I can connect using KNetworkManager, get an IP and nameservers, but.

And to top it all off, I cannot figure out what the default gateway should be from verizon to just write a script out myself that'll do it automatically.
I have tried every post on this site and Verizon's dealing with the UML290 Mobile Broadband USB Modem to get it configured with linux and have yet to have any luck in over a week of trying to get it to connect.

I have tried setting up the UML290 using NetworkManager (Broadband Connection), also tried YaST > modems along with Qinternet to connect with no luck. Have tried using mynumber@vzw3g.com and also mynumber@vzw4g.com and neither have worked. Used #777 as "Number" and used "vzw" and "VZW" as passwords, still nothing.

I have a windows machine (in a domain) and I have created 2 Virtual Machines with Suse 11.2 installed on them.Now, I want to share a folder in windows to both Suse images. I am succesfully able to do that.I used: mount -t cifs -o user..... command to mount it at /mnt/win on my linux and succesfully able to work with it.
Now, I want a user in my Linux box (both Linux images)to be able to write to the shared folder in windows (actually both linux images will write to the shared folder but it is based on acquairing locks and releasing them to be able to use the shared folder on windows).
I tried etc fstab and lot other options but my efforts were in vain.Simply put - I need a user in my linux box (suse 11.2) to be able to write to a windows shared folder.
last night i have install SUSE 11.2 from the live CD. I have dual boot system with windows.Here is the problems.....i m able to access internet using same connection in windows but unable in suse.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell M6400, using Wubi for Windows 7 x64. My ISP sets my router password at source, meaning I'm unable to disable wireless encryption (which is WPA 2 Personal). That being said, I don't seem to be able to detect *any* wireless networks (I can still connect via ethernet, which does not require the password).
I'm not certain where the problem is, so I'll outline my steps and what the results were:
Under "System > Administration > Hardware Drivers" I have the "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver" installed (for BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322- based hardware)
The driver is activated and currently in use. When I type
"nm-tool", I get NetworkManager disconnected

I'm trying to setup a virtual machine running Ubuntu server 9.10 in Hyper-V on a windows 2008 server.
However it can't detect the network adapter (Virtual NIC uses Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet).
After doing some research on a Windows forum i was told to try using the legacy network interface. Annoyingly 64bit edition doesn't seem to have this.
Anyone know how i can get around this?
I am having trouble getting a Verizon UMW190 configured in Network Manager under 10.04 Lucid as a 'New Mobile Broadband Connection'. As the UMW190 is a 'World' capable mobile Broadband adapter is has both CDMA and GSM capability. I only need CDMA for now. However, when network manager detects the VZ UMW190, it does not offer Verizon as a choice in the Provider list. I searched and found references in this forum for using the UMW190 under 9.10 with gnome-ppp via this link:[URL]and tried it without any luck.I have previously used a VZ UM175 on this machine under 10.04 without any issues as Verizon appeared in the Provider list and the configuration worked without a problem.

We have several new DELL STUDIO-XPS machines pre-packaged with Win7 onto which we intend to load 10.3 the 2.6.22.5-31-default kernel as a dual boot.
The first test machine however is showing reluctance to reveal its NIC under SuSE. The card in question is a Broadcom Netlink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet with driver version 12.4.0.3 under Windows.
The error message I recieve under SuSE is "Unable to configure network card because kernel device is not present".
ifconfig confirms this showing only the loopback device.
The tg3.ko driver seems to be OK (although I am not sure how to interogate this file for its vesion?). It is listed under /sbin/lsmod and I have attempted a rmmod followed by an insmod but thsi seems to have no effect.
Talk on the net suggests Windows will not 'let go' of the card on a dual boot machine but this seems unlikely and I have attempted the various power down options without success.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L550 laptop with Suse 11.3 dual booting with Windows 7. Windows can detect the built in wireless card but not Suse, what can I do to get the wireless recognized in Suse.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed suse on this computer, and am wanting to allow other computers to store files on it as a file server. I was reading the online manual and in the personal file preferences, it shows an option to enable 'share public files over network'. The problem is I don't see that option when I open up file preferences. All I see is an option to allow sharing using bluetooth, nothing about sharing over the network. When I look in the network I can see the computer running suse, but when I try to connect to it, it says 'unable to mount drive: connection refused by server.'
View 3 Replies View RelatedNew SUSE 11.3 install connects to network/internet etc OK with DHCP-assigned IP address. When I switch to static IP, I can no longer ping internal network, or anything else. This works OK with SUSE 11.2 on same hardware and (as far as I can see) same setup. Some diagnostics are shown below.
Firewall
Disabling the firewall makes no difference.
Not using a network manager (can't see how to assign fixed address if I do - all greyed out).

I am attempting to setup a linux file server in active directory. It has been kind of an ongoing project(nightmare) for me... I have tried a few distributions of linux and I have to say I really enjoy openSUSE. YaST is my best friend. Now to the problem at hand.
I have samba installed and configured for the domain. I was able to successfully join the machine to the domain. I can even log on using domain user names and passwords (more than I was able to accomplish with other distros...). Where I am having a problem currently is I cannot see the suse machine from a windows machine. I can access shares from suse to windows though.
I installed the OpenSUSE 11 on my IBM T43 laptop. After installation finish I found the Yast can't detect the integrated ethernet cardBroadcomCorporationNetXtremeBCM5751MGigabitEthernet PCI Express(rev 11).
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning 11.3 on an Acer aspire 2920 laptop. OS is up and running as are other applications. I have been trying to install a .wmv player (for CBT), (kaffeine, MPlayer, VLC) and also crossover for linux. In all cases I get "Installation of package xxxxx rpm failed".
The system downloads without problem but the issue appears to be on the actual installation side.
I've had this issue since OpenSUSE 10.5 and Firefox 2.x. Now I'm on OpenSUSE 11.2 and Firefox 3.5.6. Here's the issue: I log into various sites to get my bank statements, utility bills, etc. They are all in PDF, and they open up acrobat reader and from there I save the bill as a permanent record. The first one I open opens fine. Subsequent sessions with subsequent providers (banks, whatever) opens up a new window as if to show me the PDF, but no PDF is there. Status on the window shows "done." No error messages. I have to shut firefox down, restart, log in again, and then it downloads fine. It's getting annoying.

Similarly, I need to use the application server also. The two database server are having the same ip.(192.168.1.10) and two application server are having the same ip(192.168.1.11). But they give the another ip for all machines like below.

This issue was prompted by Groupwise MTA not communicating with a Post Office that I had migrated to our first Linux box. I found out why, because I cannot communicate with it at all, other than through ethernet. I'm not sure what the problem is. I found several tutorials on the web for using netatalk over ssh, but all these tutorials are for Ubuntu and require the debian package. Has anybody compiled netatalk over ssh under SuSE? I cannot verify if the netatalk package installed by the SuSE installer has been compiled with this option. Alternatively could somebody point me to any documentation to help me compile netatalk? I tried reading the netatalk manual from sourceforge, but that asks for installation of a Berkley DB that is not required under Ubuntu.

eth1 is connected to a cable modem and uses dhcp. After migrating to suse-11.2 ip-forwarding (once the system is up and running) is sometimes deactivated and i have no clue why. /etc/syslog.conf has an entry net.ipv4.ip_forwarding = 1
i have modified the SuSE-scripts /sbin/SuSEfirewall /sbin/ifup-dhcp /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_setup to make sure each time my firewall-rules are loaded ip-forwarding is explicitly enabled. This worked perfectly with suse-11.0. Now ip-forwarding is enabled after a system reboot or after one of the above scripts is called, but somewhere somehow ip-forwarding is always deactivated and i have no idea how this happens. This may happen after 5 minutes or after 5 hours. As a workaround i created a cronjob running every 5 minutes issuing a sysctl-command to enable ip-forwarding.
i using before ubuntu and in them it was simple just in the terminal sudo ppoeconfig but i dont know to config it in suse 11.2.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of biggest reason I need to use windows is because my company uses Juniper SSL VPN to remote desktop into our company's computer. Our company doesn't allow any native linux/windows app client, only the web SSL VPN is enabled.
Looks like this Juniper SSL VPN only works on windows computers. It makes the windows remote desktop client connect over the SSL web VPN from browser. Of course, linux/SUSE doesn't have the windows desktop client. Is there any way to get RDP work through the given SSL VPN? Otherwise, I guess I need go back install windows and starting using it again.

What about features though? What does openSUSE/Linux have instead of AD for file/folder sharing across the network? Are there roaming profiles? If so, how do I use that?I love openSUSE because of yast (and a few other things). And It's my main LinuxOS on my tower. I am still in college getting my certs and a degree (in networking). I really want to understand why Linux (openSUSE/ SUSE enterprise) is a better networking solution as opposed to Windows Sever 2003/2008.Also, why SUSE over RHEL/CentOS? I've setup vnc over ssh tunnelling however the Suse firewall seems to be blocking it. On the local host I have this in ~/.ssh/config:LocalForward localhost:5900 remotehost.com:5900 The problem is that this only works when I either disable the firewall or add an exception for VNC. Both of these actions defeat the whole purpose of ssh tunnelling since they leave my VNC port open to the outside world (very insecure).
