I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.

1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).

2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

I'm writing a program which now accepts user input:

read gregyr gregmo gregdy greghr gregmn gregsc This lets the user input a date and time, such as 2011 06 21 15 12 45, and have each number assigned to their corresponding variable. Later in the program, these variables are put into an equation, and then the terminal spits out the answer. Now I have to have the program read all of the lines from a text file, which is in this format, assign the variables.

I need a script that dose the following checks if files exists by read input from a file then compares them to the files listed in the directory if they don’t exists the script would report back which file dose not exists. I also need to format the output so that files are grouped in different groups, group A, B, and C and etc based on file name. I would like the output of that do not exists files to be sorted based on second number in the file name than group according. I understand some of the basics of bash scripting something along of the lines of a loop and if statements might do the trick. Below is what I have so far. I don’t car so much about the script reporting back the file exists I prefer to only know if the file is missing and is less than 3 days old. Problem is if a file dose not exists in the reports file the test compares against the wrong file.

I have a text file that is filled with references to duplicate files. I'm trying to create a text file for each duplicate file found that contains the paths to the duplicates. I would also like the text file names to be based on the size and file name.

I need a shell script which gathers the data from a remote XML file and then displays it according to my needs.. I need this for my job due to the fact that I need to keep track price changes of euro, usd, gold, etc. The XML file I am talking about is located at this page: here. The reason I am posting the URL is that I need to use curl to get this file and it does NOT have newlines after each tag. I thought that that would be a problem. I have a huge binary log file. There are lets say 4 id's that I want to find in a log file. I know that those 4 id's will be present in the log file and I also know in what order they will be present. I want to find 1st id from the log then 2nd id and then third id and so on..

Simple/inefficient solution is: Loop through the id's and then grep in the log file. Problem with this solution is for each id grep will search from the beginning of the file.

Better/efficient solution would be: Sine I know the order in which id's will be present in the log file. Loop through id's, grep 1st id and then move on to grep 2nd id and so on...this way I can grep all id's in one pass. Is this solution possible ?

I have 500000 + values to find in log files and I have to find efficient solution for it.

I've got a set of objects (all of the same type). I'm trying to think of a good way to divide it into equivalence classes, with equivalence of two objects defined as meaning a specified set of attributes are equal for both objects. More concretely, I've got:

- a Java class with around 50 fields
- a bunch of instances of the class

I want:

- to divide the instances into a few sets
- in each set, each instance has field 1 - field 5 equal to fields 1-5 of the other instances in the set.

The method I've come up with is to generate a hashcode for each instance based on the hashcodes of fields 1-5*, and map the hashcode to one of my sets. Ignoring problems with potential hashcode collisions (which I'm expecting to be too rare to worry about for now), does that sound reasonable? It seems simple enough, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler method I haven't thought of.

* I'll generate the hashcode using a method based on Eclipse's generic hashcode method, which looks like this:

Or if user is prompted for hometown and he doesn't insert anything, but just pushes ENTER button, 'New-York' sis chosen by default Are such default values possible in bash?

Write a program that requires the user to input the name of a file as an argument. If the user fails to include one argument it should make use of a thread that handles a signal. The signal handler should tells the user Incorrect number of arguments and then calls the terminate signal on the process.

If the numbers of arguments are correct then the program should allocate memory space to the file (5MB) and create a child process that requests the user for a character that it should send to the parent. The child should keep request for data until the user keys in the character O. During each request it should pause for 10 seconds, send the character to the parent and then requesting again for another character.

The parent should get the character from the child. Do not make the parent wait for the child to finish requesting for data. Make use of pipes to facilitate communication between the parent and the child. A second child should be created to read and display data from the file. Make use of any appropriate Inter Process Communication technique to ensure that the second child and the parent do not access the file simultaneously (Mutual exclusion).

What I am attempting to do is rename some television shows into the format that my PVR will understand for the naming convention. I have a script that cleans them up about 95%, now I just cant figure out the last little detail..

For example: NCIS_01.mkv
I think it can be done in sed, but I just figure out how. I need it to be renamed to: NCIS_s01e01.mkv

How can I make sed (or something else) match the last "_" and any numbers after it until the period and then insert text between them reliably?

Depending on the show, it can be something like: This_show_name_243.avi so I need it to be more flexible than I can figure out how to do..

Note that <h2>some text</h2> in some files has 1 or more linebreaks and so I couldn't capture tag content using a simple grep or...
for example:

<h2>first part of text
second line of text</h2>

The line break shouldn't be shown in <!-- TITLE= "same text from h2 tag" -->. The script has to capture tag content & skip line breaks.

Browsing some websites I've found a code for online form where a user provides name, number, etc. Everything is created in html/javascript. I'm just wondering whether it's possible to collect this input and present it in a database form so that I'd be able to see who's provided data and all the details they entered.Actually, it doesn't have to be a proper database (it would probably require php/mysql).
