View 3 RepliesI like 11.04 with Unity however I would like to find a method of managing workspaces with mouse (not keyboard) which gives constant visual feedback and is faster than using the launcher bar, which although not 'slow', takes time to appear and it then takes time to locate the (non movable) desktop switcher item.I happily adopt most of what 11.04 (Unity) offers, however, I really still miss the good visual feedback and the single click action that the lower panel (classic) desktop switcher used. Is there a way of me using some item in unity which is closely similar?

could someone tell me how to add more workspaces in Unity?
I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my netbook. Having had a bit of a play with Unity I found it not to my taste, so I've switched to "Ubuntu Classic" - Gnome without Unity - on the login screen. For a while now I've organised my work using the Workspace Switcher Gnome applet. I use five workspaces, each named to identify the type of stuff that goes on in it.
11.04 comes with Workspace Switcher version 2.32.1 - right clicking it and clicking on Preferences gives a stripped down preferences dialogue, no longer including fields allowing the user to define workspace names. Ubuntu 10.04, for example, uses Workspace Switcher 2.30.2 which did allow for workspace names to be defined via the Workspace Switcher Preferences dialogue. I'd really like to be able to define workspace names and have them show in the Workspace Switcher in the panel.
how can I stop selecting items in menus on mouse button release? Sometimes I open a menu and move the mouse slightly before releasing it and I accidently select the item on the menu, which is annoying.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI normally don't switch between workspaces. In older versions I had done it just to try it out. And the files that were on the desktop in Workspace #1 were not there in any of the other Workspaces, but now in 10.04 they are. Is this the way it should be? Or is there something I need to set to have a clean desktop in the other Workspaces?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to enable desktop-cube on unity, and when it did that it disable the unity compiz plugin. When it did that it removed the entire top bar that we has the buttons to min, max, and exit. As well as all windows default to the very top-left side of screen and under the the top bar so I Can not move the window ether.I turned it back to the unity plugin, but it did not work. Even tried to complete remove and install compiz and unity. This does not affect Unity 2D.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNOTE: compizconfig manager is not suitable for ubuntu 11.04 with unity, works fine with 9.10 and 10.10.
Ubuntu enables "Desktop Wall" by default. By holding Ctrl-Alt keys and pressing the left-arrow or right-arrow key each time, it slides through desktop workspaces horizontally for you to choose one to work on. Alternatively, you can change this to a "rotate cube" effect. Go To System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager.
Select "Desktop" from the left panel.
Tick "Rotate Cube".
Select "Enable Desktop Cube" as this plugin is required by "Rotate Cube".
Select "Disable Desktop Wall".
Immediately you can rotate your desktop workspaces in this way holding down Ctrl-Alt keys, EITHER press the left-arrow or right-arrow key OR left-click the mouse and drag it to left or right.
if there is no compiz manager in your system, download it.. type :sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager ..
Menu sometimes will stay visible on the desktop or on top of other windows after selecting them. To fix it I normally log out then log back in. Its been doing it for a few weeks. I install lots of eye candy/themes etc and have Avant, docky and cario-dock and think it be may some eye candy I installed, not sure. I have a ATI graphics card thats been tested by the distro.Using the latest 10.10 as I update security and recommended updates via update manager.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've bought Samsung n210 netbook, took it home, immediately removed Windows and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Now, everything went pretty well, but I have a problem. Not sure if I'm just mistaken in my expectations or it's a real problem, but I can't use my desktop. I see the launch bar to the left, and everything in it works fine, but just to mention, it does not have Favorites and such, as I could see on some user guides, but only a thin launch bar with apps in it.
Right clicking on my desktop, pasting something, selecting... Nothing seems to work. Is there any problem with my install or what?
I've switched my non-maximized window button locations back over to the right with gconf-editor but i'd like to change the global menu buttons over to the right as well.I've had 20 odd years working that way. I can't seem to find an option in gconf-editor and if google has the answer I'm not using the correct search terms.

View 1 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the Ubuntu 10.10 beta and after intalling, it installed Unity from the Netbook edition.
I thought it was normal so I tried it out for a while but it was glitchy and I didnt like it so I tried disabling it. I couldnt find a way how to do it, and I didnt have any Panels on my desktop and my background was just plain white, all that was visible was the Unity bar on the left side of the screen.
I decided to just reset my ubuntu settings to default without losing any of my Apps, movies, music, pictures etc etc
After doing that I restarted Ubuntu but now all i get its a white background without any panels and only Docky pops up at the bottom.
Is there anything I could do?
This is a super tiny detail that most people probably don't even notice, but why is the show desktop button icon cut off? It looks really weird.
I don't think it was like that in 9.10. Is there any way to fix it?
