OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Works On Live Cd Not After Install Intel 3945 Toshiba Satellite A105
Jul 3, 2011Wireless worked fine on live cd, but for some reason not after install. I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. Here is my wireless output information.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card
Dec 25, 2009My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Only Works On Certain Networks
Sep 15, 2010I have a wireless network at home. My home laptop connects without any issue.I have a wireless network at work. My work laptop connects without any issue.If I take my work laptop home, it can see the network but cannot connect to it. I've checked the passphrase and that's fine, I've deleted the network from the Network Manager profile and re-created it - no luck.
The only thing I can think of is that I had to change the wireless router network channel at one point. I think that the work PC could access the network before that (but it was a while ago). I've tried changing the channel back, but to no avail. I have to keep the channel at its new setting anyway to avoid a loss of signal.What sort of things should I be checking/changing to get home connectivity on my work PC? The wired network is fine, but my wife draws the line at me looming over her desk with a red cable plugged into the back of my laptop.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Works But Windows Wireless Doesn't?
Jul 11, 2011I recently re installed everything so I could dual boot. Well my wireless on my Ubuntu works but my wireless on my windows doesn't. I used my Toshiba recovery to re install some of the programs like Intel proset(wireless program) well it finds my router and everything but the connection is limited. When I click repair it doesn't work and proset finds my ip addresses but i don't know why it doesn't connect.

Apr 18, 2011While it worked out of the box in 11.3, openSUSE 11.4 does not recognize my TP-Link TL-WN821N any more.
Googling a bit, apparently the old ar9170 driver is deprecated and supposedly a new driver carl9170 is integrated in the kernel now, but since it is not working this cannot be quite right.
Unfortunately, I do not understand much of the instructions given at the above two URLs: Should I try to install the old ar9170 driver? If so, I found older, pre-11.4 posts here that seem to indicate that is not so simple as just copying a firmware file somewhere, so how can I install it in openSUSE 11.4? Or should I rather try getting the new carl9170 to work? If so, how can I do this if it is already supposed to be part of the kernel?
The 11.3 Net-Install (from CD) recognised that USB-WLAN-Stick all by itself, installing 11.3 just fine through the air. With 11.4 it didn't work. So I borrowed a WLAN bridge for a couple of days and installed 11.4 now (32bit plain install plus Packman), but even after the install, plugging in that Stick does not do anything.

May 10, 2011opensuse 10.4 KDE. wired internet works but the network manager is dead, there's a red network icon with a cross in the panel and opening the manage connections window only the VPN tab works all others are grayed out cant setup any wireless or mobile broadband connection. on the live cd there was no problem with network management.

Mar 30, 2010On my Acer netbook (AOA-150-1635) the wireless works fine with WinXP, Ubuntu, and used to work with Suse 11.1. I replaced the Suse 11.1 with a clean network install of Suse 11.2. I couldn't get the wireless to work and did another network install using the wireless. When the install was completed I could not get the wireless to work with Suse 11.2. When I run the "collectNWData.sh" it shows--

wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

I looked up error CD0120E and changed the network devices setup to "traditional". The wireless "scan" picked up the routers and I added the encryption keys. Still no joy. I ran "collectNWData.sh" again and it said it is better to use the Network Manager.

Going back to Yast, Network Devices, I set Network Manager. The result is that it is back to the beginning with "collectNWData.sh" giving the original error.
OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect To WEP Network, WPA Works Fine?
Sep 2, 2011I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. (attached below).Changing to WPA is not an option, as the network is not controlled by me. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Router is a D-Link DIR-613, and I know the passphrase I'm using is correct because it connects both on my Android (what else?) phone, and my lappy when I boot XP.

Nov 15, 2010I am super new to linux. I have tried a lot of distros but went with OpenSUSE11.3. I have both gnome and kde live cd. Now to the problem, When I put in the live cd and boot - the computer finds the wireless card and lets me connect to the internet. This works on both versions. But after clicking on the install icon the wireless no longer starts and then I cant get it to work. Maybe its something I should be doing. After all I am new to this.

Apr 28, 2011I am running my wifi using YAST and IFUP. The card is a zd1211, and works just fine. However lately I have have to "start" it manually after booting. The only way I have found to do this is to open YAST >network settings> and "edit" the card, but NOT change anything, just click through the next buttons and it connects. I have tried using the settings "on boot" and "on hotpug" but always when I reboot, I have to go through the YAST rigmarole. This is a PITA. I am trying to avoid NM as I want to sort this out, not cover it up with more software.

Jun 20, 2011I am trying to get a USB wireless device to work on my desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.1.
Here is what I have gathered after working through the sticky on getting my wireless to work:

Aug 12, 2010I have a Acer Revo R3610 nettop on which I installed oS11.3. It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.

Mar 14, 2011I had the Wireless Broadband working. It stopped working after I closed the laptop (suspend). Also the wifi will not connect until reboot. Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.

Mar 29, 2010I got ubuntu working fine on my netbook and wanted to play around with opensuse. I have it installed and everything works fine except my wireless connection. I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.
