I am running openSUSE 11.1 + KDE 4.2.I wonder where is the desktop button, which minimized all currently opened applications and brings you back to the desktop?
Please could someone let me know how or what do I need to insert to the control panel?
Have recently tried to start ubuntu with kubuntu-desktop, but as I reboot my computer kubuntu only shows the terminal after the login and I cant get my desktop back.

E.g., if I log in to a normal Gnome session, I have no panel or any controls whatsoever, just the desktop background and nothing else. Mouse works, but no mouse click of any sort brings up any menu. The only keystroke combo that works is CTRL-ALT-DEL which lets me cleanly reboot.
Logging in to Gnome-Failsafe works fine (that's where I am now). Even if I reconfigure the graphics in failsafe, however, it doesn't seem to fix the problem next reboot.
First question: What do I have to do to copy the working Gnome-failsafe info to Gnome regular?
Second question: What should I do to start the graphic config again from scratch? I'm guessing my problem might have something to do with my having an older Nvidia card and getting conflicts between the proprietary drivers and the 'nouveau' open source drivers, and my current efforts to fix things have probably left a mess of config files somewhere, but I'm not entirely up on how these things are configured nowadays, and understand that /etc/X11/xorg.conf isn't all there is to it anymore. (I used to know how to muck about with this stuff, but because the Ubuntu developers have done such fabulous work in getting things so they 'just work', users like me have had the luxury of not having to worry about figuring it out ourselves for quite a while; thanks are definitely in order there!)
I have connected and used external display 1920x1080After disconnecting the display it looks like panel remained huge size and I can not resize it as panel button is outside of the desktop:You see the same button in the top right corner? I'm missing exact one in the bottom right corner
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently i upgraded from Suse 10.3 to Suse 11.2. There was a option available on 10.3 for minimizing all the opened windows to see "Desktop", and that was "Alt+Cntrl+d" The same is not working on 11.2 (even i tried Alt+d, Window+d).

It contained shortcuts to SuSe Help, Open Office, Firefox, My Computer and a few more. I fidgeted with my desktop activity settings and it disappeared. How do I get it back?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.
I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.
I am unable to select an option that just shows the applications designated to a current desktop and hides the rest. After all these years, I do not even know why KDE does not have this set by default.
My system is openSUSE 11.3 64-bit with KDE 4.4.4
If it helps, I installed my system through the openSUSE 11.3 LiveCD.

I've had Fedora 15 installed on this machine for about three weeks. Today I installed Q-cad for the first time and open it to make sure it would launch. I left the machine for about an hour and when I opened the desktop, I was notified of 879 updates. A quick glance and the updates applied to everything from grub to gimp and lots in between. is it normal to have so many updates dumped to me all at once?

I would like to use the "suspend" function on my desktop too running an opensuse 11.1 with default kernel 2.6.27.39, but when I restart the machine the monitor is black and the only solution is to reboot it.
Is it possible to use the "suspend" on desktop? Where is it possible to get the information to make it possible?

Using Wheezy on an Acer Aspire One 5737 laptop. After a recent update now when I drag an open window around on the desktop it well wobbles in a distorted manner, the same goes when scrolling the page doesn't scroll smoothly it, well, wobbles. I have had the same issue in the past with Lenny on a laptop and I had to install video drivers it fix it however I 'think' Debian now supplies it's own drivers, is this correct? I'm not all that good with the video aspects of Linux. Is there something I need to check or maybe reinstall to correct thsi problem?
I have recently played around with Mac4lin a program to change the interface to one that resembles a Mac computer. I did not like the settings then decided to uninstall the program. It reverted to a really ugly looking gnome desktop rather than my previous settings. One thing that I don't like is that I have a foot icon on my gnome traditional menu button on the panel rather than the green ball type icon I used to have. I know it's not the end of the world that my icons do not look like it previously did, everything else is running smoothly, though I'm just more annoyed than anything else.

Compiz is already install on my system,that I have tried all possible combinations of "show desktop" functionality in Compiz and Gnome itself. However, whenever I use the shortcut, it activates(maximize) one window first, and it shows desktop if I use the shortcut second time. Actually same thing happens when I press the "show desktop" button on the panel as well

The icons and taskbar etc are in the correct places, only everything is a mirror image. This is a per user problem as my wife's account is fine. I have tried deleting all of the plasma files in the ./config directory with no luck. KDE 4.5 on openSUSE 11.3NVidia graphics if that matters

Secondly, it defaults with 4 desktops in a 2X2 grid layout. I changed it to 2, then back to 4 and now it has 4 desktops in a linear layout (1x4). How can I change it back to 2X2?
I upgraded 9.10 desktop to 10.04 using network (recommended) procedure.The window close button has moved (all desktop windows) from upper right corner to upper left corner. This causes untold frustration since I flip amongst numerous computers with Windows windows and other levels of UBUNTU windows. is there some way to configure where the window close button is (some way to put it back in the upper right corner)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a home LAN server with Ubuntu Desktop edition 10.10 and I'm having a problem with remote desktop application. For now I have a monitor on that machine, but in the future it's gonna be only the box, without any periferal devices. When I try to log in via UltraVNC from Windows XP, on Ubuntu server a little window pops up, asking me to allow or refuse this "invader", so I click Allow and I really have full control on that machine. However, when I dont have any devices I wouldnt be able to click this Allow button, but will have to have full control. So, my question is how to autoclick this Allow button? Or when I try to log in the ubuntu machine, it would automatically give me full control?
