I find it incredible that installing and running reputable software such as Clamav on my system should be a major problem. I have openSUSE 11.3 with kde 4.5.2 desktop and when I try and install clamav using Yast the files are downloaded into old kde3 directory and nothing works.
View 9 RepliesI downloaded the latest ClamAV (clamav-0.96-27.1.x86_64.rpm) from the opensuse ftp site and when i double-click on the RPM and choose 'install' it says this:[PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.h1Oz1u] Repository already exists.I looked in the software manager in opensuse to see if it has the latest ClamAV package but it doesn't have the latest package or any package of ClamAV.

I get a login screen, though. When I enter my password and press ENTER, it tries to start but returns to the login screen in a couple of seconds. Here's a snippet from kdm.log:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed suse kde 4.4 on a new machine using a cd made with suse studio.
I decided to change the login theme. I went into the login manager, downloaded, selected, and applied a new theme. Restarted. Nothing changed. I still had the same old theme pre-installed via suse studio.
I thought it could be a bug with that particular theme. So I downloaded another theme through the login manager. I selected it, and clicked apply. Restarted.... nothing changed...still the old theme.
I thoroughly searched every option in login manager, thinking that I missed a simple setting. Tried everything I could think of. Still same old theme.
So... I decided to delete the theme pre-installed via suse-studio using login manager. Went to the login screen. It changed! But it wasn't the theme I applied. It was a simple theme-less login screen.
Went back to the login manager. I can change the background pic manually, but I can't install any theme!
After you install and uninstall kde4, okular shows me pdf in blank

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am completely fed up trying to do it. I had no problems with 11.0. It refuses to start up during boot like tor. I added tor to the kde start menu and it works just fine after boot. Privoxy refuses to start up during boot. I have to go into SU mode in terminal, then it works. I need to be able to start Privoxy the same way. I tried everything from chown / chmod commands, and it made no difference. I have it set for 777, and my name along with root. I also added the group privoxy to my user ID. I need the computer to disregard that it is a root program.

However, I can log into the user's terminal window from the root account.
I've tried deleting and re-creating the user, but to no avail.
Is there some special file that I could delete before re-creating the user?
The one that holds the (corrupted) authentication data, perhaps?
maybe everything changed while i was stuck in 10.3 but i noticed soonafter install, and am just getting around to asking:i find these directories in the system's root directory very surprising:
/.config (with one file inside Trolltech.conf, which is empty)
/.kde4

My OpenSUSE 11.2 is working fine as samba server, no problems, but I have a problem with KDM.My default init runlevel is set to 5 and every time I try to login at KDM (KDE4), the monitor goes black and returns to the login screen.If I hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to console and start /usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon manually, press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to KDM login, everything is fine.What do I have to do to fix this issue?

This started happening sometime yesterday afternoon on a server that's been trouble free for years.
My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
I have two servers complaining about ClamAV being outdated:
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.96.1 Recommended version: 0.96.3
Doing an aptitude update says I don't have to upgrade anything. Why is this? Must ClamAV be updated manually?
I have installed Clamav using the install/remove software utility but it doesn't show up in the Applications menu. I tired to run it from usr/bin folder but still no go.

Ive been at it 3 days trying to do something that ought to be simple and everytime i solve one problem another problem arises. at first I removed the old clamav 9.5 or something. I got the latest ubuntu release btw, and Clamav used to work when i first installed it in the previous ubuntu release. anyway, it asked me to upgrade, so since synaptic doesnt have the latest, i downloaded from sourceforge. I did the whole ./configure gave me errors like need build-essentials-- which i then did, error: need zlib.dv--- I did that one too. Now two more errors that i need to fix so I can compile it.

Have got the system to see www and now about to do the mailserver thing. One of the first steps is to install Clamav yet this does not show on the package list for the program add delete gui. Tried yum install clamav and got message back that it wasn't available.
Google advises that I must first install rpmforge but at the same time has a warning from the maker of yum that this is dangerous to do Clamav is clearly a very popular antivirus scanner yet Centos 5 does not include it or allow you to install it?

When I run it live, I see KDE4. When I install it off the same disk, it installs Gnome. I can't figure out how to install KDE4. I had no luck with apt-get install kde4 (E: Couldn't find package kde4), no luck with aptitude, no luck with Synaptic (The following packages have unresolved dependencis kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4).

Anyways I am stuck on the tutorial for installing it in the 'INSTALL' file, where it says to run the command:
