I'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.
I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.

When I was in Win XP I was happy with iTunes; now in OSuse 11.2 it has been difficult to find a functional replacement for it. Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)

I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

I use openSUSE 11.4 64 bits, KDE, FireFox 5.0 for browser.Graphics card : nVidia GeForce 9500 GT.
However, when I want to see embedded movies, e.g. in my newspaper, or looking for a hotel, either I get the message : you have no flash plug-in installed, or I get a black screen with a cross in it.
Before that I tried to :

I have problem with downloading files from web page of my school. When I click on download, it will ask for location to save and when I choose one (for example home or desktop), the page freezes, but firefox is still running, so I just have to close the tab. I tried it also with chromium with same result, but it produced some error log. I tried flash player 10.3 and 10.2 - same result. I also tried installing flash-player-gnome, but no luck. On linux mint 9 64-bit everything works perfectly.note: flash player can play movies (for example on .....). I can download files, that aren't downloaded with flash player.error log:

i just installed 11.2 and i do not get any audio from flash movies (e.g. videos). (startup sound and amarok work ok). interestingly i do manage to get sound out of flash in a particular circumstance:
* i install 11.2 from the livecd using default settings.
* at the end of the process i log in as a normal user
* in a console as super user i run "zypper install flash-player"
* flash-player and nspluginwrapper get installed (nothing else)
* i start firefox and i am able to play flash movies with sound from videos
* i reboot and log in as a normal user
* i start firefox and now flash movies from videos play without sound
I just reinstalled my laptop with OpenSUSE 11.4, 64-bit and I'm using gnome 3.0, I can't figure out how to change the default video player to vlc though...I've tried going to 'Applications' --> 'System Tools' --> 'System Settings' --> 'System info'Here I can choose default programs, however vlc does not appear in the drop-down menu for videos. I do have vlc installed. I can choose to play videos with it when I right-click video files. But I'd like vlc to be the default so that I can just double click the video file and vlc plays it.It is a little bit confusing as totem is set as the default video player in the above-mentioned window, but when I double click a video file banshee starts

Flash version 10.1.102, chrome version 6.0.472 So, my problem is that after a long while of having the browser open (any), flash player stops working properly (it's hard to describe but in ..... for example, the image and sound freeze for 5 seconds, in the next second everything happens at once, freezes 5 seconds again, shows all that frozen time in fast forward again, etc). This happens every a few hours of not closing the player's plugin I restart flash with the chrome task manager, reload the page, and it works properly again. I tried using firefox but I have the same problem (except I cant restart the flash plugin without restarting the browser).
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter installing opensuse 11.3 i am finding that i cannot recieve any audio with video with any application.
i can hear certain types of audio, it seems any audio that is not attached to video. i can hear the welcome chime through my speakers after i log in to opensuse and i can also listen to .mp3 files played with amarok. i can watch videos with multiple players, videos videos etc., but there is no audio happening with the video.
i am thinking now this may actually be a hardware problem, since it seems to persist with different software, and only with audio attached to video. i'm thinking maybe there is a problem with my graphics card and its driver (or a lackthereof), although i'm unsure of why i can still watch video. i don't receive any error messages or anything, nor have i attempted to manually install any drivers for my existing hardware. i tried cranking every volume control i could find, including the system volume, but still no volume with video (its weird, its like i can hear it a tiny bit when i crank it, perhaps this is just the internal system beep speaker trying to fill in for the gfx card?).
the card i'm currently using is an nvidia card and although its not exactly old, i have read about some problems with nvidia being reluctant to produce drivers for linux in the past. after some brief googling of nvidia and linux, i was surprised to see that nvidia has an entire portion of their site devoted to unix/linux and open source drivers (perhaps they're doing better now).
is there any way that i can troubleshoot this problem, or do you think the solution is simply purchasing another graphics card from a vendor that has a good reputation for linux support?
Just got done installing openSUSE 11.3 with the fantastic support the forum brings, but now I notice there is no sound coming from Firefox (v3.6.8) with Flash v10.1. Nor do I receive the new message sound for the Facebook chat. I do have sound at start up (the start up chimes) and I do have working sound in Amarok (with glorious mp3 support, YaST2). Is there a plug in that is needed, or is there an incorrect setting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with the latest RC of 11.4. Overall, it works great, but just have 1 issue. No flash videos have audio. Video works just fine. I've tried installing both the flash-player package so that it loads the official 32-bit plugin through ndiswrapper, and tried downloading the Adobe Square 64-bit plugin and installing it. Doesn't make a difference, either way I have working video but not audio. Audio itself on the laptop works with no issues, I listen to Amarok all the time on it. Laptop in question is a Dell Latitude E5500. I've also had Debian Wheezy and Kubuntu 10.10 on here, both had no issues.

I used K3B to rip some of my DVDs (using the Xvid codec) onto my laptop to take away on holiday with me. This worked fine for 2 of the DVDs but the 3rd one ended up with the audio out of sync with the video. Fortunately VLC comes to the rescue with the ability to offset the video and audio tracks.Is there a way to re-encode the ripped files to permanently fix the offset.

View 4 Replies View RelatedComing from windows one of things I miss the most is a decent video player and an audio player. For audio I use foobar2000 and I continue to do so on ubuntu with wine since I didn't find anything comparable. Video is worse because I can't use the same with wine. On windows I have used The KMPlayer since ages. But on ubuntu I only a few cumbersome players. The built in is very basic. VLC's subtitle/playlist management is very lame in comparison with kmp. Also seeking sucks with wmv's most of the time it jumps backwards when I want to jump forward. Mplayer doesn't even have gui and the frontends aren't too good either.
