Ubuntu :: Splash Screen Startup - Goes Blank For A Minute Then Briefly Shows The Splash For 5-10 Seconds
Mar 26, 2011I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu, and on the start-up after I pass the GRUB it goes blank for a minute then briefly shows the splash for 5-10 secs and then jumps to the login screen. Also the screen is offset by about 10-15 pixels but from the login screen onwards it is centred. (It's also like this for if I'm in recovery mode)
How do I fix this and Im wondering if it is a hardware problem?

Jan 11, 2010I don't know what caused it, but as I boot into Ubuntu (9.10), the login screen never appears. Boot splash shows,then the cursor shows up but never the login screen. I haven't found anything that will reset the default gdm or login screen that works.

May 9, 2011I got wireless printing working on my mom's computer... Then when I upgraded the laptop to 11.04 it wouldn't boot properly. It shows the Ubuntu splash and then switches to a console where I can see services starting and stopping. It freezes when it's going through this section of startup. I rebooted and started the machine in recovery mode, then selected low-graphics from the list. It works in low-graphics mode in Ubuntu Classic (my mom doesn't want Unity so I set Classic as the default)

May 6, 2010I'm on HP tx2000 Tablet PC, with nVidia GeForce 6150 Go onboard, 4GB of RAM, Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 Desktop. I keep getting a blank screen after boot splash when I'm on BATTERY POWER. Though I get a blank screen, the screen comes alive when I SUSPEND the laptop by closing the lid, and then RESUME the laptop. Then I can see the logon box and whole desktop.
Usually people get problem by suspending their laptops (usually the screen not coming back after resuming), but now I SOLVE the problem by suspending my laptop. Well like I said I can somehow get the screen right, but I really can't (and don't want to) suspend and resume my laptop every time I boot. Problem occurs REGARDLESS of type of display driver I use. nVidia proprietary, nouveau... whichever driver I use, I get the same conclusion.

Aug 29, 2010I tried Wubi, and all is fine, but when I choose Ubuntu on the boot menu, it shows some dialog, then just blank. its stays blank forever, so I had to shut the computer off.Then, I burned the Ubuntu iso to a CD and botted from it at startup. This at least showed the purpl-ish install screen. After I pressed enter over install, it went to the blank screen again. just black, nothing appeared.I'm not sure what the problem is. My laptop is fairly new, it shouldnt be having an issue to run it.I have 4Gb RAM, plenty of space on the hard drive, and a 1Gb video card...I have no clue what to do, as this is my first encounter with an Linux distro ever. help?

Oct 3, 2010I recently upgraded to 64-bit maverick (from 64-bit lucid) and I'm getting this ugly boot splash now - it's a purple screen with a very basic "ubuntu 10.10" written in terminal font and four dots underneath. I am running a dell xps m1530 with nvidia graphics card, and haven't had any trouble with the boot splash before. I have run the additional hardware drivers utility and it says I have the latest Nvidia driver already loaded apparently.I have looked around the forums and tried a few suggested solutions, like updating the initramfs with the framebuffer=y line but that didn't do anything. I also tried adding a new theme in plymouth and switched to that instead, but it still doesn't come up.

After a while I installed Hackinosh Snow Leopard grub was not there and whenever I tried to boot to ubuntu from Chameleon bootloader it showed an error and told to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart! May 25, 2010Similar problems to mine have popped up elsewhere, but none of the fixes seem to work (or I'm just too stupid). I tried to see what the people at Canonical and elsewhere came up with for Ubuntu 10.4 and, after the live USB checked out fine, I rather foolishly installed the OS on my Acer Aspire One D250 (1GB RAM), to run alongside Windows XP.
It booted up once, I think, and then no more. I believe the problem MIGHT be the Broadcom WiFi stuff, but I'm not sure. Anyway, booting Ubuntu leads to a blank screen with a blinking cursor... which doesn't appear to go away. Recovery mode worked once or twice (had to use ACPI=OFF at least once), then no more. It leads to the same thing: that perpetually blinking cursor.
What I would like is either a fix to get Ubuntu 10.4 launched, or some way to remove the OS and restore my netbook back to what it was. Unfortunately, the MBR fixes that are posted all over cyberspace are useless, as my hidden partition doesn't contain the rtmbr.bin file it needs to work (don't ask me why--I've already posted that question at the AAO user forum). So it seems a fix to launch Ubuntu is the only solution, so that I can at least set grub to launch Windows XP rather than Ubuntu.

Nov 29, 2010i had to reinstall suse coz i mounted my partition to /usr instead of /home. And now i installed some drivers for nvidia gt 320M and restarted the system but it goes blank after the splash screen. how do i get back to the default settings i had? i have a builtin camera in my Acer ASPIRE 4741G laptop. I installed amsn but it only shows a blank screen if i try my webcam.

I then tried to add that space to another partition, "Media." For whatever reason it deleted the "Media" partition so I used TestDisk to restore it. I did something wrong and when I rebooted my computer it would not boot so I used my LiveCD to check whats wrong and it had deleted all of my partitions and Ubuntu was nowhere to be found.
So I used TestDisk again to recover them, this time it was successful. The problem now however is that when I start my computer it does not boot into Ubuntu it just shows a black screen with the white underscore ("_") flashing in the corner. I'm not sure but I don't think it is booting into the correct partition, I think it would be trying to boot the first partition, /dev/sda1, rather than /dev/sda3. If this is the problem how could I fix it?

I need to use unetbootin with parted magic mounted (not sure if that's the right term) to my hard disk rather than a bootable flash drive. So I set everything up, downloaded parted magic ISO, ran unetbootin and selected the file everything installed smoothly. I then restart my computer and unetbootin is indeed in the boot list but when I select it, it remains at a black screen. I left it at the black screen for about ten minutes and nothing happened. I've tried a few times and nothing.

My problem is if the linux try to access the windows 2003 thru network it seems to be nothing happened coz everytime i click the linux network it shows me a blank after a few seconds...
