Feb 27, 2010I tried installing the RPM from tcpflow website. error: Failed dependencies: libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by tcpflow-0.21-1.i386 I installed libpcap1-32bit, but doesn't help. I tried added soft-link to libpcap.so.1.0.0 from libpcap.so.0.6.2 to workaround, doesn't help. hen I DLed the tarball, ./configure gives an error, even after including --with-pcap=/usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 checking for --with-pcap option... configure: error: /usr/lib64/libpcap.so.1.0.0 does not exist I CAN'T install the rpm, I CAN't compile from source. I can't find this program on any suse repo. I need to use this prog -- what can I do?

I think the problem is in the command perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs in section .../path/to/apache2/bin/apxs . What does mean ./path/to/apache2/bin/apxs? Maybe I should write the path to apache2 which contains a file named apxs? I did not find such file apxs. My apache2 path is /etc/apache2, but there is no file named apxs... Result for perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs:

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.3 - Cannot Access Files From Laptop (Request Timed Out)
Jul 25, 2010I'm running SUSE 11.3 on a Dell Inspiron 1501. I'm trying to network it with my Windows 7 and XP boxes. I've installed Samba, activated the services Samba needs and add myself as a Samba user. My problem is that I can see and access files on the laptop from both of my desktops running Windows, but when I try to access them from the laptop I get a message saying the server timed out whenever I try to access my workgroup.

OpenSUSE Network :: Weirdness With WordPress On Localhost - An Unexpected HTTP Error Occurred During The API Request
Nov 25, 2010I installed WordPress 3.x on my localhost/Apache server, but I can neither install plugins nor update anything.This happens with both the stable WP3.0 version and the 3.1 beta. When I try to search the Plugin Directory from the WP dashboard, I get this message: An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.When I run an update, I get a page asking for the login credentials for the ftp user ("To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host."). Since I'm part of the 'ftp' group on the system, I enter my system login information, click Proceed -- and get a blank page that does nothing.
I've gone to YaST, and I see that the system ftp user has a 6-character password (which may or may not be mine). I'm afraid to change it and risk screwing up other ftp-related functions. I'm running openSUSE 11.3, and am obsessive about updating. I will note that I have an old 2WIRE router that often requires me (including Zypper repos) to enter IP addresses instead of DNS-based URLs to successfully download stuff. Not sure if this is related, but just in case...

Jun 21, 2011I am new to Linux and I'm trying to install OpenSuse on my machine:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ / 2.0 GHz
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
512.0 MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Shared video memory (UMA)
DVD-RW 16X TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B drive
Western Digital WD3200AAJB 320GB Hard Drive
I downloaded the ISO for version 11.4-i586 DVD size from DirectLink on opensuse.org. I checked the Windows MD5CHECKSUM and verifyied it. The installation goes fine until it begins installing packages when it prompts:
"Insert Disc 1"
Which I believe is the Disc that I burned already with the ISO file and is in the DVD-ROM drive that it's asking for. This happens for several files, and prompt me to either
retry/skip/abort/cancel
If I click Retry I get "media1.media not found" or a similar message. If I click Abort/Skip/Cancel the installation stops and takes me to a text version of the installation which then stops and says that it can not find the Installation Package either.
I have looked for reasons behind this but all I could find was possibly Mounting the DVD-ROM but the installatin runs fine until it begins looking for specific files and says it can't find the files on the Disc, even though it's in the DVD drive.
OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Handle Kernel Paging Request At Ffffc90010b8000?
Aug 3, 2010I've been trying to install Opensuse 11.3 from the Kde live cd, but the installation hangs when I'm almost done. Right at the beginning the installation is interrupted right with text that among other things says:
Bug: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffc90010b8000. After a while though, the installation picks up and continues by itself. I'm then able to complete the necessary steps and I reboot the system so that it can complete the installation.
After reboot there is a new text message that says that the bios does not support EEC memory or something to that effect and then continues with the installation. When it has completed 82% of the autoconfiguration the installation just stops and stays that way.
I've had no problem installing previous releases, from 10.2 up to 11.2, on the same machine.
I've checked md5 sum and also checked the media before proceeding with the installation.
Upon reboot after the first installation step, I also tried the failsafe mode but got the same result.

Feb 12, 2011Having a problem with my Belkin wireless adapter when trying to stream music to my Pinnacle Soundbridge.The network connection is usually rock steady but drops anywhere between and few second and a few minutes after streaming music. Network manager still shows the connection to my home network as active but it is not. The connection comes back when I unplug the dongle and plug it back in. I found the following message repeated in the syslog

Only thing I have noticed is that it refers to rt2x00 when I had thought it used the rt73usb driver.Had the PC and the Soundbridge for a number of years without any problems but I did recently have to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch. Currently running Ubuntu 10.10

OpenSUSE Install :: Install A Recent Kernel And Then Compile Some Variations?
Jan 25, 2011I'm running 11.2 with standard repositories (plus packman). I want to install a recent kernel and then compile some variations of it (to investigate a hardware problem).
So I took these steps:
(1) add the 11.2 Kernel:/HEAD repository
(2) enable multiversion in zypp.conf
(3) use YaST software management to select the kernel development pattern
Note that at the moment, the standard 11.2 kernel ( 2.6.31.14-0.6-desktop) is in use and I have not selected any packages from HEAD. But it has installed 2.6.37-41.1 versions of all the kernel packages I didn't already have (source & docs etc) instead of the 2.6.31 versions. /usr/src/linux symlinks to linux-2.6.37-41 instead of to a directory for the running kernel!
(1) it should have loaded the packages corresponding to the running kernel
(2) it's not supposed to switch repositories

The gcc44-fortran is installed on my computer but if I have well understood, there is no g77 compiler in this package... OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Compile Working Kernel In 11.4 (Thinkpad X301)?
Apr 25, 2011This is completely baffling me..I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X301, which has been running OpenSUSE 11.1 for a while, with vanilla kernels from kernel.org, built and installed in the standard (i.e. not SUSE) way.
A week ago, I dupped to 11.2, and also installed kernel 2.6.38.4 . This was compiled with the gcc-4.3 available under 11.2. Everything worked fine (after the necessary messing around to get X working again).
This weekend, I dupped to 11.4 (via 11.3, of course). After more messing around to get X working again, things were working ok - using the same 2.6.38.4 kernel I'd built under 11.2. I then re-built the kernel. It appears to compile and install ok, and I haven't changed the configuration or the grub configuration. However, it doesn't load. Normally, I just get a blank screen after grub starts it loading. If I boot in basic VGA mode 0, then I get a few lines of messages before it hangs - it hangs complaining about APIC not connected to io bios, and if I boot noapic, it gets a few lines further before hanging after some message I don't know about (allocating 4 HET). I don't suppose that's relevant, anyway.
I've tried three different gcc versions, and two different linux versions (2.31 as well), and the same thing happens. This sounds like something going badly wrong with ld or as or something - but I don't see how anything could have happened that wouldn't have been noticed by thousands of others.

Apr 12, 2010After upgrading from opensuse 11.1 to 11.2 I get the following error messages while booting the system caused by the initial filesystem check routines:
ERROR: Couldn't open /dev/null (Too many open files)
ext2fs_check_if_mount: Too many open files while determining whether ... is mounted.
fsck.ext3: Too many open files while trying to open ...
I found a new version of the e2fsprogs at the OBS package claiming to fix this problem. But installing this new version did not solve my problem.
Here some information about the affected system:
Operating System:openSUSE 11.2 (i586)
Installed e2fsprogs:e2fsprogs-1.41.11-4.1.i586
Number of LVs:35 (all ext3)
I can only boot if I comment out some of the filesystems in my /etc/fstab. It seems that the number of filesystems must be less or equal 32.

Ubuntu Servers :: Controlling Files Listed By Directory Request
May 5, 2011I use Apache 2.0.55 (Ubuntu) as a document server for a business association. When the document files expire, I change the permissions so that only the owner can open them but I like to leave them on the server so that they are all in one place.
Here is my trouble--when visitors come to the site and get the directory listing, all the document files show up, whether the visitor can access them or not.
Is there some way to configure the server to not show the inaccessible files?
I guess a few technical details might help. During their useful lives, the files permissions are set to 644. Once they expire, I change them to 600. After the change, the files are still visible. Setting them to 000 doesn't help either.
It might be of note, but directories behave differently than files. If I set a directory to 600, it disappears from the listing.

Aug 3, 2010Attempting to compile an application that is not located in any of the repos yet for 11.3 64 bit. I have downloaded the appropriate src and untarred it. However, when I attempt to run the ./configure command here is the error I receive. checking build system type... Invalid configuration `x86_64-unknown-linux-': machine `x86_64-unknown-linux' not recognized configure: error: /bin/sh ./config.sub x86_64-unknown-linux- failed
I have made sure that I have all kernel-headers packages installed and am unsure as how to proceed. I tried using the command "./configure --build=x86_64" and then receive an error stating that the "SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED" and continued errors stating that gcc is not installed, eve though it is.
