OpenSUSE Network :: Way To Get Wireless To Work Over VMware And In SUSE
Jan 18, 2010I just installed SUSE in a VMware to test it out. A problem i've had with VMware before was getting the wireless to work. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the wireless to work over the VMware and in SUSE. I know this may not particularly be a SUSE question but all I saw in the VMware forums was one response that said it was not possible.

May 8, 2010i installed suse (KDE) on my old notebook and now I'm trying to get the wlan to connect to our router and can't figure out how to get it to work. My card seems to work, the network manager even finds the router, but i just cant get a connection. I followed the steps of the "Getting Your Wireless to Work" thread and these are the results:

- i tried a usb-wlan-card as an alternative, which didn't work either, but could possibly have messed things up even more.
OpenSUSE Wireless :: Lenovo W510 Connect To Home Wifi But Not 802.1X Work Network
Oct 8, 2010I recently got a lenovo w510 laptop and I installed openSUSE 11.3 KDE on it. the wireless works fine at home (802.11g WPA2) when I go to work I have tried to set up the wifi for the 802.1X PEAP network but it doesn't look like it even tries to connect.
The work network set up is as follows. non-brodcasting SSID (do I need to tell network manager of this? I manually enter the SSID no problem)
Dynamic WEP 802.1X
PEAP
blank anonymous identity
no CA cert (I suspect this might be the problem)
PEAP v 1
MSCHAPv2
I have verified my username and pw several times, as well as the SSID. Just yesterday I helped a co-worker get on the network under ubuntu and it worked like a charm.
The Hardware profile displays the wifi card as a "WiFi Link 6000 Series" It is an intel card.

Nov 8, 2010Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

Apr 8, 2010I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

Jun 25, 2010In short: browsing the internet with domain names does not work. The long version: I've configured my network with DHCP and ifup. Ping works on my internal net and with servers in the internet. Dig work's too! I get the right IP to the requested domain. When i try to access the internet using firefox or even wget i get an DNS error. For example wget is showing the following error: Resolving heise.de... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address 'heise.de'
Again dig show me the right IP and if i add the entry to /etc/hosts it work's too! I've even tried it with manually setup of ip address, nameserver and default gateway but with the same result. Switching off the firewall has no effect on this problem, too.
OpenSUSE Network :: No Network Connection After Firwall Settings Changed / Get It To Work?
Nov 17, 2010I deleted the firewall files "K09SuSEfirewall2_init", "K01SuSEfirewall2_setup", "S11SuSEfirewall2_setup" and "S01SuSEfirewall2_init" from "/etc/rc.d/rc5.d" in order to disable the firewall when rebooting.
As a consequence all network services are not working. I can't connect to any other machine nor to the internet.
I rebuilt the symbolic files based on the ones for runlevel 3, but still no network services are available.
Any suggestions how to make it work again? I'm using Suse 11.3.

Now I don't have network connection in home,I have to install the Squeeze,and get my wifi work to do the further update at any cybercafe with wifi hotspot. Sep 14, 2010I have an OpenSuSE 11.1 in vmWare ESX and every other boot I can't access any running network services (ssh, webmin, qmail, mysql, ...) from outside. I just need to login, reboot and voila - network services are working.I gradually updated to 11.2 and 11.3 by following the wiki with success but this problem remained. So I reverted to snapshot of 11.1 and now I would like to identify and solve the problem here first.I also looked at /var/log/messages /var/log/boot.msg /var/log/lastlog but can't find anything usefull. I will now compare those files from the working and non-working boot but meanwhile someone already has an idea or experience what could be wrong?

Mar 10, 2011After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
Now my wifi works fine.

Apr 4, 2010I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

May 28, 2011When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.
I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.
