How do I get it to display a different desktop background for each desktop? I'm sure I saw this option somewhere, but I can't find it again.
Secondly, it defaults with 4 desktops in a 2X2 grid layout. I changed it to 2, then back to 4 and now it has 4 desktops in a linear layout (1x4). How can I change it back to 2X2?
Up until KDE4 I could select a different image for each of the 4 virtual desktops. Now I tried Suse11.1 KDE and it seems like there is no such option. I can change the background image allright, but all 4 desktops have the SAME image.

I cant get ubuntu to display a background picture on the desktop, and anything I put on the desktop is not selectable. If I try to access anything under the "Places" tab, it tries to open a window, which read "opening whatever" but nothing happens. I can access files via terminal just fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing gnome-color-chooser for Ubuntu 10.10, I followed all the steps to enable transparent gnome menu. When I logged out and logged back into my user, the gnome panel menu was transparent as It should be however, the desktop background changed color and I cannot change the desktop by right clicking the desktop. If I do right click and try to, the entire desktop and all programs freeze. The mouse works but that is it. Whenever I try to open gnome-color-chooser, I get this error message : ERROR Could not open or create file /home/User/.gtkrc-2.0-gnome-color-chooser. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both gnome color chooser and gnome panel with no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this problem for a long time (since I first installed 11.2) but I hoped KDE SC 4.4 would fix it for me. Since it didn't, I decided to make a thread about it. I have a really weird problem ─ I can only set svg graphics as desktop backgrounds. I can't put any kind of png/jpg (haven't tried others) picture as a wallpaper. All I get is a black background. The weather backgrounds etc. work perfectly fine. I can create a svgz file in Inkscape and insert a png image in it but that's kind of a stupid workaround for a problem. Has anyone encountered a problem like this?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIt has been about a month since I installed openSUSE 11.3 (64bit, Gnome), and overall it is better than 11.2, but I have had some stability issues that I did not have with 11.2.
1. openSUSE 11.3 crashes very often when I change desktop background. I haven't experiment with it but it happens with downloaded images.
2. Changing monitor environment makes openSUSE to freeze. Fresh boot with external monitors connected usually works, but plugging & unplugging monitors usually makes openSUSE freezing. (I have to force power down)
3. Suspend makes openSUSE freeze a lot. Usually one suspension works, if I re-suspend it, it usually freezes.
I was wondering if these are common with 11.3 or I'm the only one who is having this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working on getting my myth box hooked up to my Sony flat panel display.Originally the nvidia drivers could not read the EID, so defaulted to only 640x480 over my HDMI-DVI connection.I manually updated xorg.conf with a mode for the resolution I know the thing can handle. Suddenly there are several resolutions avaialble in nvidia-settings and it seems to be communicating with the TV, as it is now listed as a Sony FP display rather than a CRT.I'm able to change the resolution now as expected.my problem, however, lies with the TV itself. I can't seem to get it to actually display the output. I'm able to remote desktop into the box and can see Gnome logged in and everything.However nothing on the TV itself.How do I troubleshoot this? Am I missing something obvious?

I assume I've been somewhat successful in what I'm attempting to do, as I can work my way around a bit now and use some terminal commands. However, there is this display problem I seem to be encountering with certain windows which is extremely putting off. When I click options like 'File' or 'Edit' in a window, this is what I get. Here are the screenshots below.
This is what I get when I click the 'Volume' button in the Panel at the bottom of the screen. I have tried changing the Desktop Appearance Settings, Theme Settings but nothing seems to work. Although this is not a performance issue, it is hampering my vision of the various available options, and I would like to resolve it at once.
I am using OS 11.0 Every time I boot my laptop (dell inspiron 9300 - ati video M300). I get the desktop display as 1920 X 1200. This is too large for my default. I use KRandRTray to resize back to 1024 X 768. How can I set 1024 X 768 as the default but still have the option to go to 1920 X 1200?

Recently installed OpenSuse 11.3 on my system, Setup dual monitors w/ the latest Nvidia driver from Yast repo : download.nvidia.com
Initially twin view ( same desktop viewed on both monitors ) worked no problem
Once xinorama was enabled to extend the one desktop across both I encountered a mouse issue.
Main monitor is on the right, 2ndary on the left... When I drag the mouse from the right monitor over to the lest.. the cursor appears to get stuck on the left monitor's right hand edge.. it flickers as i move it around...
If I drag the mouse to the right a few whole mousepad lengths it will come back to the right...its like fighting to bring it back..
AAO D255, all updates, Ununtu 11.04My desktop background and folder icons are dim in comparison to the slider and any program I open. I also notice that when I run a program that installs anything that screen dims (gets like this grey opacity I guess) after a period of time. I am plugged into the wall so the laptop is NOT running on battery.Is there some setting I need to tweak after this latest install? This did NOT occur prior to samesaid.

After changing it, I restarted my computer, typed in my username/password and it just brought me to an image of my background with no icons or the sidebar. When I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 it brings me to a command prompt. Also, after the log in I get an error displaying Enter password to unlock your login keyring. After entering my password nothing happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedF12 current updates. The Gnome Desktop Background images are compressed in the horizontal axis enough to make a cessna 182 look like a disney cartoon. I am running 1280X1084 75 hertz update rate. The Gnome Image Viewer gives a correct image. The image I am running had to be stretched to fill the screen. I suspect the stretching algorithm is at fault. Is this a bug that need reporting?

When I go to the settings folder, it shows the image that it previously was, but i have to change either the "zoom" or "tile" settings, or just change the image in order for it to reappear. I really have no idea why this happens, and certainly does not happen with every reboot. If it helps, I am using Intel Ironlake Mobile.
