on a fresh install of slackware -current x64, the first thing that i did was download and install opera. now, whenever i start kde, and run opera, X crashes with lots of crazy errors, usually in the format of:
/usr/bin/akonadi*whatever* cannot connect to x server :0
/usr/bin/akonadi*whatever* has crashed too many times and will not be restarted.
and then i get spat back out at the CLI. opera works fine in the other Desktop Environments, and i'm posting from xfce right now, so i know its an issue with akonadi. i would like to use KDE as my default desktop, but i dont want to use it without all of its features
akonadi shows errors (self test) on every startup (on different setups and with different errors) that's very annoying, everything seems to work though, so i just want to get rid of that stupid message (why should an average user of kontact solve mysql problems?). decryption of mails is not working, because of a "wrong passphrase" (says so in the mail body). I was never prompted for a passphrase and kgpg decrypts the msg.asc fine, so its a kmail problem!? the spam / ham buttons are invisible. i added them to the toolbar with no effect (meaning, they are still invisible). Removing of other buttons works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run kmail on Slackware -Current. Kmail starts then akonadi server runs checks.
Then follow many errors:
I've reinstalled MySQL and it seems to be working but there is this error repeatedly:
I've done some Google searches but I'm not able to find a solution to get akonadi to work.

Say if I want to install openssh in traditional way with ./configure then make and make install which works fine in Fedora but not in Ubuntu as it gives error for a Mailer program when ran ./configure, as sendmail is by default installed in Fedora but not in Ubuntu. What I need to know is how yum/apt-get resolve this dependency problem? Is there any file in the OS where it's listed all the dependencies along with the package names like in Redhat installation CD there are some XML files where it lists all the packages along with their dependencies.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up my computer I always get the Akonadi message window with some errors. If I just close it, launch "akonadi configuration" and ask for a test, some of the errors have already disappeared. It looks like the first test is made too soon, before everything is running. It's not a big issue but I would like to get rid of the akonadi warnings window. Does anybody know how?

So how to configure Kmail to read and delete local mail sent by other users or by system or apps ?
I installed Vista in VirtualBox 2 days ago and all has been well since. However I just started VB tonight and although it started up ok, when I clicked on Start (Vista) I get the following pop-ups.
Although one of the errors appears to say what I should do, I don't understand it
Could somebody tell me what I need to do to fix it please? Preferably in English
I've had a lot of success over the past year with Ubuntu 10.4; however, recently I've been experiencing nothing but problems. It all started with an upgrade a month ago that caused me to experience a boot error. Now every time I re-install the system, I will have a random boot error. I have been trying to install the system on a friend's computer and getting the same thing. I've tried a different download and burned different discs, but I am still experiencing problems with the system having a boot error. Sometimes it is immediate after installation and other times it might boot fine for a day or two and then suddenly it will no longer boot. Is there some kind of bug with 10.4 now? I never, never had this hard of a time with Ubuntu. I've installed it on several computers for myself and other people.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad SL510, with a "Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)" wireless adapter, on Ubuntu 11.04 x64. When I run updates, I get many resolve errors "Something wicked happened resolving us.archive.ubuntu.com," and other errors like that. Also, the internet connection runs incredibly slowly, and a lot of my downloads through firefox freeze and fail. I'm wondering if all of these problems are connected. Here are the contents of /etc/resolv.conf

I recently upgraded my SuSE 11.2 to KDE4.4 from "download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2/". Most things run fine, however the "Akonadi Control Center" does not appear in my KDE "System Settings". Akonadi itself seems to run, at least Contact uses it for the addresses.
I searched for all "akonadi" packages, but I didn't find ones which I do not have installed.
Has anyone had this issue? Tonight, when I started KMail I got a crash of the Akonadi maildir resource agent. Everything was fine in the morning, I didn't change anything or mess about, just a normal session. The crash report will go away if I close it 5 times or so. I have seen the problem in a couple of fora, apparently the best workaround is to rename the relevant file in /usr/bin (the file named akonadi_maildir_resource). Kmail is now functioning properly (I gather it is not yet fully integrated with Akonadi, so it shouldn't matter too much). I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and any solutions you might have.
I tried submitting a bug report via the automated process; unfortunately, when I tried downloading the debug tools I got stuck on an error in downloading the repo data from the update repository:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download ./repodata/cefcc9d56264aa169f70a53c560ffc39cb6af575-deltainfo.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.3
I assume the repo update issue is a temporary mistake in the update process? Send me any thoughts on the akonadi issue, please!
When I started my session, a box saying: "An error occurred the startup of the Akonadi server. The following self-tests are supposed to help to tracking down and solving the problem. When requesting support or reporting bugs, please always include this report:

What can I do to solve this problem?
I'm trying to troubleshoot some strange networking problems. The pattern seems to be that only newer distributions are affected. CentOS 5.4 and Ubuntu 8.04 work fine out-of-the-box. But Arch, Sidux, AntiX, Fedora, etc. show the same pattern of errors.Certain websites cannot be found unless I disable ipv6 in Firefox. And certain addresses cannot be resolved using various terminal commands (wget, apt-get, yum, etc.). What I would ideally like is a permanent solution, perhaps changing some settings on my router, so that I don't have to deal with this each time I test-drive a new distro. I have a hunch the issue has something to do with my DSL provider (Fairpoint) filing for bankruptcy.
One more piece of information that may or may not be relevant: I recently switched a website from one hosting company to another. I noticed there was a delay of several days where I saw the old version at the old host, but viewing the site at a friend's house or the coffee shop showed the new site on the new host. This leads me to suspect DNS issues perhaps, but this is not an area of expertise.
I start Kmail, Akonadi tries to start a server and it fails (I removed the first 5 tests that were correct because otherwise this post would be to long). This is the report it gives:
[code]...
What can I do to let it start correctly, or is there a way to disable Akonadi? It's very annoying that every time I start Kmail, Akonadi attempts to start.
I run opensuse 11.3/KDE:Factory. Recently, kmail updated to using akonadi. The following problem came up. My local emails are now managed by a "local folders" component of akonadi. The folder structure is displayed correctly in Kmail. However, no emails are shown for some folders. Emails still live in the .kde4/share/app/kmail directory hierarchy and can be imported into a new folder after moving them somewhere else. However, even after a fresh import sometimes emails are no longer recognized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to set a default for new users for the akonadi mysql.conf file that is created for each user for the akonadi database. Usually this file contains a inno_db_log_file_size of 64MB. Because of this the database eats up 64MB storage even if its still empty. I would like to decrease this size globally for each "new" user since we have very tight storage restrictions on our NFS home directories now. And 64MB make up already have the quota each user has. So this is to much. where is this default mysql.conf file taken from?
I found hints that there used to be a /usr/share/config/akonadi/mysql-global.conf file that was simply copied but I cannot find such a file on my 11.4 system. It seems things have changed. how akonadis user specific mysql.conf file in ~/.local/share/akonadi/ is generated for a new user? How can I use my own template file here?

since the last SuSE online update (last Wednesday?) the X server no longer starts on our notebook (ATI HD 4200) so we only have the consoles available, which limits the WAF heavily . We were using SuSE 11.3 with the Gnome desktop for about one months and it worked smoothly, but since the update (which included a kernel update to 2.6.34.7-0.7) the X server tries to start 5 times and then gives up. All logfiles end with:
Code:

I used the ati driver ati-fglrxG02-kmp-desktop, version 8.762_k2.6.34.0_12-31.1 from the ATI Suse repository. To solve the problem I already switched to the Xorg driver which lead to a color distorted display but no segmentation fault. But I'd like to get the ati driver running again.
I have been plagued by problems with KMail. Sometimes Akonadi server fails to start:

In 11.3 Compiz .8.x worked fine but not .9.x
In 11.4 "compiz --replace" displays no error messages, but starts up with no window decorations.
In ccsm window decorations, kde comparability, OpenGL and composting are all checked. Even tried as a different user after rm'ing the compiz-1 folder.
Composting using Kwin works fine.
dear, in centos / fedora, I can config to start a permanent vnc session by setting the /etc/sysconfig/vncserver file when the system starts. Is there any similar configuration in opensuse which give me a permanent session?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with LibreOffice 3.3.3.1 (from the libreoffice stable repository) and some (not all!) .doc files. When opening some .doc files LibreOffices starts and directly closes . The same problem occurs (for the same files) with LibreOffice from the unstable repository. When I go back to the LibreOffice version (3.3.1) shiped with 11.4. everything works fine. Hence, if you have problems with some .doc files downgrade to 3.3.1.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried two distros - Mandriva and OpenSuse. Both provide the same results, though Mandriva booted...but still the same problem, after installing blank screen comes up and nothing. Keyboard touch bad, mouse nothing happens. I would prefer openSuse but may have to switch.
Equipment:
Acer 7740 17" laptop
Intel i3-330M Chipset
4Gig DDR3 RAM 1066
Intel Integrated HD Video 128MB
Install Win7 64-Bit no issues, wiped and installed Linux and I cannot get past this blank screen. Installation works, no problem installed packages etc. When coming up on 1st boot, login - boom nothing? Searching the web and I suspect the Intel graphics are the problem but I'm not sure.
I bought this laptop to put Linux on it solely for a personal project of using Linux for a year. I'm an IT professional for 23 years and comfortable with CLI.
I'm using Fedora 14. I need to install an older version of MySQL for some testing at work. To do so, I go to remove the existing MySQL 5.1.x that is installed - a dependency of Akonadi. Well, the ensuing chain of dependencies ended up essentially killing KDE. I don't suppose there is a convenient way to get KDE back without Akonadi? I really don't care if I have PIM storage services.
