OpenSUSE Wireless :: Get USB Device To Work On Desktop Computer?

Jun 20, 2011

I am trying to get a USB wireless device to work on my desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.1.

Here is what I have gathered after working through the sticky on getting my wireless to work:

In Yast Hardware Info:
USB:
UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_bda_8189_00e04c000001_if0
Note in boot log:
Failed services in runlevel 5: network

When I go into Yast/Network Devices/Network Settings, I can add a setting for this device but if I quit out of Yast and go in again the setting is no longer listed. What should I do next?

OpenSUSE Network :: Using Nx Client - See Exactly Same Desktop-taskbar And Open Programs As Left Them In Work Computer

Feb 7, 2011

I am using nx client and I would like to ask your help. Is it possible when I connect from home to my work's computer (using nx client) to see the exactly same desktop-taskbar and open programs as I left them in my work computer.

Imagine that you are at work using your computer. You lock the keyboard and you go home(you didn't turn it off). You go home and you login to work's computer. What I want to see is the same if I was just unlocking works's computer. IS that possible and how?

Ubuntu :: Wireless Bridge Between Laptop And Desktop Computer

Apr 22, 2010

So what I'm doing right now is I have my laptop connected through my wireless internet (Ubuntu 9.10), and I have a Xubuntu 9.10 Desktop right next to it with an ethernet cable going from my laptop to the desktop. Right now it says it's connected, but I can't connect to the internet. What I've done is I've gone on both computers and edited the settings for eth0 to share with computers, and I've even gone into the wireless settings on my laptop and edited it so Ivpc 4 setting's method was set to share with computers. I downloaded the bridge utility on my laptop but I don't know what to do with it exactly.

So here's the setup I've got going.
Wireless Router ----->Laptop -------->ehternet cable ---------> desktop computer.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

Dec 25, 2009

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

[Code]...

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: MSI Wind U100 Wireless Freezes Computer?

Oct 5, 2010

I'm not sure where to post this but seeing as how, at least as far as I can tell, the problem is related to the wireless card or drivers, I figure this is as good a place as any. On to the problem, I recently install openSUSE 11.2 Gnome on my MSI Wind U100 netbook. Everything appeared to work fine right after install, wireless and everything. However, soon after that I began having issues where the screen would freeze and I would be unable to do anything until I force restarted the computer.

Now I believe the problem is related to my wireless as this problem occurs most frequently when I am either downloading a lot of data over wifi or fiddling with the network. I have had it freeze many times while switching wireless networks or while experiencing wireless issues such as an intermittent connection. I may be completely wrong in my above analysis of the problem, but I figured i need to post somewhere to get started. If anyone feels this post may get more help in another forum, please just let me know.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting My Wireless Printer To Work - Unknown Device Connected To Router

Apr 27, 2010

I had previously been having loads of problems getting my wireless printer to work with Linux [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1453697]. Everything is working fine now. However, something that confused me is that whenever I tried to ping the printer _before_ I got it working, it would fail with a _different_ IP address. That is, the command 'ping x.y.z.3' would fail with a message saying it was unable to contact 'x.y.z.2'

Now I am looking at my router - for something unrelated - and I've noticed that rogue IP address shows up in the list of connected devices. It has a MAC address but for the device name it lists "<unknown>". Should I be concerned about this? how to figure out what this device is?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Ad Hoc Windows XP ICS - Ping The Desktop Doesn't Work

Feb 8, 2010

how to go about getting Ubuntu to receive an ad-hoc wireless ICS enabled connection. The internet connection is shared through a virtual machine running XP (with the USB wireless dongle under XP's control), on my desktop PC, in order to escape my ISP's no NAT policy. Ubuntu is on both the desktop PC (the sender), and the laptop (the receiver). The desktop and laptop also run windows 7. I managed to get my laptop Ubuntu to connect to my virtual machine XP, by setting the IP, subnet and gateway of all wireless devices, as was suggested in [URL] - I did use the Network Manager GUI, but pinging the desktop doesn't work.

Even with the IP configuration, Windows 7 on the laptop receives the internet fine. The next step is getting Ubuntu to receive. I can do any kind of configuration in a virtual machine, such as install Ubuntu. In virtual machine XP I used 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 1.1.1.1. On the laptop Ubuntu 192.168.0.2 same everything else. I understand nothing about networks. I know there is stuff I can do in the console, but how will Network Manager cope with me doing that?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Computer Crashes When Connecting To Internet?

May 20, 2011

This problem started a few days ago. Whenever I attempt to connect to a wireless connection via network manager, my computer completely crashes, going to a black screen with no input from keyboard or mouse. It forces me to reboot using the power switch. Everything works fine when I connect to an ethernet cable, so I am sure it's a problem with my wireless driver.

I already tried (successfully) reinstalling the ath9k driver via compat wireless as was the advice from other forums, but this had no effect. I'm currently running opensuse 11.4, and haven't had this problem until a few days ago

This problem seems a bit ridiculous for a task as simple as connecting to a wireless network, so I'm convinced that either there is some sort of relatively simple way of fixing it, or windows really is the only decent operating system out there..

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Must Be On During Boot Or It Will Not Work

May 11, 2010

I've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing. So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

Result of /sbin/lspci:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Cannot Connect To AP - Cant Get Wireless To Work

Jun 22, 2010

Suse on an (old even) laptop is even more fun that it is on a desktop. BUT, I still cant get my wireless to work! I have the Encore ENUWI-N3 USB adaptor. Suse sucessfully detects my USB device, recognize its a Wireless lan network adapter, installs it as such (gives it its driver) and adds my wireless menu under network manager. (it gives it the rt2x00) I can enable / disable the USB device from there (its light corroborates that.

So all in all, suse installs my wireless. But I CANNOT find any AP when I scan. Under the "scan" tool (under connec to wireless > A wireless network ect ect) I find no APs. Adding the SSID of the AP manually is of no help either. And the command sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan merely gives - "wlan1 Scan completed" and nothing else. Check ifconfig - not a frame sent/received.
