bouncing icon and spinning icon in toolbar for 10-20 seconds, then nothing. Is there a special log file to be found for mozilla errors? (couldn't find anything useful in or near /var/log/messages or warnings all dependencies of associated programmes seem to fulfil dependencies, but obviously something isn't right. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Is there any way to update firefox to the latest stable version, like 3.6.x through the repos on OpenSUSE 11.2?
And will it cause any problems if it can be done?
I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.

I tried it on 10.10 and 10.4.I'm using a 945gm graphics card. 3 gb of ram.Its a real shame because I really enjoyed using Ubuntu, however i watch a lot of tv via the internet so cannot put up with the bad quality. Default state indicated by different icons. Interface option brought up by right-mouse-clicking on the qinternet/kinternet panel icon and choosing Settings/Various Settings/Startup tab. Note: Regardless of whether qinternet was running or not, internet communications via the relevant network interface still worked.
In case the failure of qinternet/smpppd was simply a PolicyKit issue, I edited /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf to ensure that the relevant user had the necessary privilege to run smpppd (I assume that qinternet can be ignored since it is just the front end for smpppd) e.g.

This made no difference, SO FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY, I logged in as root after first removing the power from the network switches externally connected to each network interface (isolating the local host). I then ran qinternet but once again, the Interface option was greyed out. This confirmed fairly conclusively that lack of privilege was not responsible for the qinternet/smpppd problem.
I use Ubuntu 10.10 with encrypted home. I'm new with apparmor. My firefox-3.6.13 is now in enforce mode - with standard profile. With this profile it should have write access only to:
owner @{HOME}/Downloads/* rw,
But I can save files (with standard downloadmanager of firefox) e.g. in $HOME itself and I can't find any other rule, which could allow that. I have thing, that ecryptfs workaround just affects the eCryptFS "part of things" and limitations of normal filenames/paths (in mounted ecryptfs) are still possible. Why can firefox write elsewhere as in to ${HOME}/Downloads? I get also this in kern.log (but not by saving a file as wrote above):

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my opensuse 11.2 pc, the Decmber 3rd KDE 4.5.4 update proceeded to install all updates except libkdecore4 (and maybe others). libkdecore4 now has a dependency on liblzma5 which is not available. The result is an all white desktop with boxes where the widgets should be.

I'm using KDE and after some update GStreamer seems to be broken. Firstly it was unable to play sound at all, and I've got around this by changing Phonon preferred engine to Xine. But Clementine is still unable to play with error message:

I've already read this and this topic, but none of the things, proposed to try, worked for me.
I have recently updated my GNOME installation from 3.x to 3.14. Suddenly, there are many glitches. The power buttons on the power menu does nothing, I am forced to shut down via the terminal, everything goes black every now and again, and there is a weird colour pattern behind some icons when I hover over them. But most importantly, the icons and text do not show up on the "Activities -> Show Applications -> All" menu. They still there, as you can see the opening animation before they disappear, and I can click on them, but you just can't see them. The "Frequent" menu works fine. I'm running Suse 11.2. Xemacs worked fine until I did a security update yesterday. Now, when I try to open a file, the file doesn't open and at the bottom of the window it says 'Loading this file requires xemacs, (null(function-max-args 'throw))'

Recently i add a lot of repositories for new apps but do0ing a zypper up after that left left many things broken ,first the my system has added 2 more entries in grub menu namely, opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7 and opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7-(failsafe) why are these added and now when I simply boot opensuse11.3 from menu though it starts but has no sound and typical errors shown .

Viewing any source on the Web results in partial loading of data followed by broken up multiple lines. It is occurring now with this post. Paging down I get three lines of "submit new thread" until at the bottom are multiple lines (no characters) after "forum rules". I put it to my network provider who cannot come up with any idea of what may cause it. It cannot be the hardware as the same condition exists on two PC's. Both are on 11.2.

I'm running OS 11.2x64, Kde 4.3, and Sun Java (latest 64-bit from the repos), and there is one chat room using the Parachat software ParaChat Site that I cannot access in the Linux version of Firefox 3.6. The chat room loads, starts, then locks up in less than a couple of minutes so tight at times I have to kill the process. (Java is usually running about 50% CPU at this point, and will shut down on its own.) I can access the Parachat software in Windows XP (32-bit), Firefox 3.6, and latest Windows Sun Java and it works fine. I've tried running Firefox with a blank ".mozilla" file, and with my normal profile, and this particular chat room is the only one that won't work. I can get into others just fine.

I was doing a kernel update and can no longer boot into 11.3. I am dual booting with XP. I get Grub screen but no longer see Suse as a boot option, only Windows. I have tried to reinstall, but for some reason I can't get it to boot with DVD. So, is there a way that I can repair my computer without doing a reinstall?

The most recent update that produced the kernel version above is bit of a disaster for me. The open source radeon driver does not work with VirtualBox (it crashes at startup), and the ATI fglrx driver either builds without acceleration (or the X server loads it that way?) or fails to build.
Is there a way to undo some (or all, if necessary) of the update?
