OpenSUSE :: Unable To Update Security Patch
Jun 28, 2010
My system is trying to install security update, but I get the following message: A package could not that allows the task to complete.
Details are as follows:
patch:libfreebl3-2258.noarch conflicts with libfreebl3-32bit.x86_64 < 3.12.6-3.1.1 provided by libfreebl3-32bit-3.12.6-2.pm.6.2.x86_64

I have SuSE 11.2. There is a security patch for Mozilla NSS Library. However, I get told by YaST that the libfreebl3-3241.noarch conflicts with mozilla-nspr.i586. (There's also a patch for glibc but apparently, it is not "willing" to install this without installing the other patch first). Anyway, I did the following: zypper lp and then rpm -qi libfreebl3 and then zypper lr -d.
Here are the results:
Code:
zypper lp

All repositories have been refreshed. I don't know what to do. In order to update FireFox, (on Aug 1, 2010) I had to do as posted in this thread: (instructions by caf4926) Updating firefox. So, I followed these directions: ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing. Now what do I do?

In my update tray applet I often get a notification saying an update for my system is available and when I click for details the only patch listed is dummy Patch. Anyone know what or why this is? It's happening on my 11.1 and 11.2 machines.

I am whittling down my list of available YAST Online Updates for OpenSUSE 10.3. I get following error during automatic patch upgrade of my SuSE 11.2 to latest path revision. I assume it is due to the KDE 4.3.5 Update part of the patch set: compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 requires libkdecorations.so.4()(64 bit) but there are no providers. The package manager suggest to replace compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 with kwin-4.3.5-0.2.1.x86_64 but I don't want to loose compiz-kde. which repository I must add to resolve the dependency.

Yesterday I applied the su security patch to my openSuSE 11.2 x86_64 system. After applying the patch, any attempt at su failed, and after rebooting the system earlier this morning any login (root, user, otherwise) fails with a "Permission Denied".Is it possible that the su update somehow messed up my (standard) pam settings?

How can I make the security applet stop showing an update for firefox 3.5.9? I have a more recent version installed from mozilla repo: firefox 3.6. The mozilla repo already has a higher priority (95 instead of 99), so I don't know what to do.

This post concerns info found at [URL]. My question is: How do I get the patch. The author makes ref. to "his" git repo and the patch for TOR. I guess the patch allows the use of some compile time options that can harden the build. I looked through the change log of TOR and couldn't see any of the options referenced by Jacob in his post. I have read on the net that compile time hardening options are part of the gnu compiler, not the application to be compiled. Is this true?

When I am installing texlive package power gone suddenly. From that time onwards yum update command is not working. It is giving error as follows:

You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I already tried this commands but again I have problem:
yum-complete-transaction first
rpm -e texlive

Yesterday, 9/1/2010, I received a bunch of patch updates for 10.04 (64-bit) and applied them to my laptop (Dell Latitude E6510, Intel Core i5). After they applied, it asked me if I wanted to reboot now or later. I chose later to finish my work and then shut my laptop off. This morning, I turned it on, only to get a black screen during bootup and also during login. I know it's working behind the scenes because I can hear the drum sound when it's ready to login and I can still press the power button and hit enter to shut it down. I tried using Alt+F2->F12 but it would only show a black screen.
My temporary workaround was to hold the shift button during startup to get the grub menu and then select the older 2.6.32-23 kernel to bootup instead of the newer 2.6.32-24. I am able to boot ok in the older kernel and it's working fine, but I don't know what is causing the problem for the newer one and cannot boot into that one.
I believe I was running 2.6.32-24 fine up until I received a bundle of patches to apply to my system. So the question is, is there a way to figure out what patches were applied in yesterday's bundle so I can back them out? If not, how can I fix this so I can run the newer updated kernel?

This may be a stupid (?) question, but does any one know of a patch for sudo that allows the sudoers information to be pulled from mySQL?
I run multiple servers with multiple people working on them and would like a one-stop update of permissions.
Yes, I could use rsync or the like, but I'm just wondering if this has been done, or could be done.
(Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I'm kinda new around here, posting wise and this seemed to fit. Feel free to move it if it's not)

I generated a patchfile of 2 directories using this command:
Code:
diff -ur source-20110125 source > mailpatch3.patch
Now I would like to apply the patch, doing this:
Code:
patch -p1 < mailpatch3.patch
But it then asks me for the file to patch. Why? Something that looks strange to me in the patch file: there are a lot of "common subdirectories" lines. Like this:
Code:
Common subdirectories: source-20110125/ac_depository and source/ac_depository
Common subdirectories: source-20110125/ac_depository_jar and source/ac_depository_jar
Common subdirectories: source-20110125/_backoffice and source/_backoffice
[code]...

I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:

The libxml2 update specified by CVE-2010-4494 causes a notification that it will break Adobe AIR and TweetDeck on my machine. How can I blacklist this update so it won't keep showing up in the Updater applet? The applet says I should go into Yast and manually apply the update. When I do that and tell it not to apply the update, Yast exits and the Updater applet just tells me the update is still pending. I want to get rid of the update at least temporarily until Adobe fixes the dependency (assuming they ever do).
This is a major problem for me as I clearly don't intend to uninstall TweetDeck and AIR just for some security patch. Why didn't openSUSE test this patch for AIR compatibility?

I've been having this problem for a while now. Every time I try to update using
Code:
zypper up
or even by using YaST it stops midway. For example in using Zypper I get the following error
Code:
Retrieving: 11.2 [error]
Error: Download interrupted at 81%
History:
- [AbstractCommand.cc:195] URI=http://opensuse.uib.no/update/11.2/repodata/4ec3f2acdd863958479cbacbb5bc19f939e35099-deltainfo.xml.gz and it gives a list of URL's like the above.
I don't know what's wrong as I only have the following repositories, Packman, updates for opensuse 11.2, non-oss, oss. The URL for the update repository is Index of /update/11.2

Today I did the Seamonkey 2.1 update. I found out that some of the add-ons or extensions did not work. They were disabled, due to incompatible versions. I found out a simple solution. I hope this helps some. This helped me with the Webdeveloper, fxif and Novell Moonlight extensions. In the file install.rdf is an element called MaxVersion. Change this to 2.1.* and the extensions work again.
The file install.rdf is to be found in ~/.mozilla/seamonkey/user-thingies.default/extensions/{extensioncode}
The changed code for Moonlight looks like this:
Code:
<Description>
<em:id>{92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>2.0b1</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>2.1.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
Good luck if you are a Seamonkey user.
