard freeze. I increased the memory and installed a 500 gb hard drive and still have the problem. a second problem. How do I find this post after a day or so.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.4 and using Virtualbox very intensively to develop under windows. This is the perfect combination: Virtualbox is excellent and gives great speed, functionality and connectability. However, I keep getting a keyboard and mouse 'lock-up' and find that I have to power-down my PC in order to get things working again. The strange thing here is that Ubuntu seems to continue working fine: for example audio keeps playing and the system once successfully finished burning a CD even though keyboard and mouse were frozen.
This happens only very sporadically but is a serious problem because I can't have things freezing when I am in the middle of development or am demoing functionality to a client.At first I thought it was Ubuntu but it only seems to happen when VirtualBox is running so I am wondering whether there is a problem with the keyboard and mouse capture for Virtualbox and that this is causing the problem.I have de-installed and re-installed Virtualbox but this didn't help.So does anyone have a idea how I could either fix this problem or how I could get the system to free the keyboard and mouse when I get a lock-up.
