OpenSUSE Wireless :: Realtek RTL8187B Connects To Network But No Internet?

Jan 7, 2010

Got a laptop with a RTL8187B wlan card, installed opensuse 11.2 on a 50gb partition. Card was detected straight away but only connects when I enter ip addresses manually, DHCP don't work.

When it is connected it always stays at a speed of 1mb/s and it cannot ping my router or anything else.

Me kernel is 2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop

Searched around the forums but no love, tried compat-wireless but it started crying about dependencies. Modprobed it too..

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect To WEP Network, WPA Works Fine?

Sep 2, 2011

I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. (attached below).Changing to WPA is not an option, as the network is not controlled by me. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Router is a D-Link DIR-613, and I know the passphrase I'm using is correct because it connects both on my Android (what else?) phone, and my lappy when I boot XP.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Make Things Quicker For Resume From Standby Or Hibernation?

Jul 1, 2010

Running Opensuse 11.1 on an HP laptop. When I resume from hibernation or standby, I usually have to wait for about a minute for the wireless card to find my router. Is there any way to speed up this time to connect process ?

Interestingly when I boot from cold, the wireless connection is most times ready to go as soon as the boot has finished. So just wondering how I can make things quicker for resume from standby or hibernation

OpenSUSE Wireless :: IFUP Woes And Grief (set Up Looks Fine And Works But Won't Auto-connect)

Apr 28, 2011

I am running my wifi using YAST and IFUP. The card is a zd1211, and works just fine. However lately I have have to "start" it manually after booting. The only way I have found to do this is to open YAST >network settings> and "edit" the card, but NOT change anything, just click through the next buttons and it connects. I have tried using the settings "on boot" and "on hotpug" but always when I reboot, I have to go through the YAST rigmarole. This is a PITA. I am trying to avoid NM as I want to sort this out, not cover it up with more software.

Ubuntu :: System Refuses To Connect To The Network / Internet

Jun 1, 2010

So I've recently installed Kubuntu 10.04, and after the first and second runs, the system refuses to connect to the network/internet. I'm not sure why this is, or how to fix it. It shows up in ifconfig, but other than that I'm at a loss. The Knetworkmanager applet says "Disabled" when I hover over it, and no connection can be made to the internet (apt, Firefox). I'm running x86, with a Biostar T5XE mainboard (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D network chipset). The logs don't seem to indicate a problem, though I could be wrong. The connection is known good: it connected before, but it won't now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin Wireless Refuses To Connect?

Jun 15, 2010

I was dual booting with XP and Jackalope using a Belkin N wireless USB. The install on Jackalope was simple, a plug and play type situation, plugged it in and it worked. A few days ago though, i wiped the whole computer and installed Lynx. To my dismay, even though Lynx sees the wireless, sees the available signals, lets me input my password... it fails to connect. It just spins and spins and eventually asks for my password again...

I'm still pretty new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general. I updated, and pretty sure i retrieved 3rd party drivers for the video card properly (using a cable connection), but thats pretty close to where my "expertise" ends.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To The Internet When (connection Works Fine In Windows XP)?

Apr 30, 2010

I installed Ubuntu (10.04) today and it has gone smoothly except for the fact that I can't connect to the Internet when in Ubuntu (connection works fine in Windows XP). I am using a wireless USB card (Linksys WUSB600N) to connect.

The weird thing is that the card detects all the local networks, asks me for a password to my network, and it even says it is connected to my network after I put the password in -- but when I open Firefox no pages will load.

There is another weird quirk as well: Ubuntu will not restart or shut down properly (it hangs around indefinitely with the little white / orange dots going across the screen) unless I first remove the wireless card from the USB slot. But that doesn't bother me as badly as the lack of Internet.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: 11.2 Virgin Broadband Can't Connect To Internet?

Apr 27, 2010

I have just recently installed Open SUSE 11.2 from a CD I got from a Linux Magazine.Installed this fine as a dual-boot machine on my HP laptop. To access the Internet, I have normally used 2 ways:1. WIFI Connection via my home desktopUsing Netgear WG111v3 USB Adapter.2. Virgin Broadband USB Mobile Broadband stickI have no problem connecting this via my Windows Vista operating system.Somehow, under Open SUSE 11.2, this is a problem. 2. Virgin Broadband - I managed to get the Virgin Broadband icon of a mobile phone saying that it's connected and "Active" by keying in the number "*99#", username/password as blank and APN as VirginBroadband". However, when I launch Firefox browser, I couldn't get to any external Website even though the icon for the Virgin Broadband says that it's Active and connected.

So what's the problem ?1. WIFI Connectivity to Home Desktop WIFI - with this I have never never got any connection at all. It kept saying "Activating" and I have set up the connection and entered the WEP 128-bit paraphrase hex digits. I managed to scan and got the correct SSID and as I know they belong to my desktopI read somewhere that Netgear WG111v3 is not compatible with Open Suse 11.2 and will need to install the driver for this. So I did obtain the .INF file and installed ndiswrapper -i with the .inf file.. However, still not successful.I'm thinking of buying a Belkin USB Adapter which is in the list of compatible USB WIFI Adapter for Open Suse 11.2 - .. the 802.11g chipset.. as I couldn't get this to work

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Exchanged Modem/router For Same Model But Now Cannot Connect To Internet Using WEP

Dec 1, 2010

I had an ATT "2Wire" modem/router that was working but connection to the Internet was often poor. An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...

My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.

I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.

Network settings screen:
Global options tab:
Network setup method: user controlled with Network Manager
Change default route via DHCP (ticked)

[code]....

Why won't the new modem/router which is exactly the same as the old one except for the ESSID and WEP work with my lappy yet it does work with a bunch of other wireless devices?

General :: Ubuntu 8.10 Not Working With RTL8187b Wireless?

Mar 20, 2010

I've been using linux for about a year but I'm not a programmer or anything. I recently got a Toshiba Satellite L550 that has a Realtek 802.11b/g wireless LAN. I am using ubuntu 8.10 and everything I've read on this forum and others states that this version of ubuntu can use this device. However, it seems that my system doesn't even know the device is there. When I run "sudo lshw -C network", I get this:

None of the descriptions show a wireless device? I'm not sure what this means or what the next step is. My wired connection works fine.

However, I have had trouble accessing some community repositories in the past, cannot synchronise with an NTP server (annoying since my battery is low and time and date are reset most reboots) and cannot use the lyrics function or Wikipedia function in Amarok. Nor can I connect to the net using Firefox (though conqueror works just fine...) I cannot download torrents on KTorrent either.

It seems that there is some sort of 'permission'/connectivity issue.

Same with my university's Ethernet: I get a valid IP address, but I can't connect to the internet. When I browse to any site with Chromium/Chrome/ Firefox/lynx/curl, the page is stuck at "Sending request". OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Works Fine On XP / Ubuntu / 11.1 But Not For 11.2

Mar 30, 2010

On my Acer netbook (AOA-150-1635) the wireless works fine with WinXP, Ubuntu, and used to work with Suse 11.1. I replaced the Suse 11.1 with a clean network install of Suse 11.2. I couldn't get the wireless to work and did another network install using the wireless. When the install was completed I could not get the wireless to work with Suse 11.2. When I run the "collectNWData.sh" it shows--

!!! CND0120E: Network card wlan0 has no IP address
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

[code].....

I looked up error CD0120E and changed the network devices setup to "traditional". The wireless "scan" picked up the routers and I added the encryption keys. Still no joy. I ran "collectNWData.sh" again and it said it is better to use the Network Manager.

!!! CND0180I: The system can't ping external IP address 195.135.220.3
!!! CND0150E: There might be a problem with the default gateway definition 10.1.1.1 on interface eth0

[code]....

Going back to Yast, Network Devices, I set Network Manager. The result is that it is back to the beginning with "collectNWData.sh" giving the original error.
