OpenSUSE :: Akonadi Warnings Always Appear At Start Up
Apr 27, 2010
When I start up my computer I always get the Akonadi message window with some errors. If I just close it, launch "akonadi configuration" and ask for a test, some of the errors have already disappeared. It looks like the first test is made too soon, before everything is running. It's not a big issue but I would like to get rid of the akonadi warnings window. Does anybody know how?

I start Kmail, Akonadi tries to start a server and it fails (I removed the first 5 tests that were correct because otherwise this post would be to long). This is the report it gives:
[code]...
What can I do to let it start correctly, or is there a way to disable Akonadi? It's very annoying that every time I start Kmail, Akonadi attempts to start.

the Akonadi server won't start correctly on KDE startup. I've not found the 100%-working solution for this problem yet. It seems like many Slackware users just remove the akonadi package Unfortunately, I don't have the access to my Slackware box right now, Here is what I've tried to do so far: 1) Make the mysql daemon executable:
[code]...
After doing those steps the Akonadi server still shows a window with errors on startup. As far as I remember the ~/.xsession-errors file contains an error like "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket /home/alexander/<some path that I forget, sorry>/mysql.socket.

Akonadi can't run when log as user root due to mysql protection :
Code:
[akonadiserver] Found mysql_install_db: "/usr/bin/mysql_install_db"
[akonadiserver] Found mysqlcheck: "/usr/bin/mysqlcheck"
[akonadiserver] Database process exited unexpectedly during initial connection!
[akonadiserver] executable: "/usr/sbin/mysqld"
[Code].....
So how to configure Kmail to read and delete local mail sent by other users or by system or apps ?

I recently upgraded my SuSE 11.2 to KDE4.4 from "download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2/". Most things run fine, however the "Akonadi Control Center" does not appear in my KDE "System Settings". Akonadi itself seems to run, at least Contact uses it for the addresses.
I searched for all "akonadi" packages, but I didn't find ones which I do not have installed.

Has anyone had this issue? Tonight, when I started KMail I got a crash of the Akonadi maildir resource agent. Everything was fine in the morning, I didn't change anything or mess about, just a normal session. The crash report will go away if I close it 5 times or so. I have seen the problem in a couple of fora, apparently the best workaround is to rename the relevant file in /usr/bin (the file named akonadi_maildir_resource). Kmail is now functioning properly (I gather it is not yet fully integrated with Akonadi, so it shouldn't matter too much). I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem, and any solutions you might have.
I tried submitting a bug report via the automated process; unfortunately, when I tried downloading the debug tools I got stuck on an error in downloading the repo data from the update repository:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download ./repodata/cefcc9d56264aa169f70a53c560ffc39cb6af575-deltainfo.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.3
I assume the repo update issue is a temporary mistake in the update process? Send me any thoughts on the akonadi issue, please!

Finally got around to updating from 2.6.31.8 and was surprised at the slew of warnings issued during the install. Rather than post them here, see:
pastebin - Someone - post number 1792805
I would have bet money that the machine wouldn't boot after this, but it in fact did (whew). Since the kmp modules were not updated with this new kernel, I have merely suspicions....any one have the real reason for these warnings? Same type of warnings occured (thou I didn't copy the output) when I installed the ATI prop driver rpm. everything seems to work as normal so far, but it was so very different than many previous updates that I'm a bit leery.

Though my upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 went pretty well (X and apparmor/samba config to renew), I have a bunch of warnings at boot time. Sample: "* wil be removed in a future UDEV version..." On another box, I get some "/etc/*/ipv6" should have a .conf file. Should I worry / fix up something before next upgrade?

I put a few Itunes songs into my music folder and tried to play them. It didn't. Then, I got to reading in the forums and noticed that there was a "one click" configuration for Gnome users. After doing some more reading, I saw a lot of references to restricted codecs and things of that nature. After beginning the one-click process and then aborting midway through installation, three questions come to mind:
1) Why all the warnings about legalities of downloading the codecs/files? If I bought the music and I use the codecs to listen to it, where does legalities come into play?
2) While installing some of the different files, etc in the one-click process, I received a few warnings that a particular file was not from a trusted source (I don't remember the info verbatim) and then it gave me an email address, presumably from the developer, and asked if I wanted to install it anyway.
3) If I do go through the one-click process, will I be able to listen to I-tunes or am I pretty much screwed on I-tunes on linux?

I run opensuse 11.3/KDE:Factory. Recently, kmail updated to using akonadi. The following problem came up. My local emails are now managed by a "local folders" component of akonadi. The folder structure is displayed correctly in Kmail. However, no emails are shown for some folders. Emails still live in the .kde4/share/app/kmail directory hierarchy and can be imported into a new folder after moving them somewhere else. However, even after a fresh import sometimes emails are no longer recognized.

I am looking for a way to set a default for new users for the akonadi mysql.conf file that is created for each user for the akonadi database. Usually this file contains a inno_db_log_file_size of 64MB. Because of this the database eats up 64MB storage even if its still empty. I would like to decrease this size globally for each "new" user since we have very tight storage restrictions on our NFS home directories now. And 64MB make up already have the quota each user has. So this is to much. where is this default mysql.conf file taken from?
I found hints that there used to be a /usr/share/config/akonadi/mysql-global.conf file that was simply copied but I cannot find such a file on my 11.4 system. It seems things have changed. how akonadis user specific mysql.conf file in ~/.local/share/akonadi/ is generated for a new user? How can I use my own template file here?

I'm using Fedora 14. I need to install an older version of MySQL for some testing at work. To do so, I go to remove the existing MySQL 5.1.x that is installed - a dependency of Akonadi. Well, the ensuing chain of dependencies ended up essentially killing KDE. I don't suppose there is a convenient way to get KDE back without Akonadi? I really don't care if I have PIM storage services.

I've been trying to understand issues that occur during a uClinux distribution build (so I can include such issues in a module I'm writing for students). My process has been to work through errors that occur due to missing packages, then remove the distribution and build it again to uncover what happens. One thing I notice is different sets of warnings within each iteration of making a new build. From the document here (URl...it states, "A typical warning involves a variable being used before its value has been set."
So my question: is there a way to verify that the issue throwing the warning has been resolved by the end of the make build? And, is running make build again an option or could this cause problems within the build directories or image?

You should be running a firewall. I would also periodically check for rootkits with rkhunter and chkrootkit. Antivirus is usually optional, but it depends on your network ... if you have Window$ machines, do use clamav or something.Hope I'm not distorting the thread but just ran rkhunter and got a lot of red warnings, especially worrying seems:

I've already been through all the KDE documentation, and they're outdated when it comes to Akonadi and Nepomuk in Natty.
I've disabled Desktop Search in System Settings, which is supposed to disable Nepomuk. For some reason, nepomukserver and akonadiserver along with about twelve other memory-sucking processes autostart and have to be manually killed after my upgrade to Natty.
I can't simply remove all packages that contain akonadi in the name; one of its dependencies is kubuntu-desktop, which would suck to remove.

There is a known bug with MySQL 5.1.42 that prohibits the QMYSQL driver from functioning properly. I finally found it on the MythTV bug tracker, which links it to the MySQL site. There is a patch available, but the bug was fixed in 5.1.43. To fix it on my system, I grabbed the all of -current/source/ap/mysql except for the actual source, and downloaded the latest version (5.1.44) from [URL].

Last night I received the classic rkhunter's email with several warnings inside:
Quote:
Warning:
Warning:
Warning:
and so on..
Why rkhunter isn't able to calculate the hash of those files and compare it with the stored one?
Other strange thing: for the "good" file, the hash is often different!
For example, in the last rkhunter.log, /bin/awk is "good".
But:

So, if the sha1sum is different, why rkhunter tell me that awk is secure?
