On pressing "N" to create New Kmail message, the composer opens on a Different Desktop i.e. Incoming Mail is on Desktop 2, but New Message is on Desktop 1. HOW can I adjust Kmail to create New Mail on SAME Desktop 2?

I've imported my contacts in adressbook and I can see them in Kontact - Adresses. But when I compose a new mail, I can't select any of my contacts. There is a combobox to select between following choices:
All
Default Adress book
Distribution list
recent adresses
Selected adresses
But none of these options shows the contacts I have imported. And I can't find an option to make my imported adress book the default adress book.
Kmail is crashing on me when trying to create a new filter. Both ways it crashes:
1) Right click on message -> Create Filter -> Filter on From
2) Settings -> Configure Filters.
I'm running KDE 4.4.3-160.1.

I've imported a vcard addressbook in kontact. When I create a new mail and start typing something in the "to" input field, no contacts are automatically added. When I click the "select" button, nothing is found, except for the recently added email addresses. Nothing from my imported addressbook though.
This also didn't work in opensuse 11.3 KDE. Am I doing something wrong here?
After reinstalling with Kubuntu 10.04 my e-mail addresses stored in Kontact don't show up in the list of e-mail addresses when choosing addresses in a new e-mail. When I open my addressbook I can see all addresses.

When I try to send email it give me "Transport 'Gmail.com' is invalid". I have tried deleting the account and recreating it to no avail, and I even tried changing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.googlemail.com, with the exact same error.

The problem is, that I would like to use KMail, but I've got to import the settings, mailbox etc. I made a backup through Evolution, wich ended up as a .tar.gz. I tried to open it though the KMail backup program. But it just won't load the mails or lettings. It just doesn't work. I tried Evolution 1.x backup end Evolution 2.x backup. Both didn't work.

For example - if I am using kmail for the account me@email.net and I have something from an irc chat or IM I need to keep for future reference (instructions for something, contact info for someone, etc.) I open a new blank email in kmail, address it to myself, copy in the info and hit send, but the message never arrives. I have previously used this method with Thunderbird and Evolution and it works in both of them just fine but does not ever work in kmail.

Yesterday I received a mail from LQ informing me about a reply to a thread named "operating system linux".
I am not able to open, delete, edit that mail.
I have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to adjust Xinerama to place 1 desktop on each of my 2 monitors and not stretch a single over both. With the current set up there is a problem with window placement upon opening new widows or context dialog boxes. I realize that I could adjust placement properties and select window placement with the mouse but this is still lacking in productivity. My monitors are not next to on another so this is more of a problem than it seems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe last update for 10.04 has really screwed my desktop. Several of the icons are off the bottom of the screen. All icons are too large. Can't adjust the screen resolution. Panel at the bottom when placed in autohide is so sensitive that it is almost impossible to use. Jumps up and down like a flea on a hot stove. I have reduced the sensitivity of the mouse to the minimum with no effect. There is no excuse for so many troublesome updates. The problem with using an external monitor with a laptop has never been resolved by Ubuntu.

These appear to be undeleteable and I want an undeleteable Firefox icon on my desktop as well. At last, I am serious converting from openSUSE/KDE3.5 to openSUSE 11.2/KDE 4. Being a bit retarded in this, the following must have been solved by many.
After starting Kmail in KDE 4 I managed to see all my mails. I also managed to get my filters moved from old to new (had to go back to 3.5 to export them first).
But I still fail to see how to copy my accounts/identities, etc. It is not done automaticaly, there is no export function I could find. How to manage this?
EDIT: must be 3.5 in the title. Done by a nice mod.
On my OpenSuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5, when I launch kmail for the first time it does not start. I have to re-launch it to get it running. By launching it from the command line, I get the message:

I have setup different identities in Kmail to deal with multiple gmail accounts so I have a different set of inbox, sent mail and draft folder for each account.In the message layout, I have chosen to display the columns - subject,sender/receiver and date. For one of my email accounts, kmail does the job perfectly. The inbox foler shows subject, sender and date, whereas the sent-mail folder shows subject, receiver and date. However, this order is not maintained for my other email accounts. The inbox folders show subject, sender and date(which is correct); the sent-mail folder shows subject, sender and date - instead of subject, receiver and date which is what should be displayed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my recently installed openSUSE 11.4 system I am using Kwallet to store all of my private passwords and also those associated with my Kmail accounts. All of these passwords appear correctly in Kwallet, but it seems there is a problem with Kmail accessing them.Whenever I start a new session, Kmail loads first and is followed by Kwallet. When Kmail then tries to do its first mail retrieval it stops and asks for the account password. I type this in and then Kwallet requests its administrator password. Once I type this in, my mail is downloaded and I get no further request for the passwords during that session.
The same thing happens when I attempt to send my first email of the day. I get a Kmail request for the SMTP account password. I've tried changing the Kwallet settings so that it doesn't close when unused for a period,or when the screensaver kicks in, but this (predictably) has no effect. In the Access Control screen, both KDE Wallet Manager and Kontact are shown as 'Always Allow' and I can see no other settings in either Kwallet or Kmail which are relevant to the problem.My guess is that the problem occurs because Kmail starts up ahead of Kwallet and therefore doesn't load the passwords initially. But that may be a red herring as I'm not familiar with the way Kmail and Kwallet interact.
