OpenSUSE Network :: Ftp Client Can't Upload - Lacks Permission On Its Own Machine

Have a pureftp server on OpenSuse 11.2 (x86-64 bit), KDE 4.3.5, dual core AMD. It responds to ftp clients on another machine (openSuse 11.1) within the same subnet (192.168....) and delivers lists of directories, changes directories, etc. The clients (gftp, jftp, filezilla, dolphin--tried them all) are unable to upload to the server (after a successful log-in on the server as a user, not root) with an error message that seems to indicate an inability to open the file on the client machine. Also logged in as user on the client machine. From FileZilla:
Command:STOR FCtinyLogo2.jpg
Response:553-Can't open that file: Permission denied
Response:553 Rename/move failure: No such file or directory
What am I missing in permissions? The directory where the JPG is located belongs to the user who is signed in, its in his home directory. The users on the two machines are not the same.

I have a 11.1 NFS server and several 11.1 NFS clients. If for some reason the server shuts down before the clients then the clients become almost frozen, particularly KDE is rendered useless even after cycling back to init 3 then init 5. I would like to make the clients immune to shutdowns on the server.

I have a problem with uploading any file to my Suse 11.1 with vsftpd. The active (not commented out) settings in my /etc/vsftpd.conf are:
dirmessage_enable=YES
chroot_local_user=YES
local_enable=YES
anonymous_enable=NO
syslog_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
pasv_enable=YES
listen=YES
ssl_enable=NO
And I added umask 022 to the user login script problem I have: I login with user and password that exists as a local user on my suse machine. I can read and download from my homedirectory, but I cannot upload with filezilla. Then I get the error: 550 permission denied critical file transfer error

All internet browsing function are ok, but when I try to upload file using sftp to a remote compute - it hangs. This is not a problem of remote computer. Download is working ok. I disabled firewall on wireless router but this did not help.

But when performing this I got FATAL: Module capability not found. So what I'm using is openSuSE11.2 with 2.6.31.14-0.2-default kernel. Vsftp version is 2.0.7-5.2.1 How can I introduce this capability module into the kernel? Or do I not need it?

I've got that vsftpd running on a ubuntu 9.10 machine. Although I cannot upload any file, I always get a "550: Permission denied"-error.

I have got centos 5.3 running on my system. I have installed vsftpd and created a separate folder to upload files (upload folder created in/var/ftp/pub). From my client end I can download ftp files but when I try to upload files from my client I get a error message 550: permission denied. The upload folder has full permission ie 777. Checked the ftp config file everything looks ok.

I have the following problem:I have to networks in remote places.I have an opnvpn client in one network that connects to the the router (openvpn server).My question is,can i connect the network where the openvpn client is,throught the computer with the client to the other network.If yes,how? I have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

I have proftpd @ Ubuntu 9.04 server. It authenticates users via Auth file, e.g. those are "FTP only" users, not real linux users. Each of them has assigned home dir in the same auth file. They also get Chrooted into it, e.g. default dir is ~ in proftpd.conf They can connect and download files successfully, however, they cannot upload anything or create directory: 550 permission denied error.
When I login via ssh and change user to proftpd user, I can create directories in that particular place, so I guess it's not Linux permissions problem? Or is it? /var/log/daemon.log is the place where proftpd stores its logs, but I cannot find anything relevant there

Ksysguard has always before shown a process table on one tab and the system load charts on a second tab. Loading Ksysguard produces an error message: "The file /home/*/.kde4/share/apps/ksysguard/Processtable.sgrd does not contain valid XML." That file contains nothing, as it's size in Dolphin is 0. Have updated KDE in Yast; removed Ksysguard 4 (which installed ver. 3) then re-installed ver 4. Still lack the process table.
This is OpenSuse 11.4 on a Toshiba A665 laptop. In other respects the system works perfectly, well almost. I'm examining a large number of files recovered by scalpel from a disk image created by ddrescue. This problem appeared while working through the nnnnnnnn.doc files. Most of them open in LibreOffice, but some produce an error message ("Not a Word 95 document"), open as slides (which is OK), or seem to freeze LO (with a CPU core at 100% in ksysguard). Lacking the process table, I'm having trouble killing the LO process (ps doesn't deliver the process number as expected; still studying it).

I ftp into the server and see the files, but when i try to make a directory or upload a file it returns an error saying that permission is denied.I am wanting the users to be able to log on with their user account and then be able to have full control over their directories. What can i do to fix this problem?I have enabled port forwarding for ftp. What else is there i can do? If you need any extra information, let me know! I installed proftpd on my Ubuntu 10.10 install. I also run multiple websites that I want to allow ftp access to for 2 different users. The websites are located in /home/www/. This is where the guide I was following told me to put them. I also don't have a user named www.How can I give write permission to upload, delete, and edit all the files in /home/www/ for multiple users? They can connect to the ftp server and see the file, just not change them.

I installed OpenSuSE 11.3. The only "extra" package I put in after the install was VirtualBox-ose. The firewall is disabled. I gave the machine a static IP address. I can get to the Internet from the machine. I enabled sshd to start on boot with "chkconfig sshd on" and also verified the service is running on the machine. I can ssh user@localhost from the machine as well.
When I try to connect to SSH from another machine, I get a connection refused. I verify that the firewall is down. I also try to get to VNC -- same problem: Connection refused. I ping the machine for fun. If I try to SSH again, it sometimes gives me a logon? I would check the server logs for the connection refused, but I wouldn't know where to look. I started in /var/log/messages, but nothing seemed to jump out there. I also find it strange because I can RDP to a windows guest running under VirtualBox. The Windows guest uses Bridged Network and DHCP.
I also find it interesting that I sometimes type a "ping google.com" from the 11.3 box and it will just hang - no output. Then I open firefox and get to the internet. All of a sudden, ping starts to give output. Could this be a neetwork card issue? A configuration issue? I don't know where to start.

Recently loaded 11.3 onto a virtual machine, however none of the network settings will allow me to connect to the internet. First time Ive had this happen, other distro's Ive experimented with connected with no problems. I recall seeing a similar topic some time ago (dont remember if it was here or another forum), but at the time, there had been no fix. Anyone know if this has been fixed?

i have client and server PCs, both with openSuse 11.2.
on the server side, i have mounted HD partition to /vmshare dir. relevant line in /etc/fstab reads:

i want to export /vmshare dir via nfs. i have configured it through yast and resulting line in /etc/exports reads:

the permissions for this directory is drwxrwxr-x root vmshare.
i can successfully mount the exported dir on client side, i can move between directories and list contents, but i can't write into it (not even as a root). on the server side, i can write to the directory only as root. the vmshare group is created on both machines with same gid as well as all users have same uids. firewalls are down.y.

I am completely new to Linux and picking things up slowly. I have a question about mounting my NAS NV+. When I mount it, i use the following commands when logged on as user "matt":

GRUMPY is the name of my NAS by the way! It mounts properly, BUT i cannot delete or rename files, so basically the user "matt" has read only privileges, and root has ownership of the mount. How do I go about mounting these so that user "matt" has RW privileges?
When I log on as root user and mount them, I can read and write as required, so this has led me to believe that my problem lies in my permissions for matt when mounting them... I posted on the netgear forum and was asked to try and mount using the following command:

I'm trying to set up an openSUSE 11.2 host as NIS client and I would like to knowwhether or not it can be client of two (or more) NIS domains. The reason is thatsome users are authenticated on server1 (nis-domain1) and some others on server2(nis-domain2).Trawling the web, I found a HP document stating that a client can belong to one NIS domain only. However, the yast NIS client interface allows adding NIS domains/servers to the seemingly default one. I'm totally confused.I made the following experiment:1. declaring nis-domain1 in /etc/defaultdomain and server1 in /etc/yp.conf: ypwhich returns server1, ypcat passwd lists the users on server1.2. in the yast interface, I added nis-domain2 and server2; in /etc/yp.conf, there is an extra line "domain nis-domain2 server server2". I have an obstacle to login remotely to my server. When I used DHCP internet connection, I simply worked with the ssh (scp) commands without any problem. Now, however, I need to use the VPN client to access to internet. After I log on by VPN, I can use the Firefox browser, but the ssh (scp) commands do not work at all from the command prompt. It looks that ssh does not go through the VPN client. I have tried putty.exe with wine, but that also does not work.

I'm looking for information on how to use a single FTP command from the terminal window, that would do this:
- Login (with usesrname/password)
- Set Transfer type to Binary
- Get all files in a directory and download somewhere.
- Delete all files in the directory that was just downloaded.
- Close Connection when complete.
There lots of information on individual commands, but I want to combine them into one single command that requires no human interaction. Just one big line Hopefully from this one command line I'll be able to create more for other purposes (like login and delete one file then close).

We would like to use Kiwi LTSP to boot some old PCs straight in to a Windows terminal session. We have this working with RDesktop, but we would like to load balance the connections to our Citrix servers, which I don't believe you can do with RDesktop as it points to a single Windows server.
Is there a way to get LTSP to connect to published ICA applications on boot in a similar way to specifying screen07=rdesktop in lts.conf?
