OpenSUSE Wireless :: IFUP Woes And Grief (set Up Looks Fine And Works But Won't Auto-connect)

Apr 28, 2011

I am running my wifi using YAST and IFUP. The card is a zd1211, and works just fine. However lately I have have to "start" it manually after booting. The only way I have found to do this is to open YAST >network settings> and "edit" the card, but NOT change anything, just click through the next buttons and it connects. I have tried using the settings "on boot" and "on hotpug" but always when I reboot, I have to go through the YAST rigmarole. This is a PITA. I am trying to avoid NM as I want to sort this out, not cover it up with more software.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect To WEP Network, WPA Works Fine?

Sep 2, 2011

I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. (attached below).Changing to WPA is not an option, as the network is not controlled by me. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Router is a D-Link DIR-613, and I know the passphrase I'm using is correct because it connects both on my Android (what else?) phone, and my lappy when I boot XP.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: RTL819SU Not Working With Ifup (needs Ifup-dhcp First)

Sep 29, 2010

After spending quite some time on this, I have narrowed it down to:

Adapter works OK with NetworkManager
Adapter works OK with ifup if I run iwconfig after ifup has finished

It eppears to be linked to another thread Probl me de r seau wifi / Network manager in that dhcp needs to be running. (So it may be a 'feature' of RTL819 adaptors) So I've finally worked out that I need to start dhcp first.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Sumvision SVW322U (rt3072 Chipset) Ifup Will Not Connect Howerer KDE NM Does

Sep 14, 2011

I have the above mentioned USB Wifi Dongle Bus 002 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless Adapter It works extremely well using the KDE network manager but just will not connect using ifup traditional method through yast.

Initially it was using the RT2870 driver but this only gave wirelessg speeds (and still no ifup) but after blacklisting RT2780 and using RT5370sta driver draftn speed was achieved using KDE network manager however I still could not connect through ifup. The dongle scans and sees networks using ifup but will just not connect properly (NB security WPA2-AES).

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Works Fine On XP / Ubuntu / 11.1 But Not For 11.2

Mar 30, 2010

On my Acer netbook (AOA-150-1635) the wireless works fine with WinXP, Ubuntu, and used to work with Suse 11.1. I replaced the Suse 11.1 with a clean network install of Suse 11.2. I couldn't get the wireless to work and did another network install using the wireless. When the install was completed I could not get the wireless to work with Suse 11.2. When I run the "collectNWData.sh" it shows--

!!! CND0120E: Network card wlan0 has no IP address
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

[code].....

I looked up error CD0120E and changed the network devices setup to "traditional". The wireless "scan" picked up the routers and I added the encryption keys. Still no joy. I ran "collectNWData.sh" again and it said it is better to use the Network Manager.

!!! CND0180I: The system can't ping external IP address 195.135.220.3
!!! CND0150E: There might be a problem with the default gateway definition 10.1.1.1 on interface eth0

[code]....

Going back to Yast, Network Devices, I set Network Manager. The result is that it is back to the beginning with "collectNWData.sh" giving the original error.

OpenSUSE Network :: Knetwork Manager No WLAN - Ifup Working Fine

Mar 29, 2010

I have searched around a bit for a knetwork manager issue I am having on my opensuse 11.2 32 bit install. My wireless card is an 04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) I am currently using the Broadcom wl driver

I am on the Internet with this machine as I am typing using the older "ifup" method. I am having great difficulty connecting to the Internet when I use knetwork manger though. The strange part is when I am connected to my router with knetwork manager, I can log into my Router, but I can not get to any web-page/ping any outside address.

so far the best (I was able to locate) advice I was able to get is located in this post. < Broadcom wireless, partchy internet - openSUSE Forums > following a posted how to to disable IPV6 (I suspect this may be the issue??), I was unable to locate modprobe.conf, or modprobe.conf.local, even after I updated via updatdb. I gave a shot at entering in "disable_ipv6=1" into "menu.lst". However, this did not solve my issue with knetwork manager. If my network information is needed when I am "connected" utilizing knetwork manager

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To The Internet When (connection Works Fine In Windows XP)?

Apr 30, 2010

I installed Ubuntu (10.04) today and it has gone smoothly except for the fact that I can't connect to the Internet when in Ubuntu (connection works fine in Windows XP). I am using a wireless USB card (Linksys WUSB600N) to connect.

The weird thing is that the card detects all the local networks, asks me for a password to my network, and it even says it is connected to my network after I put the password in -- but when I open Firefox no pages will load.

There is another weird quirk as well: Ubuntu will not restart or shut down properly (it hangs around indefinitely with the little white / orange dots going across the screen) unless I first remove the wireless card from the USB slot. But that doesn't bother me as badly as the lack of Internet.

General :: Wireless Works Fine In LXDE But Not Icewm Or Openbox?

Jan 15, 2011

I have an older laptop (P4 Compaq Presario 2110; 512mb RAM) on which I installed Lubuntu 10.10. I am using a Buffalo wireless G PCMCIA card (Broadcom 43xx chip set) on the LXDE side which works perfectly. Out of curiosity I installed 'icewm' and 'openbox.' My wireless card shows when I check lspci as "UP." Using wicd, I can see networks, but my router will not resolve an IP address. NetworkManager does nothing.

I have tried using both ifconfig and iwconfig commands with no love.

Is this something inherent with lighter WMs and desktops? Is there a means to allow my router assign an IP and why would it be different for a different WM? Should the IP address be assigned to the computer?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Traditional (ifup) And Networkmanager Using KDE 11.4

Mar 13, 2011

I have just installed 11.4 KDE (having used 11.3 for a while). I was able to use YAST in 11.3 to switch from network manager, to using 'traditional', to connect to wireless network without problems. Since installing (fresh install) 11.4, only network manager seems to work without issue;

using traditional never sets up the wireless connection - or should i say appears not to as no apps will connect (as they do fine using the network manager connection). using 'ifstatus wlan0', seems to suggest there is no configuration file when using the 'traditional' gui. Has any one had similar problems

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Ifup And Network Manager Are Not Using Defined Ssid?

Feb 19, 2011

I just installed OpenSuSE 11.3 on an old IBM T20 I had kicking around and I'm using a Proxim Wireless PCMCIA Card (Atheros AR5001X). Since this laptop does not have a DVD drive I installed the system using the Netboot CD and have the SuSE 11.3 ISO on an NFS/SAMBA file server. The issues appeared after the first reboot, the adapter no longer worked. I resorted to using the wired interface to finish the install.

Once the system was up followed the trouble shooting steps outlined in various places and found the ESSID is not being picked up by the ifup scripts. Not sure if it matters but I have ESSID broadcasts turned off on all my WAPs.

The ESSID is in ifcfg-wlan0. To get wireless working I have to manually issue iwconfig wlan0 essid "xxxx"..

Both networkmanager and ifup fail..

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Second Screen Fails In 11.4 (but Works Just Fine In Ubuntu)

Apr 11, 2011

System:Tri-head, dual-card: GeForce 9500 GT, GeForce 8400 GS
Dual-boot: openSUSE 11.4, Ubuntu Natty
Driver: nvidia proprietary (260.19.44 in openSUSE, 270.30 in Ubuntu due to kernel version)
xorg.conf: same for both
Results: All three heads work just fine in Natty; secondary screen fails in openSUSE:

Code:
[25.164] (EE) NVIDIA(1): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:2:0:0. Please
[25.164] (EE) NVIDIA(1): check your system's kernel log for additional error
[25.164] (EE) NVIDIA(1): messages and refer to Chapter 8: Common Problems in the

[25.164] (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
[25.164] (II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
[25.164] (II) UnloadModule: "fb"

But nothing is jumping out at me in the output of dmesg. I also don't see any additional system or kernel logs in /var/log. I'll google some more on that front. One other fun fact: nvidia-settings fails to run in openSUSE. Unless I launch it under gdb. Then it starts up and runs as expected. (And the second screen ain't there, as expected.) Here's (what I think are) the relevant items:
Xorg.0.log - Pastebin.com
dmesg - Pastebin.com
xorg.conf - Pastebin.com
Additional output available upon request.

OpenSUSE Network :: WiFi Internet Works Fine But Limited Connectivity Elsewhere?

Feb 22, 2010

I'm using 11.2 with KDE.

I can connect to the Internet on my WLAN just fine (using Opera) and can dload torrent files (using the same).

However, I have had trouble accessing some community repositories in the past, cannot synchronise with an NTP server (annoying since my battery is low and time and date are reset most reboots) and cannot use the lyrics function or Wikipedia function in Amarok. Nor can I connect to the net using Firefox (though conqueror works just fine...) I cannot download torrents on KTorrent either.

It seems that there is some sort of 'permission'/connectivity issue.

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Browse Internet At University / Works Fine In Windows

Same with my university's Ethernet: I get a valid IP address, but I can't connect to the internet. When I browse to any site with Chromium/Chrome/ Firefox/lynx/curl, the page is stuck at "Sending request". I have tried disabling my firewall - that didn't solve anything.I don't know what else I can try and the campus' network administrators are puzzled. How can I resolve my issue?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Blank Screen Using Nvidia Drivers - Nv Driver Works Fine

Dec 10, 2009

I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on an Intel DQ35JO motherboard and XFX 9500GT 512MB video card. After installation the desktop looked fine on the Sony LCD TV I have connected to the 9500GT via a DVI to HDMI cable.

After the first reboot after installation I added the Nvidia repository via the add community repository function in the software sources option in YaST2. I then proceeded to install the Nvidia G02 drivers and the nvidia-settings package. At this point after a reboot I would get a blank screen. Hitting ctrl-alt-F1/F2/F3/F4/F5/F6 has no effect, I could not get any of the virtual consoles to appear. I had to SSH into the box and reboot into runlevel 3.

Once I had rebooted into runlevel 3 I logged in as root and executed "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia" and got an error message that the configuration server could not be started. I tried executing "sax2 -r -m 0=vesa" and received the same error:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Won't Auto Connect?

Jan 28, 2011

I've been trying to get and old PCI wireless card to work on Ubuntu 10.04. The card is a Zonet 1602. It was not recognized automatically.

I have been able to get it to work using ndiswrapper except that when the computer is started it does not automatically connect to the network. I can click on the network icon and select my network from a list and it will connect, including properly authenticating the network key.

I have worked through a lot of information on the web but much of it seems to apply to earlier versions of Ubuntu and some if it does not match what I'm seeing in 10.04.

There is a built in Ethernet controller on the mother board but I have disabled it in the BIOS.
