OpenSUSE :: Xemacs Broken After Security Update / Fix It?
Mar 20, 2010
I'm running Suse 11.2. Xemacs worked fine until I did a security update yesterday. Now, when I try to open a file, the file doesn't open and at the bottom of the window it says 'Loading this file requires xemacs, (null(function-max-args 'throw))'
The problem is that yum is refusing to install gcc on a new SL6 install. As far as I can make out, a security update that I applied prior to my attempt to install gcc has caused problems. I did a new SL6 install (x86_86) a couple of weeks ago. This was a minimal installation, and I didn't install any dev tools, as I intended to install them later from yum. Since then, I've done very little; I installed a few packages (samba, xemacs, etc), and I let the system update itself. The update installed 'kernel', and updated 'kernel-firmware' [URL]. I now need to install the dev tools (g++, and so on), but I can't. I've tried this from gpk-application, and directly from yum. The complete yum output is below, but the basic error is:
I was experimenting with Emacs and Xemacs - trying to chose between them. Finally I've re-installed Xemacs and find that keyboard in Xemacs don't operate. I'm using openSuSE 11.3 Emacs 23.1.1 Xemacs 21.59.... Perhaps I should uninstall Emacs?
On my opensuse 11.2 pc, the Decmber 3rd KDE 4.5.4 update proceeded to install all updates except libkdecore4 (and maybe others). libkdecore4 now has a dependency on liblzma5 which is not available. The result is an all white desktop with boxes where the widgets should be.
I found this bug report: [url]
But I can't find liblzma5 in the repository that is listed in the 2nd posting.
I'm using KDE and after some update GStreamer seems to be broken. Firstly it was unable to play sound at all, and I've got around this by changing Phonon preferred engine to Xine. But Clementine is still unable to play with error message:
Clementine Error GStreamer could not create the element: volume. Please make sure that you have installed all necessary GStreamer plugins (e.g. OGG and MP3)
I've already read this and this topic, but none of the things, proposed to try, worked for me.
After the update, the smb daemon will not start: jarfx:/etc/init.d # ./smb start Starting Samba SMB daemon [2011/03/12 09:04:08, 0] lib/fault.c:250(dump_core_setup) Unable to setup corepath for smbd: Permission denied [2011/03/12 09:04:08, 0] smbd/server.c:1134(main) smbd version 3.5.7-1.17.1-2505-SUSE-SL11.4-x86_64 started. Recently i add a lot of repositories for new apps but do0ing a zypper up after that left left many things broken ,first the my system has added 2 more entries in grub menu namely, opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7 and opensuse 11.3 desktop-2.6.34.7-(failsafe) why are these added and now when I simply boot opensuse11.3 from menu though it starts but has no sound and typical errors shown . Firefox is broken. how could I reach a stable state now I have these repos only code...
About a week ago, I installed all the updates that popped up. I didn't actually look at what was being installed.
Since then, most of the items in the Yast2 Control centre won't run and just pop up an error box with the following (Firewall):
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error' what(): basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid YaST got signal 6 at YCP file /usr/share/YaST2/clients/firewall.ycp:20 /sbin/yast2: line 440: 19436 Aborted $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "::ffff:127.0.0.1:11.0".
How can I make the security applet stop showing an update for firefox 3.5.9? I have a more recent version installed from mozilla repo: firefox 3.6. The mozilla repo already has a higher priority (95 instead of 99), so I don't know what to do.
I received an update yesterday and now my analog clock plasmoid is no longer functional. It's strange too because when I change a setting in the plasmoid, it'll magically come to life. I ran plasma-desktop in terminal to catch an error output, but nothing came up.
Useful info: Running KDE 4.4.0 release 223 Opensuse 11.2
I was doing a kernel update and can no longer boot into 11.3. I am dual booting with XP. I get Grub screen but no longer see Suse as a boot option, only Windows. I have tried to reinstall, but for some reason I can't get it to boot with DVD. So, is there a way that I can repair my computer without doing a reinstall?
bouncing icon and spinning icon in toolbar for 10-20 seconds, then nothing. Is there a special log file to be found for mozilla errors? (couldn't find anything useful in or near /var/log/messages or warnings all dependencies of associated programmes seem to fulfil dependencies, but obviously something isn't right. Does anyone else have the same problem?
I started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.
im on mint 10 and when I run Update Manager i get this
Code:

My system is trying to install security update, but I get the following message: A package could not that allows the task to complete. Details are as follows: patch:libfreebl3-2258.noarch conflicts with libfreebl3-32bit.x86_64 < 3.12.6-3.1.1 provided by libfreebl3-32bit-3.12.6-2.pm.6.2.x86_64
Jaunty Jack - 9.04. Ran update manager last night and ubuntu-one client failed as part of the upgrade. At a loss as to figure out how to fix this. I have removed the ubuntuone-gnome-client and re-installed from the website but now luck.
my grafig driver (ATI-Radeon HD5440) didn't work after one of the latest security updates since 1.September 2010.How can I check the date of the online update packages to find out which package causes the problem.
The libxml2 update specified by CVE-2010-4494 causes a notification that it will break Adobe AIR and TweetDeck on my machine. How can I blacklist this update so it won't keep showing up in the Updater applet? The applet says I should go into Yast and manually apply the update. When I do that and tell it not to apply the update, Yast exits and the Updater applet just tells me the update is still pending. I want to get rid of the update at least temporarily until Adobe fixes the dependency (assuming they ever do).
This is a major problem for me as I clearly don't intend to uninstall TweetDeck and AIR just for some security patch. Why didn't openSUSE test this patch for AIR compatibility?
When I open a new buffer in XEmacs it places the tab all the way to the left of the toolbar, pushing all the other tabs one space to the right. How can I configure it so that it appends the new tab to the right of all the previous tabs without shifting the previously opened tabs over one.
Anybody use xemacs with slackware? If so, how did you build or install it? I've used it in the past with other distros. I briefly tried emacs but because I was used to xemacs, gave up on it.
I have installed FEDORA 14 in my machine. I am not able to have the syntax highlighting in the xemacs. I tried a file.f90 for a FORTRAN 90 program . I tried to flag the syntax highlighting in this buffer without success. Code: rpm -q xemacs xemacs-21.5.29-15.fc14.x86_64
Initially installed 5.3 on a 64-bit platform and was able to compile just fine. Foolhardily updated to 5.5. Somewhere in that process I lost the ability to compile even the simplest "hello, world" C program.
$ gcc hello.c In file included from /usr/include/_G_config.h:44, from /usr/include/libio.h:32, from /usr/include/stdio.h:72, from hello.c:1:
I don't have a shell on FC12 with me to show the output of iptables -L -n but it looks good after above 2 commands. However, after issuing the following third command iptables -L -n gives "wrong" result
Namely iptables -L -n gives extra "/0" after 127.0.0.1 in the output I have checked on Ubuntu 9.10 and centos 5.4 and they don't give extra "/0"; iptables is not supposed to do that. Of course, I didn't invent these examples but they are abstracted from actual real life scenerio of trying to build rules on our servers.
I have recently upgraded from FC12 to FC13, and last week I updated all packages using YUM. The system is running as a VM inside CentOS 5.5 using KVM. SELinux is enforcing, using the targeted policy. Bugzilla is version 3.6.1 and was NOT installed using RPM or YUM.
Bugzilla was working OK on this machine until SELinux was upgraded last week from 3.7.19-28 to 3.7.19-33, and is still broken after testing 3.7.19-37 from the testing repo. With SELinux in enforcing mode, apache returns error 500 when I browse to the main bugzilla page. The apache error log shows this:-
Code: [Mon Jul 19 13:15:08 2010] [error] [client 192.168.40.1] (13)Permission denied: exec of '/var/www/html/bugzilla/index.cgi' failed Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, is recorded in /var/log/audit/audit.log, /var/log/messages or /var/log/secure.
i updated both browsers i have and lost my secure log-in pages (no padlocks showing ) concerning different Web mail accounts.Just before i did these updates i checked an unrelated thing on-line regarding my sound card of which i kept a copy of and got this message below :
!!ALSA/HDA dmesg !!------------------ [ 12.762633] cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: AM
I have an offline machine and the full 8 DVD repository set and have added them to the system and they work fine to install packages. I used jigdo to download the update 6.0.1 DVD and the "packages" file and the one inside of "packages.gz" are empty files. This prevents the disk from working at all. I'm not sure who to report this to.
Just got today's F12 updates, which included changing Firefox, Thunderbird & Lightning from Beta to full releases (FF=3.5.6; T'Bird=3.0; Lightning=1.0-0.16.20090916hg.fc12.x86_64). My remote calendars from Google come up fine but my local "home" calendar now gets the following errors:
