Networking :: Laptop Wireless Won't Connect In KDE But Works In Gnome (Fedora 13)

Jun 28, 2010

After searching/googling for information related to the topic, I haven't been able to get this working in KDE. Background: I have a Dell Studio 1745 with builtin Intel 5100bg wireless card. It connects to my Linksys WRT54G router just fine in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 using either KDE or Gnome. In Fedora 13 it only connects under Gnome, not KDE. Those are using NetworkManager. Using traditional ifup only works in Fedora under Gnome, i.e. nothing works under KDE in Fedora.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless: Can't Associate With Access Point In Kde, Wireless In Gnome Works Fine?

one of these "WiFi works in Gnome, not in KDE" threads, but I have been all over google and hundreds of threads across different sites and can't figure this one out.As mentioned, wireless is peachy in Gnome, unfortunately I like KDE and I'm more productive using it (when I have internet). Wired network works fine in KDE, and my network card

I Just recently installed the Kubuntu desktop from the repos and tried to connect to my internet wirelessly and for some reason it can't establish a connection. Is there some option I don't know about that was being set for me automatically before?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Wpa/wpe Doesn't Work On KDE But Works On Gnome

Mar 22, 2010

I've recently installed KDE 4.4.1 just to try on a Dell 1545 laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 previously installed.

My problem is that the wireless connection works just perfectly with nm-applet under Gnome, but when I login on KDE and ask KNetworkManager to connect to the same network as before, it can't finish the connection.

When I choose the connection the program asks for my passphrase, I type it and then it just sticks on "activating network" and nothing happens.

My experience with KDE is zero, so I don't even know where to start looking. I'd even tried to kill KNetworkManager and try to replace it with nm-applet, but I think there's a daemon that restarts it immediately.

Ubuntu Networking :: Laptop's Wireless Card Can See Access Points But Can't Connect

Jan 15, 2011

I'm not exactly sure if this should be here and not in the Hardware & Laptops section, but seeing as my only problem is with WiFi, I'm guessing this is the right place. Under Ubuntu, my laptop (an Asus K42Ja, more details below) can see wireless networks normally. However, when I attempt to connect, it fails to establish a connection. Under Windows on the same laptop (dual boot), no problems are experienced.

According to this, there's a firmware bug in my wireless chip which causes connections to get dropped. I'm not getting connections at all, but I still tried the workarounds on that page with no luck. The router is a TP-Link TL-WR340G. My previous laptop, a really old one from 2003 running Ubuntu 9.10 was able to connect to that router without problems. The wireless card was Intel on that as well (but, of course, much older). The router is set up to use WPA for security. I didn't use WPA2 as I read something a while ago about problems with WPA2 and some Linux distros. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

If anyone's curious, I'm posting this on Ubuntu, via an ethernet cable to the router mentioned earlier. Some tasty technical bits: dmesg (the latter half of the "timed out" messages is me retrying after double-checking the WPA key)

Fedora :: IPhoneModem Setup - Connect Laptop And Iphone To New Wireless Network?

Feb 23, 2009

This will allow you to use iphones' data plan as a wireless access point. Currently setup instructions are only posted for windows/mac using a helper app to configure the laptop. Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:

a) SSID = "iPhoneModem"
b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)

Connect laptop and iphone to new wireless network. Start iphonemodem app on iphone. The "traffic" does not update; the "status" says "Wrong Wifi Network"; and the signal strength says 0%. However, the network connection should be there as long as you have a data signal to your service provider.

Networking :: Debian Wireless - DHCP At Startup - Can't Connect Once In Gnome

Apr 14, 2010

I am trying to get my intel pro wireless 3945abg working on this Lenny installation. My progress is as follows:

No wireless & LED (on the physical switch) won't turn on
installed NdisWrapper and netw5x32 driver
installed package "firmware-iwlwifi_0.14+lenny2_all.deb"

[code]....

Still no wireless, but when DHCPDISCOVER runs at startup, it is apparently assigned an IP address using wlan0. This only happens when the cable (eth0) isn't plugged in (eth0 is set to static) which leads me to believe that the wireless really does work for DHCPDISCOVER.

What I want to know so that I can mess about with it more is how do I switch between drivers? What I have been doing here is

Code:

modprobe -r [old driver]

and then

Code:

modprobe [new driver]

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Works With Open AP But Not WPA2 AP / Sort It?

Jul 21, 2010

I am using the Fedora 13 Live USB on my Gateway MT6451 laptop. All the major things you want to work on a laptop with linux actually work! Even my Broadcom wireless card! But even though I can see wireless networks and connect to ones that are open with no problem, I can't actually connect to my Hidden WPA2 network. I put all the information in and it connects, shows a good signal, but doesn't acquire the correct IP. I have a 192.168.X.X address range on my network, but it shows a 10.X.X.X ip and no Gateway address.

If I can get this one thing working I will definitely be installing Fedora.

Wireless modem is connected to my desktop computer with LAN cable, and trough the wireless connection to the laptop. I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Somedays it works well for a few minutes then has a period of inactivity - then slow - randomly receives...It worked flawlessly when the computer was running Windows7 no one else has connectivity issues but I'm the only one using Linux.
