Recently i upgraded from Suse 10.3 to Suse 11.2. There was a option available on 10.3 for minimizing all the opened windows to see "Desktop", and that was "Alt+Cntrl+d" The same is not working on 11.2 (even i tried Alt+d, Window+d).

I am running openSUSE 11.1 + KDE 4.2.I wonder where is the desktop button, which minimized all currently opened applications and brings you back to the desktop?
Please could someone let me know how or what do I need to insert to the control panel?
OK so that probably wasn't the best subject line as it was a hard one to describe.
Using Wheezy on an Acer Aspire One 5737 laptop. After a recent update now when I drag an open window around on the desktop it well wobbles in a distorted manner, the same goes when scrolling the page doesn't scroll smoothly it, well, wobbles. I have had the same issue in the past with Lenny on a laptop and I had to install video drivers it fix it however I 'think' Debian now supplies it's own drivers, is this correct? I'm not all that good with the video aspects of Linux. Is there something I need to check or maybe reinstall to correct thsi problem?
Most discussion of lightweight desktops seems to focus on cpu and/or gpu load. I want to ask a different question (though it may have the same solution): how to set up a secure remote desktop server for students to minimise network load. My current setup (gnome plus vncserver, tunneled over ssh) is certainly a bad choice, but I'm having trouble finding the right information about what to choose. My current best guesses:LXDE (not too unfamilar to students used to gnome)NX (generally said to give better compression) Is this a reasonable compromise? View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using RHEL5. Whenever I try to minimize any window, instead of it getting minimized in the bottom panel it get minimized at the right hand bottom corner. So If I want to view that window again, the only option I can view that again is by using Alt+Tab. How can I make these windows to populate in the bottom panel whenver I minimize those.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu, updated to 10.04. After working OK, today Windows started disappearing whenever I click to minimize them. They're still running, but I have to go to System Monitor, locate the program in the list and click "Show Window." That's a nuisance.
I think this began after I tried to move panel icons to the right with an adjustable spacer. I've hunted all over the place for some setting to get windows to operate properly. The "Window Behavior" item in System Settings doesn't have anything. I removed the spacer and that didn't do anything, either.
I've seen people use the fire effect when minimizing windows and even saw someone setting up the fire effect to fit their needs in compiz but I do not have the fire effect in my compiz effects manager. Where can i get it??

Doesn't matter if its a program or my home folder, anything I open disappears when its minimized.I can run the system monitor and check running processes and they are still running. I just cant see them. All I can do is kill them with the system monitor.I can log on as another user and they work fine. It's just in one account. Is there a way to fix this, or to completely reset my desktop to the default settings? I know it's something I did but I can't find out where to fix it.

I found another post here that says the issue can be fixed by changing some settings on the Ubuntu box when connected. However, I cannot find the location of the settings indicated in that post [URL].
Does anyone know how to resolve this 'd' key problem?

I left the machine for about an hour and when I opened the desktop, I was notified of 879 updates. A quick glance and the updates applied to everything from grub to gimp and lots in between. is it normal to have so many updates dumped to me all at once?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have just done something silly. I have Xubuntu installed and i opened Window Desktop Tweak i think and stupidly i enabled Composting and slid all the sliders the wrong way and now i cant see any of my windows .
What do i do or how can i correct this as i cant see anything ?
in the past i always used debian for servers only (mainly webservers, routers and antispam gateways), but now i have to develop some application for linux so i installed it on a desktop (have always been running windows on my desktops). i am running testing (mainly because i need some more recent packages and working with stable i find myself using backports most of the time). now i have seen that the standard used web browser is iceweasel (which according to sources i found is a firefox fork) but this browser seems to have some troubles:
- videos : always gives me an error in the video frame and i have to clear my cookies and reload the page to make it work for every single video i watch. embedded ..... vids work fine.
- gmail : as soon as i open my gmail account on any tab or iceweasel window all other windows are unuseable (show blank as if the application crashed) but gmail works fine. as soon as i close the iceweasel window where gmail is running all other windows are doing normal again.
- lots of pages display very poorly on iceweasel (misplaced div's, ... etc) : this is nearly always on pages where you find overlayed advertising in div's so i guess this is mainly dued to poor coding of those junk adds (i can live with that).
is there any alternative to iceweasel. especially the gmail part is very annoying, the rest i could live with (but prefer not to). i googled the web for those problems but i mostly found that these problems occured because of some extension (for example : ad blocker) but i don't use those so it didn't solve my problem.
I was wondering if there is a way to make Nautilus scroll up when opening folders. If I open a folder at the bottom of the page, the subfolders open below and I have to use the scroll bar to move down the page to see what's under the top folder. I would like to have it put the opened folder at the top of the page so I can see as many subfolders and files as possible without having to scroll. Something like the file roller when you are looking for a place to extract files. It does exactly what I'm looking for. Are there any settings I can change in Nautilus that would provide this function?

Also, from other discussions, it seems that I am supposed to be able to get a web session going, but I'm not sure how to do that. Does anyone know how to get a web session going through VNC? Do I need to run something other that vncserver?
Is it possible to get rid of the windowshapes in the desktop switcher application? I just want to see the square of the desktop an it's title, not the ugly shapes of all open windows on it.Or any alternatives?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had opensuse 11.2 installed on my netbook for a couple of months and it has worked smoothly. Recently after a couple of updates however, I have noticed that when I plug a usb drive into my netbook, opensuse is not automatically mounting the drive. Just then upgraded my system to 11.3 and I still have the same problem.When i run a "fdisk -l" I can see that my usb is there and when I run a mount command I can successfully mount it and access my files. However opensuse seems to no longer mount it for me automatically. I am running gnome and my netbook is a dell inspiron mini. Is there some way to turn the mounting of usb drives back on so I don't have to run a tedious command every time?
I have also noticed recently, that my windows partition appears as an icon on my desktop, whereas it never used to. I am confused as to why it has suddenly appeared here and my usb's are no longer mounting.
I have been reading up around the internet that although it is possible to use MSTSC.exe under Windows XP to connect back to a Suse machine running XRDP (I believe).I had been working fine with Suse 11.0 until today. I had not made any changes to my local network but now whenever I try to connect in, I am told that I can not start the session as the sesman logon fails!
I tail'ed /var/log/messages but there is nothing written to that log when I try (interestingly enough, I do get the logon prompt that requests username, password and session type - I usually select KDE3 but have tried all options - and get the error after clicking OK).
My questions:-
1. Is XRDP under 11.1 any better (more stable as when it worked, I use to get kicked out a lot under 11.0)
2. What log file should I be trying to tail so I can see what is happening?
I must use Linux as the back end, I don't want to use a hacked copy of XP anymore and don't want to pay �� for a real version when Linux is free and should by now be able to grant me access to my network from a remote location!VNC is not an option as I will be wanting to log on more than one user at the same time.
I have OpenVPN 2.0.8 installed configured to Ethernet Bridge BR0. All windows outside machines can "see" and mount remote inside firewalled machines (i.e. \machine1 or [URL]). However I can't access to inside windows machines with windows Remote Desktop

I have to work in a computer that uses Suse 10.3 from another computer that uses Windows.What I am looking for is for some programe that works most similarly to windows remote desktop or logmein. Flash version 10.1.102, chrome version 6.0.472 So, my problem is that after a long while of having the browser open (any), flash player stops working properly (it's hard to describe but in ..... for example, the image and sound freeze for 5 seconds, in the next second everything happens at once, freezes 5 seconds again, shows all that frozen time in fast forward again, etc). This happens every a few hours of not closing the player's plugin I restart flash with the chrome task manager, reload the page, and it works properly again. I tried using firefox but I have the same problem (except I cant restart the flash plugin without restarting the browser).

But I also get desktop icons for the shared drives, which I don't like since I prefer a bare desktop. Sometimes I have deleted desktop icons from /usr/share/dist/... but these are not there.

After installation my video acted funny - the screen would occasionally blank when I opened a window, moved or resized a window, etc. It's as if the video driver decided to redraw the entire screen.
So I rebooted the live CD to see what was different and noticed this:
So it seems the 3D driver is an issue. Is there a way I can tell SUSE to just use the swrast 3D driver?
Minimizing bar gone as well as start button. How do I get these back?
