OpenSUSE Network :: Drivers For Atheros Communications Inc - AR2413 802.11bg?

I'm trying to get WiFi up and running on an older desktop PC. lspci gives me the following information about the WiFi card: 00:0d.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01) Is there an RPM package for the driver that I need? If no, what should I do to install the driver manually? The PC in question doesn't have any other form of direct internet access. It does have an Ethernet port, but the WiFi router is too far away to hook it up to the access point directly.

I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I'm in the process of switching back to Fedora after years of hiatus, but I can't get my wireless card working. The card itself is an Atheros AR2413, and the problem is that it seems to appear OK in various places, BUT it doesn't detect any networks. I'm on Fedora 14.

After upgrading to 11.04 about six weeks ago I've had no sufficient solution to my inability to connect to wireless. Here is a summary of the problem:
After the upgrade, nm is running, and lspci detects my wireless controller (Atheros AR2413 802.11b/g), but nm can only sporadically detect/connect to wireless networks. Essentially what happens is that upon startup, I have to wait (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes hours) for the computer to "decide" that it wants to detect the networks, at which point I can connect. After this it is fine; it doesn't disconnect after this point, but more often than not it takes so long to start working that I might as well not use the computer.
I've tried "Connect to Hidden Wireless Network", to no avail. I should mention that I also run under the Gnome Classic UI, because Unity is one of the worst UI changes I've ever seen in a version. I've read that Unity causes some problems with NM, but I have no corroborating evidence of this, and the problem persists even without using the Unity UI.
Someone recommended using an older kernel, but the file "menu.lst" doesn't even exist in the /boot/grub folder, so I have no idea how I would do that.

having used SuSE Linux ever since the April 1995 release, I thought installing 11.4 would be a straightforward task. Since it wasn't, I'm summarising here my experience. My PC is built around a 3-year old Asus P5B-plus mainboard, i.e. certainly not brand-new hardware.
1 - on installation, my "Atheros Communications L1 Gigabit Ethernet (rev b0)" wasn't recognized, so I had to "modprobe atl1" from one of the consoles available during installation. That worked but the installer didn't pick up the fact that network was now available.
2 - after completion of the installation, online-updating for the first time and installing the nvidia driver for my "nVidia Corporation G71 [GeForce 7300 GS] (rev a1)" the KDE desktop showed the "blank desktop with mouse pointer" syndrome. Googling yielded that desktop effects had to be disabled in the kwinrc configuration file.
3 - logging in today after an online update, firefox (MozillaFirefox-4.0.1-0.2.2.x86_64) segfaults on start-up while loading the default website (opensuse.org). firefox will run in safemode but it won't run in normal mode, even with all add-ons disabled.
Now I don't have a useable system after a couple of hours of trying. Fortunately, I have a working installation of openSUSE 11.2 but I believe that updates for that distribution will be stopped shortly.

I'm using LiveCD to test my laptop with FC 14. It booted from the LiveCD image last night, but my wireless didn't work. I need the madwifi wireless drivers for my built in Atheros adapter.
Can I download the latest and greatest madwifi drivers, compile them and use them while running from the LiveCD image?

I just installed Centos 5.4 on the 2nd partion of my hard drive. I have an ethernet card in my machine (a 3Com Corporation 3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang] card), but I need to be able to use my wireless USB device I bought from my local phone company (Qwest)...because I will not always have the luxury of plugging in to a hard-wired connection. The USB wireless device works fine in Windows, but I need to be able to use it on my newly installed Centos 5.4 partition.

i'm trying to add windows print drivers to smb for them to be automatically downloaded to the client upon printer installation. I've followed the samba.org Printing documents which have been helpful to some degree. I have an HP printer and i'd like to just upload and register the .inf,.dll.cab files that the manufacture cd comes with for the client to use the .inf file to install the drivers from that location but i keep getting Werr_invalid_PARAM

I have installed CentOS 5.3 on my PC which has an Atheros AR8121/8113/8114 Gigabit Ethernet. Unfortunately 5.3 has no drivers for this LAN Card. I searched the Google for drivers but was unable to find any. Does the 5.4 has them? If yes then how can i upgrade it to 5.4 without Network connectivity?

I'm trying to install the drivers for my Wlan card, I've downloaded the drivers in the tar.gz-file from Broadcom and untar-ed it in my /home/<username>/hybrid_wl-folder and cd'ed to it and I try to run "make" but I get an error: KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/'uname -r' /build M='pwd' make: *** /lib/modules*2.6.31.5-0.1-default/build: No such file or directory. I found a linux driver on the internet, but it asked me to run make in the console and when I did so it said that it couldn't find make.

A fresh Xubuntu 10.10 install will give me access to my network, but with fluctuating speeds, and certain pages load forever. I have tried the blacklist edit as well as ndiswrapper, and neither have helped me. I can't find a madwifi guide for this issue either. Details: Upon fresh install of xubuntu 10.10, wireless is detected. I enter my, key, hit google, and all is good. Then I try to log into my online classes. Firefox hung forever. So I tried a few other sites, and to my disappointment, random sites seemed to fail. Brand-new, fresh, clean Xubuntu 10.10 install, Toshiba Satellite M45-165.

Does anyone have a kernel that supports Atheros network cards? I am using ASUS EEE PC netbooks and none of the kernels I have access to have drivers installed for the NICs. I am having issues when I try to build my own kernel and maybe someone has a precompiled one? Either that or if someone has a basic, step-by-step guide to building your own custom kernel. This is my first time building a kernel and I am kind of lost. This isn't actually for running Ubuntu I will be using it in an imaging program called FOG. I just need a kernel that will support these NICs so I am able to do some imaging.

I have setup a dual boot machine which has OS of Windows Vista (32 Bit) / RHEL 5. The LAN Card details are - Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base T - Controller. The said Network Card works fine with the ADSL Connection in Windows OS, but does not seem to initialise in Linux. When I run "ifconfig" in terminal window it gives away the prompt - "eth0 no such device exists".Although it shoes the loopback adapter (lo) device working fine. I forgot to mention over here, I have just started with Linux. So, I request "the" Linux Gurus to help me out with this one.

I installed 9.10 Karmic 32 bit on a laptop here that has an Atheros 2413 card in it. I could see the network and tried to connect. After 30 seconds of attempting to connect, it simply says disconnected.
Thinking network manager was to blame, I installed WICD and rebooted. I tried to connect to my network, but it came back with unable to get IP address. Okay, fine. So I check my iBook and Ubuntu work laptop both are connected fine. I tried other drivers within the WICD preferences wext, ndiswrapper, madwifi nothing worked. I power cycled the router thinking something might have been borked with my wireless but it's fine.

I have a Toshiba MX35 laptop it's a little old but does the job. I'm have a problem getting the wireless to work. I can boot a live CD either Ubuntu 10.10 or Fedora 14 and they will see the wireless card. The card is Atheros Communications Inc. Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01).
I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and that is the OS that is having the problem seeing the wireless. The computer will not handle Ubuntu 10.10 (at least it won't handle the desktop effects under Ubuntu 10.10) but handles them just fine under 9.10 and that's why I have 9.10 installed. I really need the Wifi to work because I'm going to travel in a few days.

I recently switched from Windows XP to a clean install Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 but it seems to be quite a problem to get the wifi up and running. In Windows the nearby network all appeared in network connections but the same section in Ubuntu is empty. So I decided to go with the ndiswrapper guide to solve the problem with an unclaimed driver. After an entire day messing with my computer I'm still not close... Below follows excerpts taken from the Ndiswrapper guide with posted results from my computer. "ndiswrapper won't work until it thinks that your Windows drivers have been properly installed and that they are the appropriate ones for your wireless card. You can run the command: ndiswrapper -l"

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 desktop in a VirtualBox VM on a Windows 2008 host machine. The end goal is join the the Ubuntu VM to a Windows 2008 domain. I've downloaded likewilikewise-open_5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.2_i386.deb se-open_5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1.2_i386.deb to get the joining of the VM to the domain. But from this point forward, I'm completely lost.
1) How do I implement this likewise package?
2) How do I get files from my Windows 2008 host to the Ubuntu guest VM?
The likewise file is burned to a DVD. When I try to read the DVD, I get the "My Disk" icon but only one file gets displayed. In other words, the DVD the likewise file is burned to has a ton of files. Ubuntu doesn't see any of them expect one .exe file. The /etc/fstab had no entry for cdrom, so I put a line in that says
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0 rebooted and that didn't do squat. There is no entry /etc/cdrom but there is directory /etc/My Disc. And I suppose that's what gets mounted because I can see one file on that disc. So then I thought, to hell with the DVD drive and I'll just get the Linux guest to see a "shared drive" on the host. I shared out a folder on the host via the Virtualbox "shared folders". But how I get the Ubuntu guest to see this shared folder is as big a mystery to me as is the creation of life.

I have two linux boxes A and B. Each of them have serial ports (ttyS0 on both) and these ports are connected using null modem serial cable. "A" box is always on and it has getty process on its ttyS0 (I need this getty for serial communication). If I reboot box B, it doesn't boot default entry - just displays grub os select table. After some investigation I realized that getty process on A sends some data to grub on B while it's booting and grub behaves the same way as if some key is pressed during timeout period - it doesn't boot default and waits for interactive user response. I need to reboot B remotely so its no good for me.

I have an application written in C (by somebody else) monitoring a device connected to a serial port. I'm using an old laptop w. tinycore linux for an os. The app works well enough, and the communication speed is relatively slow, 9600bps, unidirectional, comes in packets of 18 bytes. The app is just picking apart the packets and displaying the contents on a formatted screen (ncurses), updating about once every 1/2 second. The trouble is, the app is polling the serial port and using *all* of the cpu bandwidth. The cpu fan runs full bore all the time.
Other activities are sluggish when the monitoring program is running. I'd like to modify the app to be a little more intelligent, use a receive buffer and interrupts to trigger processing each packet and, most importantly, not poll in a tight loop waiting for data. I'm not sure where to start, but I'm convinced this isn't that complicated of a change. Is there a good resource that would explain the basics of reading data from serial port software buffers, triggering on interrupts and suspending or sleeping when no interrupt is pending?
