OpenSUSE :: Octave: Dmperm: Not Available

Mar 24, 2011

To anyone who got octave: The issue: whenever I call the function "dmperm", it gives me the following

Code:
error: dmperm: not available in this version of Octave
Typing dmperm(3) gives that. However, dmperm alone gives some instructions on how to use this. So it is seemingly there.

Getting the same thing? What I got is octave 3.4.0, on openSUSE 11.4 x86-64. I tried with the one in repos contrib, the one in packman, and the one in contrib:Factory. Same outcome. It could be that there is some missing dependencies that were not specified by the packager, perhaps. This older post Octave - General - dmperm mentioned some packages. Things I did not have I got installed: libumfpack5 umfpack-devel bison flex I could not install "umfpack" as such. It is a source package. It still does not work..........

OpenSUSE :: Octave: Error While Loading Shared Libraries

Nov 10, 2009

I installed octave in my OpenSUSE 11.2 KDE system from Yast. When I launch it with the command "octave" on my shell, this is the message I receive: "octave: error while loading shared libraries: liboctave.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". What's the problem? Is it a known problem to be solved in the 11.2 RC2 or I have to do something else?

Software :: Octave (v3.2): Initialize Vector/matrix Without Screen Output

Oct 22, 2010

I have recently installed Octave on my desktop and I am very busy with RTFM ATM.However, this manual is huge and I could not find an answer to my problem. What I basically want to do is initialize a vector like

Code:

a=[]
for i 1:100
a = [ a i ]
endfor

Now my problem is that this will call the pager and I have to hit 'q' to get my prompt back. I know I can turn it off but the screen will still get cluttered with tons of output. Is there a way to initialize 'a' quietly without any screen output?

OpenSUSE :: Opensuse 11.4/gnome - Most Gui Apps Not Working With Gtk Error - Cannot Open Display: ::1:1.0

Jun 22, 2011

I recently installed opensuse 11.4 on a remote server. It has GNOME installed as a desktop. The problem I am experiencing is that when logged in through VNC, most of the GUI apps are not functioning, especially ones that require root privs. Example: The Add/Create users context does not function. After you supply root pw, nothing happens. If you launch it from a terminal, you see this:

jjmuw@g01:~> xdg-su -c /sbin/yast2 users
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "::1:1.0".

Followed by a hang. This is also affecting things like the Xen configuration contexts (creating/managing VMs).

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller On OpenSuse 11.1?

Jan 10, 2009

I am having some problems getting the onboard sound card on my Intel DP45SG motherboard to work properly under openSuse 11.1. Yast appears to have detected the card as a 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller, but I cannot get any sound out of the card at all.

I have tried to follow this thread, and have run the alsa-info script, the results of which are posted here. It appears to me that the codec that is listed in the alsa script, which is the IDT 92HD73E1X5, is not the same as that which is listed on Intel's site for this board, which is the IDT 92HD73E codec. Can anyone help me out with regards to getting this going? Additional info below:

OpenSUSE Install :: Unplug Windows Hard Drive While OpenSUSE Installs?

Jun 14, 2010

I want to dual boot openSUSE 11.2 and Windows 7. I already have Windows 7 installed but I have encountered multiple issues in the past with trying to make dual boots. Usually when I install Linux, GRUB decides it wants to go into world domination mode, and "breaks" my Windows installation. I have reason to believe this is because the distros I use come with legacy GRUB, (v0.97) and for some odd reason it lacks commands such as "update-grub" etc. This means I cannot add Windows 7 to the boot menu without going into extreme complications, which have NEVER, I repeat NEVER succeeded. When I boot the Windows drive directly, I get some error about GRUB not finding the device, and it puts me into a grub rescue command line. Now I am no expert in this field at all, but wouldn't that mean that GRUB wrote itself to the MBR of...oh I don't know, ALL of my hard drives? I really want to install openSUSE 11.2, but from bad experience I am really put off as I know that it ships with legacy GRUB v0.97.I am also running Fedora 13 at the moment, I have quite an experimental dual boot running..been trying to get GRUB 2 for hours now, it is definitely there but no commands work, "upgrade-grub-from-legacy" and "update-grub" return with command not found. I've heard this is just a bug but can anybody confirm that there will definitely be a way for me to "fix" my windows installation after it gets "broken" by GRUB?Second idea, unplug my windows hard drive while openSUSE installs?

OpenSUSE Install :: Option (Installation Regarding To Opensuse And Windows Server 2008?

Mar 20, 2011

right now, my machine runs ubuntu 10.10 due to work issue, i need to use windows server 2008 R2 (its a windows exclusive company) but i never used any of the active directory or anything from the windows server (only experience with windows is visual studio and those GAMES!), so i figure i need to practice a bit on my own b4 starting the job and just at the same time I found out as a univ student i get it for free! And plus, I am finding opensuse a better option for me than ubuntu So im wondering what i should do regarding these 2 systems here s some option

1). Install openSuse 11.4, and install VirtualBox and use windows server 2008 R2 on vbox
2). Install windows server 2008 R2 and then install openSuse alongside with it
3). Install windows server 2008 R2 and install openSuse in virtualBox

I have been using linux as my primary OS for more than a year now and I rlly need it for both school and my own entertainment. So wondering which option would best work out for me

wat are your opinions? PS: my machine is about 2 years ago a Dell laptop, with core 2 duo p8700 (2.53ghz) 4GB ram, and nvidia gfx, which even tho is still fast, but isnt rlly that snappy when it comes to virtualization even running xp in a virtual machine is quite laggy at times :S

OpenSUSE Install :: KDE Too Slow On Start Up. OpenSUSE-WindowsXP Dual Boot?

Jul 18, 2011

I have an 1TB hard drive, half of it for Windows XP SP3, another half for OpenSUSE 11.4. After installing OpenSUSE, it didn't take me much time to notice that there was something wrong with KDE: sometimes it loaded quite fast, as expected, but most of the time I'd have to wait around 1 minute in that loading screen. Then I updated the kernel, as well as KDE itself, but that didn't solve the problem.

After that I tried to start the system using Enlightnment, and it was lightning fast compared to KDE, however, I didn't quite like its interface, and for some reason GNOME refused to start. All that was too frustrating to me, so I gave up and have been using Windows for the last few weeks. Got sick of it now and here I am on OpenSUSE again. Oh, it feels sooo much better! BUT, I'm still with the same problem.

My specs are as follow:
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H (with updated BIOS, version F11)
Processor: AMD Phenom X3 8450
Memory: 2GB
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT (using NVIDIA proprietary drivers)
OpenSUSE 11.4
KDE 4.6.0
Did I forget anything important?

Ps.: I didn't have these problems with Mandriva 2010.2, which, if I'm correct, used the same KDE version.
