I tried to update firefox using yast, and now Firefox will not launch. I have downloaded 3.6 and I can run it from within its directory, but I would like to get back to all of the nice desktop integration and Im not sure exactly what I did wrong in the 1st place..Reinstallation in Yast does NOT fix the issue and I have had the same issue with a few other packages.. i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was having a problem with cairo dock, asked on the board how to resolve was told to reinstall the visual driver for my monitor since I have an ati vid card since with the updated kernal u have to reinstall those drivers(didn't know that, I'm new to opensuse). I thought I did that before so I completely uninstalled it so I could then do a fresh reinstall but I wasn't paying attention and my laptop was unplugged for a while. I stepped away while the install was going on and my laptop died.
I tried plugging it in but had to restart my laptop when I did I got the command line rows and when I tried to start GDM it wouldn't start, I did so as SU. Attempted to connect to the internet via networkmanager and couldn't get wifi or wired to work. Anyway I can access my desktop visually just so I can start yast and install the driver or will I have to reinstall 11.2 or use the cd to repair? If so how do I use the cd to repair?

I was trying out a theme from gnome-look (elegant gnome) and it had an option to change my gdm theme. I used it, did not like the look, but when I uninstalled it said there was no back-up. Now my gdm looks like something from windows 95! How can I reset it back to the original settings? I tried reinstalling GDM in synaptic but no change

I had the Adobe flash plugin working under 09.10 in Firefox; now after the upgrade to 10.04, it doesn't work.When I go to a web page with flash video, I get the message "Some plugins are not installed" and video will not display. I click on the button to install the plugins and select Adobe Flash. I get the message "Package is already installed." I go back to the web page and the same thing happens again.In Ubuntu Software Center I see that package restricted-extras is installed.
I tried going through Tools / Add-ons in Firefox, but the list of add-ons wouldn't load at all that way.I also tried going to Adobe's web site, but for versions of Ubuntu 09 and later it offers an "APT" file instead of a .deb. Firefox asks what application to use to open an "APT" file and I don't know what to tell it... I'd be fine downloading a .deb or using apt-get or Ubuntu Software Center though.
RE: Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 64bit Updates from 2-3 days ago.
Since then, Firefox starts and runs fine the first time. Close it down and later try to restart, error says that Firefox is already using that profile and will need to quit it before proceeding.
System Monitor then shows that firefox and firefox-bin are still loaded (although nothing in the gnome app tray at bottom of screen). Jill those 2 processes and Firefox loads normally.
Should I wait this out and see if later updates cure this? Reinstall Firefox? Submit a report to launchpad?
How do i roll back firefox5beta to firefox4 and keep updating to the latest stable releases w/out upgrading to beta? The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running Ubuntu Gnome with Firefox. Upgrades yesterday (18 February 2010) at about 1430 MDT hours (UTC 2130 hours) broke Firefox on both machines. Firefox is present in the menu, and in /usr/bin/firefox, but it will not launch, not even from the command line. I have tried "sudo apt-get remove firefox" followed by "sudo apt-get install firefox" but the problem persists. When attempting to launch firefox, it does give me a tiny brown spot at the upper-left side of the screen. This can be expanded by dragging so that it is a full screen, labeled "Firefox" but there is no content in the screen...only blank space.

I am trying to use 32 bit Gemalto pkcs#11 on 64 bit 3.5.8 Firefox on 64bit Opensuse 11.2(2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-03-16 21:25:39 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). Unfortunately I do not have 64 bit pksc#11. I have installed 32 bit pkcs#11 and the smart card is accessible from operation system. Is there any solution to push 64bit Firefox to work with 32 pksc#11?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

It behaves the same after the upgrade. I noticed on this site, I couldn't click the cursor into the simple search window. So from openSuse, firefox is third party, adobe is fourth party and yahoo is fifth party. Who owns this problem? The rest of my system is KDE 4.6.0 on HW 686 - 32 bit.

I was trying to update the graphics drivers as i am getting a screen flicker every 10-15 seconds and its beginning to annoy me, so I add the ATi repository in yast, installed 'fglrx' and rebooted.
Everything went as it should until the graphical loader showed the bar at about 50% and the screen went black, my monitor reports that its out of range after a minute or so.
My graphics card is a HD4650 and the max res of my screen is 75Hz,
Ive managed to get the command line by booting to Failsafe and started KDM manually and i get the same thing.
Im assuming that the driver is correct but is setting the resolution or refresh rate too high?
Has anyone else had this problem? and can someone point me in the direction of editing aticonfig?
How do I get my firefox back to normal? It used to have the orange x and the minimize stuff on the left. Now it has the x black and on the right. I cant figure out how to get it back to normal.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 11.1 on a computer. I updated it yesterday. Now K3B, VLC, and XDVDShrink are all broken. Possibly other programs broken as well. VLC refuses to uninstall via Yast. These are high-priority programs for this computer. Multiple people use this computer for multimedia and there is not much to entertain ourselves with in our very cold climate. In other words, it is mandatory that K3B, VLC and XDVDShrink return to operational status.
Should I just upgrade to 11.3, try to fix the broken 11.1? I prefer using KDE3, not KDE4, but I can sacrifice.

I tried adjusting the preferences in Firefox but nothing works. How can I revert it back?I did a fresh install (but kept my home directory) and it made no change. Now, the back/forward buttons in Firefox have no icons, which means they're hard to find, and they're also much thinner than usual. After installation, Firefox seems to have a clean profile. Well I don't want Firefox to have a clean profile; I want to be able to view history from weeks ago.
When I go to Applications>system tools>Gosa, I'm directed to a page that says: "Error 404 Sorry, the requested document could not be found on this server." I've tried uninstalling GOsa, but that doesn't help.
To tell you the truth, I'd be cool to disable GOsa and then get rid of it.
I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.
