What can I do to let it start correctly, or is there a way to disable Akonadi? It's very annoying that every time I start Kmail, Akonadi attempts to start.

I recently upgraded my SuSE 11.2 to KDE4.4 from "download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2/". Most things run fine, however the "Akonadi Control Center" does not appear in my KDE "System Settings". Akonadi itself seems to run, at least Contact uses it for the addresses.
I searched for all "akonadi" packages, but I didn't find ones which I do not have installed.
When I start up my computer I always get the Akonadi message window with some errors. If I just close it, launch "akonadi configuration" and ask for a test, some of the errors have already disappeared. It looks like the first test is made too soon, before everything is running. It's not a big issue but I would like to get rid of the akonadi warnings window. Does anybody know how?

After doing those steps the Akonadi server still shows a window with errors on startup. As far as I remember the ~/.xsession-errors file contains an error like "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket /home/alexander/<some path that I forget, sorry>/mysql.socket.

I have installed Kubuntu 10.10 on a macbook3.1 and everything (almost) is working fine. My sole problem is that the left control key, despite being mapped to:
keycode 37 = Control_L NoSymbol Control_L NoSymbol Control_L
and having the right behavior in the terminal, does nothing on most other applications, like kate, money managers, intelliJ, etc.
It does work properly also on Google Chrome.
I have been working with F13 since last summer and Kontact/Akonadi worked fine all this time. Two weeks ago, more or less, Akonadi started to crash every time I tried to start it. Therefore I can use Kmail but without geting access to my contacts, since I put them on a resource controlled by Akonadi.

I have an older version of ggv on RHEL for viewing PostScript (.ps) files, but the binary I have refuses to open files from AFS. ggv-2.12.0 is able to open these files from AFS just fine on my Mac. I was not able to find packaged binaries for RHEL 5 or 6 for ggv-2.12.0, so I downloaded the source and compiled it. Unfortunately, it fails to start, printing these error messages:

View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anyone had this issue? Tonight, when I started KMail I got a crash of the Akonadi maildir resource agent. Everything was fine in the morning, I didn't change anything or mess about, just a normal session.The crash report will go away if I close it 5 times or so. I have seen the problem in a couple of fora, apparently the best workaround is to rename the relevant file in /usr/bin (the file named akonadi_maildir_resource). Kmail is now functioning properly (I gather it is not yet fully integrated with Akonadi, so it shouldn't matter too much). I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and any solutions you might have.
I tried submitting a bug report via the automated process; unfortunately, when I tried downloading the debug tools I got stuck on an error in downloading the repo data from the update repository:

Laptop is Dell Latitude C600/C500 with Pentium III 850Mhz, 256Kb L2 Cache, 256MB RAM, ATI M3 video card, HD 20005 MB and sound card is EES Maestro 3i. After trying to do something with Windows 2000 which was installed on the machine, I decided to put Linux without keeping windows on the machine. First I try with Xubuntu (latest version) which was working but slowly, then I found that Debian could work fine on that machine. I have installed latest version 5.08 and was surprised how goodly old machine can work. I solved problems with screen resolution (change from 800x600 to 1024x768) but I couldn't find solution how to fix problem with sound.
Actually I don't have sound on the machine. I looked for a linux driver for that sound card and Dell is only providing windows drivers. Then I found that I can solve the problem with ALSA drivers but I couldn't find the easy way (or any way at all) to install drivers and to get back the sound. When I click on 'Volume Control' (top right corner of the screen) I get the message: 'Volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.'
I'm having trouble with Yast, I noticed today that I can't open the control centre from the desktop (along with install/remove software) when opening from the command line I get. the following output:

Yast2 control centre opens, but none of the options load when selected. I have tried updating everything through Zypper which didn't work. (aka zypper ref/up etc). Then I tried removing yast and installing it again. When I did this (and downloaded the Yast control centre again the above errors, reappeared.
i am one gnome-user, but need to set up kde/Kubuntu/Mint 9 KDE on my wifes computer. So, i have few questions:
1) how to make kde not to start/memorize previous session after reboot?
2) in gnome-power-manager i can read Battery Health (mAh, Design Capacity...)-something like that in KDE? In KDE Power manager i have no such readings.
3) is there some cleaning tool as for gnome ubuntu-tweak?

I run opensuse 11.3/KDE:Factory. Recently, kmail updated to using akonadi. The following problem came up. My local emails are now managed by a "local folders" component of akonadi. The folder structure is displayed correctly in Kmail. However, no emails are shown for some folders. Emails still live in the .kde4/share/app/kmail directory hierarchy and can be imported into a new folder after moving them somewhere else. However, even after a fresh import sometimes emails are no longer recognized.

This usually happens when your computer does not shutdown correctly, shutdown without unmounting/removing usb. Please run the chkdsk /r" I already ran that many times nothing happens. View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed madwifi on my MSI laptop with an Atheros AR5001 wifi card & Lucid. As far as I can see and according to System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers the install was successful and the card + driver is up and running. However, I don't see any wireless network (my windows PC can see about 5 wireless networks). I tried it with the network manager applet as well as with wicd. If I try to connect to "Hidden Wireless Network" via nm-applet, it will start to connect for a while but is unable too (although I supply it with the correct WEP settings & key) So, I'm unable to use my wireless network. What am i doing wrong?

Recently I installed gcc-4.3.4 on my suse 11.3( I had to install it because matlab mex compiler was supported uptill gcc-4.3.4. ). View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to set a default for new users for the akonadi mysql.conf file that is created for each user for the akonadi database. Usually this file contains a inno_db_log_file_size of 64MB. Because of this the database eats up 64MB storage even if its still empty. I would like to decrease this size globally for each "new" user since we have very tight storage restrictions on our NFS home directories now. And 64MB make up already have the quota each user has. So this is to much. where is this default mysql.conf file taken from?
I found hints that there used to be a /usr/share/config/akonadi/mysql-global.conf file that was simply copied but I cannot find such a file on my 11.4 system. It seems things have changed. how akonadis user specific mysql.conf file in ~/.local/share/akonadi/ is generated for a new user? How can I use my own template file here?
I recently got the last round of updates, including linux kernel 2.6.32.26. after several programs froze up (i hadn't restarted since the update) i restarted only to find that Gnome starts up into a different look than I had it setup to (normally with a custom theme and without a login prompt). it now starts with a more basic theme and a login prompt which won't accept my password. something similar had happened before and i fixed it by booting into recovery mode and running dpkg, and having to reboot more than once but it returned to normal. I tried running it again and it hasn't worked, so I must ask for advice. I am working from Fedora 10 on the same computer.
