View 9 RepliesI was trying to compile a new (stable) kernel and got an error when I tried "make xconfi packages and uninstalling 81 packages (will attatch pix once home). I'm using Fedora14 with KDE packages and uninstalling 81 packages. I'm using Fedora14 with KDE so much stuff to get qt-devel?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI found out that to compile my new kernel - which requires 'qmake' - I need to install the "qt-devel" package. Doing so - according to the package manager - would require uninstalling 81 packages and downgrading almost 50 other packages.
I'm running under Fedora 14 w/ KDE and it's asking to remove things like Amarok and OpenOffice. Am I missing a step or something?

I find it incredible that installing and running reputable software such as Clamav on my system should be a major problem. I have openSUSE 11.3 with kde 4.5.2 desktop and when I try and install clamav using Yast the files are downloaded into old kde3 directory and nothing works.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy KDE4 stopped booting after installing the last (11.7) ATI driver and uninstalling it later (display turned off at all while booting).
I get a login screen, though. When I enter my password and press ENTER, it tries to start but returns to the login screen in a couple of seconds. Here's a snippet from kdm.log:

Is there anyway to find the install history log on openSUSE 11.3 KDE4?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed suse kde 4.4 on a new machine using a cd made with suse studio.
I decided to change the login theme. I went into the login manager, downloaded, selected, and applied a new theme. Restarted. Nothing changed. I still had the same old theme pre-installed via suse studio.
I thought it could be a bug with that particular theme. So I downloaded another theme through the login manager. I selected it, and clicked apply. Restarted.... nothing changed...still the old theme.
I thoroughly searched every option in login manager, thinking that I missed a simple setting. Tried everything I could think of. Still same old theme.
So... I decided to delete the theme pre-installed via suse-studio using login manager. Went to the login screen. It changed! But it wasn't the theme I applied. It was a simple theme-less login screen.
Went back to the login manager. I can change the background pic manually, but I can't install any theme!
after fresh install of Opensuse 11.2 and online update, the window decoration settings disappeared from my "configure desktop" appletNow I'm doomed to some default window decorations.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am completely fed up trying to do it. I had no problems with 11.0. It refuses to start up during boot like tor. I added tor to the kde start menu and it works just fine after boot. Privoxy refuses to start up during boot. I have to go into SU mode in terminal, then it works. I need to be able to start Privoxy the same way. I tried everything from chown / chmod commands, and it made no difference. I have it set for 777, and my name along with root. I also added the group privoxy to my user ID. I need the computer to disregard that it is a root program.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't log into my normal user account at bootup; it just bounces back to the login screen.
However, I can log into the user's terminal window from the root account.
I've tried deleting and re-creating the user, but to no avail.
Is there some special file that I could delete before re-creating the user?
The one that holds the (corrupted) authentication data, perhaps?
maybe everything changed while i was stuck in 10.3 but i noticed soonafter install, and am just getting around to asking:i find these directories in the system's root directory very surprising:

I'm encountering a strange problem. I need to open and forward all UDP and TCP ports related to VoIPtelephony (5000:32000) in the Suse 11.1 server that's acting as router/firewall in our setup. The ports must redirect to a Asterisk server in the local network. (This server has the IP adress 192.168.0.3)I've opened ports in Yast (Firewall>Ports>Advanced) and putted in some masquerading rulesirewall>Masquerading):0/0,192.168.0.3,tcp,5000:31000,5000:310000/0,192.168.0.3,udp,5000:31000,5000:31000when I do a nmap localhost I get:Starting Nmap 4.75 at 2010-01-08 16:52 CETInteresting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):

For various reasons I want to completely uninstall Suse 11.3, including the stuff in GRUB, and start again, without upsetting my other distro which is also in the GRUB options. This so I can do a fresh clean inatall when I'm ready.I know I could just reformat the relevant partitions, but I guess that doesn't deal with the GRUB issue?

This at least showed the purpl-ish install screen. After I pressed enter over install, it went to the blank screen again. just black, nothing appeared.I'm not sure what the problem is. My laptop is fairly new, it shouldnt be having an issue to run it.I have 4Gb RAM, plenty of space on the hard drive, and a 1Gb video card...I have no clue what to do, as this is my first encounter with an Linux distro ever. help?
