Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Detect Network Adapter In Hyper-V / Get Around This?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm trying to setup a virtual machine running Ubuntu server 9.10 in Hyper-V on a windows 2008 server.

However it can't detect the network adapter (Virtual NIC uses Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet).

After doing some research on a Windows forum i was told to try using the legacy network interface. Annoyingly 64bit edition doesn't seem to have this.

Anyone know how i can get around this?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Detect Network On AWU212N Wireless Adapter / Fix It?

Jul 9, 2010

I just got a new AZiO AWU212N 802.11n wireless usb adapter (linked below). One of the product reviews said that it works with Ubuntu if you upgrade to the .34 kernel so I thought it would be a good buy. I updated my kernel and Ubuntu detects that there is a wireless adapter, but doesn't detect any networks. My old wireless-g adapter can connect just fine, so I don't know what the problem is.

Debian Installation :: Install Lenny Via Hyper-V - Can Not Find My Network Card

Sep 15, 2010

I am trying to install Debian Lenny via Hyper-V. I get to the point where it asks for the network card. For some reason it can not find my network card. I have a RealTek (RTL8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 built on motherboard).

For some reason it doesn't see it. My issue is if I continue without the network how am I getting the drivers? Unfortunately Hyper-V doesn't support USB. I guess I can try to burn to CD but not looking to waste a cd for 480k and not sure that will work as I only see a auto.sh and a couple other files under scr directory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is a fairly new Motherboard/NIC so I do not understand why it isn't recognized. I know it cant have everything but Realtek is a fairly common nic.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Detect The Wireless Network

Apr 6, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell M6400, using Wubi for Windows 7 x64. My ISP sets my router password at source, meaning I'm unable to disable wireless encryption (which is WPA 2 Personal). That being said, I don't seem to be able to detect *any* wireless networks (I can still connect via ethernet, which does not require the password).

I'm not certain where the problem is, so I'll outline my steps and what the results were:
Under "System > Administration > Hardware Drivers" I have the "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver" installed (for BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322- based hardware)
The driver is activated and currently in use. When I type

"nm-tool", I get NetworkManager disconnected

Networking :: Unable To Set Gateway When Second Network Adapter Fitted

Feb 12, 2010

When a second network adapter is fitted, the boot script fails to configure the default gateway. Here's from /var/log/messages with DEBUG_ETH_UP="yes" configured for the boot script Code: Feb 13 10:22:23 ps1 logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: /sbin/route add default gw 191.168.1.1 metric 1 Feb 13 10:22:23 ps1 logger: SIOCADDRT: No such process

After boot the same command failed with the same message when done by root logged in via ssh but succeeded when run from the console After removing the second network adapter, the boot script is able to configure the gateway.

EDIT: or not. The problem now seems intermittent Now with only the onboard network adapter the same "SIOCADDRT: No such process" error is logged during boot and the "/sbin/route add default gw 191.168.1.1" command fails at the console too. Am experimenting with disabling the onboard adapter and fitting the NIC.

EDIT 2: definitely intermittent. Just rebooted with no hardware changes; same error during boot and route -n showed no default gateway but "/sbin/route add default gw 191.168.1.1" worked.

Hardware :: Unable To Use Hyper Sensitive CD Tray

Mar 20, 2011

I have a SONY 52x DVD Writer in my Desktop. Initially it was okay.. For the past 2 months or so , the DVD tray is super sensitive.. When I press the "Eject" Button , it comes out and immediately the next second goes back in..Also I face great difficulty in loading a CD/DVD .The moment the DVD touches the tray , it sucks the tray back in.

As a result , I am not able to position the DVD, most of the time it gets stuck ..I cannot manually stop the tray from going in as I guess the spring for the tray will break.Should I replace the drive? Apart from this mechanical issue , the drive reads and writes properly.. I like Drives which have separate open and close buttons (not the ones which you push from the front)

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Detect Hard Drive

Aug 3, 2010

my last hard drive had bad sectors so we got a new hard drive from newegg. this is a brand. new. hard drive. never been formatted before. so i started with the windows setup disc to get it to partition the drive and give kubuntu (working off 10.04 its ordered from canonical) something to work off. it still didn't work. so i got gparted on here to see if it could - im running off the live cd - do anything with it and i find that kubuntu doesn't even recognize there is a hard drive there. i got into the terminal to check the sudo lshw -C disk thing and it swears 'C' is my cd drive.

My bios is also as high as it can go, they stopped making my board. so. any ideas? i cannot install windows as i have lost the key so getting this installed and fixed has to be done through ubuntu on a live cd.

Ubuntu Installation :: Using Wireless USB Network Adapter?

Oct 20, 2010

I just started using Ubuntu 10.10 recently. and Im not really sure how most of this stuff works. I could probably figure most of it out myself, but I have a question about using a wireless USB stick for internet.I do not have internet on my desktop (the computer with linux on it) and the only way i can get it is by using a Dynex Wireless G USB Network Adapter.

I do not have the disk for it. and Im guessing linux doesnt have the autoinstall thing that windows has (no offense to linux, im starting to love it more than windows). I have the driver for it on my windows computer. I was wondering if i could run the driver from a usb thumb drive. If not, then how can i get the network adapter to work?

General :: Debian 5.0.8 Won't Detect Ethernet Adapter

Jan 31, 2011

I'm installing Debian 5.0.8 on a Dell Latitude E6410 using the network install x86 CD.

Unfortunately, it won't detect my Ethernet adapter. Specifically, I get the error: No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list.

lspci shows: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10ea (rev 05)

That should correspond to the e1000e driver. But, if I select it from the list, the install CD still fails to detect it.

Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 are able to use this device with no problem.

Does anybody know what I can do to make Debian use/recognize my ethernet adapter?

Edit: Additional Info:

I think this is an Intel 82577LM Gigabit Ethernet chipset. If I switch from the graphical installer to the console and run lsmod, I see e1000e with a use count of 0.

Fedora Installation :: Wireless Network Configuration - B43 Adapter Grayed Out

May 9, 2009

I am doing network config of my laptop. I'm new to Fedora, so I'm not sure how it goes ...
I have an Ethernet device (eth0) and a wireless device, wlan0
Status in system->administration->network:
Tab devices:
eth0 : active
wlan0: inactive
Tab Hardware:
eth0: system
wlan0: configured (description: b43)

Double clicking on the wlan0 line gets you to Network Adapters Configuration, where adapter b43 grayed out) is associated with device wlan0. So far, so good (I did all the fwcutter stuff, so I assume this is the result). When I installed the system (from installcd, then update, then install broadcom-wl, ...) I configured it to be started up with network manager, automatically on startup. I managed to get it working exactly once in that session.

Problem is, it doesn't start up and the wireless is not even visible when you click the network manager icon. For that matter, eth0 does not start automatically either, but at least there is a button to start it in network manager. Coming back to the tab devices, clicking on wlan0 allows you to click on the activate button ... but there it says: Cannot activate network device wlan0! b43 device wlan0 does not seem to be present.

Ubuntu Installation :: In Windows 7 (64 Bits) File System Installer - Cannot Detect Wireless Network

Ubuntu in Windows 7 (64 bits) File system installed using Wubi I got Ubuntu 10.04 LTS intalled using Wubi. That means Ubuntu resides inside Windows file / folder system. It also means Ubuntu does not have its own partition. Here is what I found out:

1) It cannot detect wireless network unlike Win 7 on this same laptop. However, when I plug in ethernet cable, it was able to detect it. Is there a fix this problem?

2) I cannot see Windows folders. How do access windows folder from Ubuntu side and vice versa?

3) I forgot to set the disk space for Ubuntu during install and I think the default is 17 GB.Would this cause me problems? If so, what do I need to do? How do I expand the disk space for Ubuntu?

Fedora Installation :: Installing Hyper-V Integration Services For F15

Aug 25, 2011

I installed Fedora 15 on Hyper-V (Windows host). I installed to disk, rebooted. Now I'm off to installing the Integration services, but I've got a few problems:
1) Since it is not yet installed, it looks like the network is not functional.
2) From what I can see, I need to have a couple of things installed beforehand (GCC amoung other things)

The problem is that when I did this previously with Virtualbox, I was able to install the pre-requisites with yum. Now this won't work as I have no network. I can't use VirtualBox here at work as we have everything else running under Hyper-V so have no choice but to go this way (VB and HV can't live together on the same host). it's just so much harder to go through this installation with Hyper-V.

Debian :: WICD Network Manager Does Not Detect Any Network / Resolve This?

Jan 16, 2011

I have installed WICD on Debian . I can now access a new a Network Manager screen, which did not exist before, but it does not display/detect any wireless networks. It is like dead. Before installing WICD I did at least have a wireless WPE encrypted network, which was detected, although it often disconnected for no known reasons. Now even that Network has gone and I can't go on line. Can anybody help here? How can I configure the WICDNetwork Manager to detect an existing network or create a new one? In the latter case, would I have to reconfigure the Router settings to setup/connect to a network in Debian? May be I have to do this, because Tor/Vidalia changes my IP address and so my Network Adapter ( Linksys) can no longer connect to the router.
Also, when trying to follow troubleshooting leads in this connection, the Terminal screen on Debian ( CMD) would often return a PERMISSIONS DENIED message.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Detect WMID Device

Apr 22, 2011

So I bought an eMachine e250 from a friend of mine, and installed Backtrack on it. That worked fine, until I realised that I didn't like KDE, and decided to get the gnome-based Gnacktrack (based on Ubuntu 10.10, so I'm fairly sure they work the same). I also have a harddrive from an old laptop that I've scrapped with Ubuntu 10.4 that I run in the laptop, and fpr some bizzare reason, neither operating system is able to detect the wireless card. It worked fine with Backtrack (based on Noppix I believe), and I'm curious as to why the wireless card hates Ubuntu so much. I know that it's unable to detect the wireless card because on start-up it says "Unable to detect WMID device". I even added the wireless card from my scrapped laptop to the laptop, and that NIC was detected just fine. (though I can't use it because the antenna won't reach the slot for the secondary NIC)
