I'm trying to backup every night a big directory (~2.5Gb) using tar+gzip.I'm calling tar like this:nice -n 19 tar --ignore-failed-read --exclude-tag-all=.kein-backup -Pczpsf '/backup/20100925233802f/archive.tar.gz' '/srv/products'And in 90% of the cases works just fine, in about 20 minutes is everything done. However, if it happens that in those minutes one file or folder from '/srv/products' gets deleted it reports me the following error:tar: /srv/products/prod14564.gif: Cannot stat: No such file or directorytar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errorsDoes it exist a parameter for tar to ignore this kind of errors? View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have created a Bash script with the intent of the program to change the names of the files in a folder's subdirectory.The code recognises the individual subdirectories, then is able to enter into one and list the files individually, but when it tries to change their information it says;' cannot stat ' : ' No such file or directory 'As if it is looking in the directory that contains the Bash script, not its subdirectory.It is essentially saying, I see a file here called FILE but sorry, I can't change FILE because FILE doesn't exist. kweh?Is this something outside the capabilities of Bash? Am I asking too much of it? Can Bash only manipulate files that are in the same folder as the script?

so i have no way to get connected to the internet, what is that error cannot stat `rt3572sta.ko': No such file or directory, I think thats why i can make the wireless card work.
I have very little linux experience. And need some help with a bash script. I need to a script I can set cron to run to sort files out of a holding folder into final folders. It doesn't necessarily have to be bash, but I think it would be sufficient for this. File names are formatted as such when created: Dest-Date-Time-CID-Destination# I want the files to be moved from a all in one holding folder to a folder structure like this.
.../storage/year/month/day/Destination#/VarX(type)/hour/CID/'File'
I would need an if/else if/else statement to say if Dest = A set VarX = B If for example the file name was
infinity-20100927-17:00-1112223333-4445556666.wav
I would like the above file to end up moved from
.../holding
to
.../storage/2010/09/27/4445556666/Inbound/17/1112223333/infinity-20100927-17:00-1112223333-4445556666.wav
So the script will need to make directories based on information in the file name which is delimited by single dashes. Then move files from the holding folder to the newly created "sorted" folders.
I run the following file with the >log.log redirector and it does not capture errors.

I know with windows you can add the 2>&1 to capture error data. Is there such a thing for Linux?

I have some data files that should be distributed with my program. Using dist_pkgdata_DATA in Makefile.am, I get these files installed to /usr/local/data/share/package-name. The problem is that data is read-only, and my program needs to modify it. Playing with dist_sharedstate_DATA, dist_localstate_DATA, dist-data_DATA varibles, I got different installation directories, like /usr/local/com, usr/local/var, but data is always read-only.
How can I distribute modifiable data files with my package? I need some common directory for all users, or maybe local data in a user directory.

I have mounted a windows share folder on /mnt. When i gave any directory within /mnt/ to stat function it fails with errorno 75. perror shows "Value too large for defined data type". Example 1 is fail but Example 2 works fine.
I am having a huge problem checking the data I input to make sure it is correct. So, the problem I am facing is when I input in data such as 11 or A , the prog will come out the right input. But if I were to put in data such as "11A" , the output coming out will be "ALL ARE DIGITS". The problem which causes this seems to be in the return statement , as once as it finds the first char which is a digit, it will then return 1 and not continue checking the rest of the string. Is there a way I can stop or continue a loop if it has met the condition I stated? What I can do or any other way available for me to check my input?

Instead of a steady output of lines to the terminal, output only occurs after a few seconds, between 6 or 12. This happens whether the input is from mplayer or avconv/ffmpeg. This never used to happen (a few years ago) so I wondered whether an awk update caused this to happen.
I'm trying to download a file and extract it in one line, but the extracted file is owned by me instead of root even though I'm using sudo:

I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.
1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).
2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

Write a program that requires the user to input the name of a file as an argument. If the user fails to include one argument it should make use of a thread that handles a signal. The signal handler should tells the user Incorrect number of arguments and then calls the terminate signal on the process.
If the numbers of arguments are correct then the program should allocate memory space to the file (5MB) and create a child process that requests the user for a character that it should send to the parent. The child should keep request for data until the user keys in the character O. During each request it should pause for 10 seconds, send the character to the parent and then requesting again for another character.
The parent should get the character from the child. Do not make the parent wait for the child to finish requesting for data. Make use of pipes to facilitate communication between the parent and the child. A second child should be created to read and display data from the file. Make use of any appropriate Inter Process Communication technique to ensure that the second child and the parent do not access the file simultaneously (Mutual exclusion).

Browsing some websites I've found a code for online form where a user provides name, number, etc. Everything is created in html/javascript. I'm just wondering whether it's possible to collect this input and present it in a database form so that I'd be able to see who's provided data and all the details they entered.Actually, it doesn't have to be a proper database (it would probably require php/mysql). I'm writing a script that takes the date attribute of a file when it was created and appending it to the name. I'm pretty close to what I need, but the date appears in yyyy-mm-dd format and I want it to read mm-dd-yyyy. What I have done so far is something like

I need a script that dose the following checks if files exists by read input from a file then compares them to the files listed in the directory if they don’t exists the script would report back which file dose not exists. I also need to format the output so that files are grouped in different groups, group A, B, and C and etc based on file name. I would like the output of that do not exists files to be sorted based on second number in the file name than group according. I understand some of the basics of bash scripting something along of the lines of a loop and if statements might do the trick. Below is what I have so far. I don’t car so much about the script reporting back the file exists I prefer to only know if the file is missing and is less than 3 days old. Problem is if a file dose not exists in the reports file the test compares against the wrong file.

in bash scripting...say I want to take the input from a user via a question...I would do this:

I have been mucking around with sed to find the tmpfs partition in /etc/fstab and add the partition size attribute (this is to use the onboard RAM as a volatile partition)...but am not having any luck...
The portion of /etc/fstab that uses /dev/shm for the tmpfs partition is:
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
So, if a user says "24" GB to the answer (from above), how do I get it to automatically add that value to the tmpfs partition line in /etc/fstab? So it would look like:
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs size=24g,defaults 0 0
I understand that I would also have to come up with a way to put "size=XXg", which I could do with a copied over generic file before this action...then the script would have to find "XX" and replace it with the user's figure...
I installed OpenCV and am trying the example programs. When I try to compile like in the tutorial it is not finding highgui.h.I have 64 bit Mint if that helps at all
